Wilponzi’s Looking for 3rd Scam…

…only they’re calling it a “minority investor search”.

The hustle this time is they look for some idiot(s) to put lots of money in and never get any back in return.

(*footnote - shout to Irish Mike for the above sentiment)

Essentially that’s what they’re asking for isn’t it? A blind investment from a partner who shall remain silent.

The main differences between Madoff scam and the current Wilponzi scam is Bernie had a reputation for making money while Fred, Jeff and Saul have a reputation for losing money, poor management style and meddling in player decisions.

Unfortunately launching scam number 3 may be their best bet at retaining ownership of the Mets.

Man oh man, I can’t wait for the day the Wilpons are forced to sell.

I just want to watch baseball.

Hu’s on second?…Luis Hernandez?…What scrap heap did we pick this guy up from? He hasn’t even been in the mix till about 10 minutes ago!

I am just not feeling it from this team. There is something other the than usual lacking items (pitching, 2nd baseman, relief, etc.etc.) that this team does not have. There is a cloud over this team or lack of urgency. Maybe there is just no hope, you can feel it in the fan base down here.

Something just does not feel right about Spring Training 2011.

  3. Matt the Met Fan Says:

The Wilpon situation just plain sucks .. I agree with O62 fan .. I just want to watch baseball .. but it’s hard when you know in the back of your mind the ownership situation is just going to get worse before it gets better ..

    Cut Ollie and Castro !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just want to watch baseball also!…So I am heading to PSL tonight to see the Mets vs. Nats. Hopefully we can get off the snide and beat those Losers tonight.

I have watched every Mets / Nats game this spring and in the back of my mind I keep thinking that this is the only excitement we are going to have this year.

“Battle for the Basement”….Report on it tomorrow AM!

  6. USMF Says:

All I read was…blah blah blah, Wilpon…blah blah blah money….blah blah blah…they suck.

It’s all just noise…I’m starting to think that people from NY are the stupidest in the country because they still haven’t learned that all the “Newspapers”, “Tabloids”, Radio and TV “News” are nothing but biased and dramatized BULL SH!T. Next you’re gonna tell me that Fox News and MSNBC are great sources of facts.

Every day some A$$H0LE writes a bullsh!t story about something they know nothing about…but because they write it or broadcast it, you believe it.

You know why these people are in journalism and/or Radio and Television? Because they’re too stupid to succeed anyplace else in life. I started my post high school education in Radio/TV broadcast production…I gave it up because it was boring, too easy and I was smart enough to know that you’ll never make any money at it. I carried a +3.5GPA and I was drunk and/stoned all the time. I actually went to class on Acid and still did better than most. Sadly, the people too stupid to operate a camera or editing/production equipment became “talent”!

Why do you people keep going to them for news? It stopped being real news over twenty years ago! Now it’s celebrity gossip, recycled AP release’s and and editorials formatted to look like news. It’s all just fluff and flash designed for you to watch/read so they can sell advertising.

BMF, I’m especially disappointed in you… You work with these people…from what I’ve seen from the stuff you’ve posted, you seem to be about getting the real story out…but you should have enough experience with these a-holes that you should know most of them full of sh!t. Lately, it seems you’re just reading the headlines and forming your opinion from that. Adam, Sorry I have to call you out, ya know I love ya, but after the ‘08 collapse, it seems you’ve stopped putting %100 into baseball.

  7. The Coop Says:

    USMF, I hate to say I agree with you…but I do. I

  8. USMF Says:

Coop, I’m a big @$$H0le, nobody ever want’s to admit they agree with me…especially because I’m usually right… (it really pisses my wife)

  9. Met_Maven Says:

    USMF I agree 10000%
I don’t know where people get their information from or why they think celeb gossip is more important than whats going on in the world or this country.

  10. JJ Says:

USMF - I agree with what you say as well especially about being drunk and stoned all the time in college…no wonder we both ended up at The Barrel…however…I really don’t need the newspapers or TV to tell that the Mets will probably suck. A totally questionable starting rotation…Ollie as the lefty set up guy…no second baseman…nothing much to speak of at catcher…Beltran’s knees…Santana out…even I can figure out this equals a pretty crappy team

  11. BlondiesJake Says:

Do I resent or resemble USMF’s remarks?

  12. duke hodges Says:

    From yesterday’s post:

“Why would you cut ties with a homegrown, fan favorite like Jose? To avoid awarding another big money contract.”

Or, because he’s a f**king dog associated with nothing but choking and losing?

  13. duke hodges Says:

“I just want to watch baseball.”

Then you’re following the wrong team.

  14. IrishMike Says:

Wow a busy day on the road and I only now see that I got a shout out.

USMF - I don’t disagree with much of your rant but how does it relate to today’s post? Are you saying that the Wilpons are not searching for a minority investor? That the numerous reports of such in the media are all false?

  15. Met_Maven Says:

I don’t think they’re trying to scam anyone. They need money for the team. They don’t want to give up full control. The best way to do that is to sell a minority investment in the team. MINORITY. Not controlling interest, not a “buy and give us your take on how we should run the team” purchase. A “silent partner”. The Wilpons did not try to hide this from anyone. If anything this is the most honest they have been about anything they’ve done recently. Maybe BMF didn’t get that from the press releases saying the Wilpons were looking to sell a minority interest without giving up any say in its day-to-day operations. I’m not standing up for the Wilpons, just stating FACTS, something that never happens in sports talk. That being said, should they find a potential buyer, may buyer beware there will most likely be financial losses until the mess is fixed at which time the money will start flowing back into the team again.

ARGH! I can’t wait till the actual season starts and we start talking about actual baseball instead of this all this Madoff BS.
