BMF Rooting Against Mets?
Sorry folks the sad truth is I don’t even want to see this team win right now. BMF figures the mo’ losses the mo’ quicker they fire Willie’s ass and we can stem the bleeding.
It’s a terrible thing to realize as a fan – that you want your own team to lose. And some might say that disqualifies you as a real fan but BMF isn’t buying that. Getting swept in COL and coming home with a new manager will be the best thing for my favorite team in the long run.
Were it not for the deathwatch pall cast over fri nite’s extra inning 6-5 loss it would’ve been fun game to watch. Instead it was miserable and depressing.
Marlon Anderson got hurt
Reyes made mental errors
Even Billy Wags blew a save
But the very best part was thinking about when and how often SNY would cut to the manager. Now that’s a really fun way to watch a game ain’t it!

BMF will be keepin’ the posts short and sweet this weekend…
Quick Hits:
• Odd mid-game dugout moment when Raul Casanova walked up to Ollie Perez and stuck a jock strap cup in his face. It was a potentially funny move but Perez was stressed after he’d just escaped a 3 walk 5th inning. Ollie didn’t really react aside from moving his head in disgust but I wonder what Perez thought of that prank.
• Good job by Willie to visit Wags when he was rattled in the 9th with men on 1st and 3rd. After skipping a 58 ft slider in the dirt Wags needed to be refocused and Willie did just that. (but i still think he should get fired)
&bull The next pitch resulted in a hot grounder to a pulled in Reyes. Although for some bizarre reason Jose wasn’t ready for the play. Replays showed when the ball was struck Reyes was leaning towards second maybe still figuring out coverage on a steal attempt. He recovered in time to field it but froze and threw to first instead of turning what should have been an easy two.
• Reyes momentarily atoned for his mental error with a hustle double to lead off the 10th but then proceeded to get picked off 2nd. DOH!
• Great to see Endy (aka the BLBB) getting more PT
• Gary Carter just let us know he’s obviously NOT being considered for the Met job. And after reading Carter’s overeager quote I think I know why ; )

Mojo Kitty rocks the batting helmet for luck!

Welcome to my world, BMF! We’re the best kind of fans - don’t apoligize for feeling this way.
Let’s go ROX.
Let’s go ROX.
Let’s go ROX.
Gary Carter is way too Mayberry. He was one of my favorite Mets and one of the best players I’ve ever seen on a diamond. He was so good that he spoiled us. Just like Keith. Look at that picture of Keith crouched down next to the Mexism field. Gary - I love you too much to see you get a raw deal. For this bucnh of lazy, complacent, OVER RATED bunch of f–king losers, we need a mean, rotten bastard.

AND it just goes to show you that the Mets are WAY too old. WHo gets hurt running to first base? You’re either out of shape or too old to be out there. Running to first? What’s next, the steps to the dugout are too much for you? pathetic. I like Marlon, but if you can’t keep your body in good enough condition to run to first, I don;t know what. Unless you’re just too old. It happened to endy and I blame the trainers or not working out with a bench player - you can’t take it easy just becasue you don;t play everyday - you’ve got to work out. Maybe Richard Simmons should manage the Mets.
One thingis for sure, you’ll never see Beltran get hurt running to 1st on a grounder. That lazy trot he does. The back of his uniform #15 in that upright lazy man’s jog is my second best memoory of his after going down looking.
Yep. Richard Simmons for skipper - he’s perfect for these guys.

Remember when the Yankees fired their weight trainer becuase all of them were out of shape. Why are there so many hammy injuries on this team? is it age or lousy training?
May 24th, 2008 at 8:52 am
No Phil-Lips, you’re wrong. Rooting against your own guys is treason. You can try to help to change the stigma by writing, calling these stupid radio shows ad whining on the air but rooting against them is plain Un-American. More than half the country doesn’t agree with the war in Iraq, does that mean they want the US soldiers over there to die and fail! No, they want them back save and sound.
BMF, we have one idiot here(who proves time and time again), don’t add to the dysfunction. Things need to change, yes, but not at the cost you guys are stating. It actually sounds like some 3rd grade s**t. “If they won’t fire him then I’m not watching, so there!”

The Mets need a new manager before their next home game. Whatever it takes for that to happen, I’m cool with. Omar delivered his and the ownership’s support in Colorado which means Willie’s got this series to get it straight. If the Mets have two more games like last night, there will be boxes by his office door when he gets back.
As for who’s next, I hope it’s Backman. I love Carter, but he’s too nice for this club right now. I love Mex, but the Mets are being out hustled, not out-thunk. Wally’s a dirtbag who doesn’t give a sh*t if anyone on the team likes him or not and he’s already dealt with enough bullsh*t in his career to not be rattled by the bullsh*t that flows into the clubhouse after the game and out of the radio on his drive home.
Of course, there are a million other candidates from outside of the Mets’ history books, but I’d rather see someone familar replace Willie if for no other reason than so that I can get excited when I hear the news rather than have to look up another name when I get home.

willies ajoke!!! watching him urgue with umps is like your wife getting pinched on her ass in a bar ,you walk up to the culprit and say” i dont agree with what you just did” did you see wright smack emanuel on the ass when he got tossed, that spoke volums to me, willie your a nice coach, not a manager
May 24th, 2008 at 9:45 am
I do agree with the notion that Willie’s a good coach, just not a manager. I don’t agree with Carter is too nice. I believe people consider him an a-hole.
May 24th, 2008 at 9:53 am
Willie’s not a good coach either. Yankee fans hated him when he coached 3rd.
They called him Windmill Willie and Wave Em Home Willie.
May 24th, 2008 at 10:23 am
BMF, i was at the “spiteful anti-fan” point during the nationals series. i’m past that now. i want willie fired and all but i don’t think this team will win without him either.

That’s where I am. Beltran is hitting over .300 for the month of May, Reyes is hitting over the past 2 weeks and yet they still find a way to lose. A new manager can’t fix Opie’s 8 walks, Heilman’s necessity to see the ball go out of the park and Wright’s up and down season.
I mean some new blood will energize the team for a week but after that?!
May 24th, 2008 at 11:13 am
what is Reyes thinking sometimes? seriously?
sorry but Heilman deserved better ..
dykstraw .. interesting point and great question: will this team when (not if) Willie gets fired?
if thats the case - are we playing for next year? already?
May 24th, 2008 at 11:20 am
The more the Mets lose, the sooner Willie gets fired.
The sooner Willie gets fired and his replacement doesn’t turn this mess around, the sooner Omar gets fired.
The sooner that happens, I amm happy.
The sooner Omar gets fired, the sooner he can pursue his dream of opening a retirement home for Latino Former Major League Players.
Willie can manage the facility, his ever calm demeanor will be soothing to old people.
May 24th, 2008 at 11:39 am
willie won’t get fired because the coupons and minayas are going to try and sell the public aline about what a great team the mets were talent wise. the’ll tell mets blog to write that stuff, too and a majority of fans will believe it. you already have people like sammy down in NC who doesn’t know a hit from a walk rah rahing about how much he loves his team and how great they are. Only the fan who doesn’t understand baseball puts this mess solely on a manager. Great - bring in the next contestant - BUT THEY woN’T BECASUE THEY KNOW MINAYA’S TEAM SUCKS. The Wilpons don;t even care. They’re besting attendance records so they just need to keep the public distracted. your average fan is a guy like sam - off to wal*mart for barbecue supplies, chief?

Ok I’m on my way to LAX for my flight to NY. Our problems will soon be solved. Get ready to handle the various coaching duties you’ve been volunteering to handle.
No, I’m not rooting against the boys but I’m not getting bent rooting for them either. We’ll have plenty of time to turn things around.
As for The Kid, I’m not upset with his words. He’s an enthusiastic guy what do you think he’ll say? It’s not like Willie is his best buddy and they were never teammates so go ahead and say what you think. Frankly this team needs some honest talk. I think I’ll make Carter my Executive of Enthusiasm!
See you at Blondies Tuesday night and at Big Shea Wednesday. The first few days of my stewardship will be spent with the fans so everybody feels good about the change!
BYE BYE BIC WILLIE!
HELLO FUNDAMENTALS!
THERE’S A NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN AND HIS NAME IS BLONDIESJAKE. Y’ALL BE COOL!

Down on the corner, out in the street,
Willy and the poor Mets are playin;
Bring a nickel; tap your feet.
May 24th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
They can’t just change the manager, they have to make some plater moves. These guys don’t give a crap about Willie, they’ll probably be happy to see him go. The have to get rid of Heilman, Castillo, and maybe Delgado and even Beltran if they could get a great deal.
Did you SEE Castillo last night? He’d be faster reacting to plays if he was in a wheelchair!
May 24th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
While hindsight is always 20-20, would you make the Jose Reyes for Lou Piniella trade now?
May 24th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
BMF, I feel your pain. Part of me wants to root against the Mets just to catalyze some serious change, and the other part is horrified at being so disloyal to my beloved team.
Now I am trying to achieve a Zen-like “Que Sera Sera” state, where losing is inevitable so I just concentrate on the in-game play and look for small signs of hope (or not). Its not like this is the first time in my life the Mets have sucked.
The Mets are suffering from a cascade of badness, from ancient players to laziness to not caring to the collapse to underperforming to a bad manager etc etc. Its impossible at this point to tell where one ends and the next begins.
All I know is, there is going to be a RIOT at Shea on Monday, and I sure wouldn’t want 45,000 Met fans pissed at me!!
May 24th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
The first move is on the way, Nick Evans is coming up, finally, even tought i’d like to see Pascucci first, but this kid is reaaly good, hope he shows something…

“BMF Rooting Against Mets?”- Dude, you are dangerously close to jumping the shark. Go ahead and scream ’til your face turns blue (and orange), rant and rave, boo and blog, but the minute you sit down to watch the game and you root for Mets to lose, you have, as SamInNC so perfectly put it, committed treason.
The funny thing is, you admitted Willie did a good job last night, and yet somehow that was the last straw for you. Now you’re going to hold your breath until he’s fired. And don’t give me any of this “for the greater good of the team” bulls**t. We lost the division by ONE f-ing game last year. If Jerry Manuel brings us to within one game of the playoffs this year, are you going to say “Thank God we lost those games in Colorado to get Willie fired”. I don’t think so.
I understand the frustration. If you’re to disgusted to watch, I get it. I’m hoping you were just venting, but if you can actually ROOT AGAINST the Mets, well……….say hello to The Fonz for me.
LETS GO METS! LETS GO METS! LETS GO METS!

Carter made an interesting call to the schmoozer today on the FAN. More backpeddling. Backpeddling is the new black. Nobody’s gonna be happy until we’re 7 games out front. Make that 12. Or 16.
May 24th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
backpedalling, not backpeddling.
Irregardless, you know what I mean.

I know it defies all the laws of obsession with the team that we fans follow but sometimes we have to wave goodbye to Oz. At times a cold sobering shower is needed. But after the shower pragmatism returns and we realize it is the owner’s team. Yes we call them our team and use “we” to describe them but unless you have ownership in the team or are employed by the team they are not ours. During the brief sobering experience I ask myself “does ownership care about this team’s W/L record?” If the answer is no that I ask myself why then should I. In this case I believe the ownership does care about the W/L record. Perhaps not as much as the bottom line or that we care when we live in Oz but they do care. This Mets team may not win a division or make the playoffs but if you go to the game there is a 50% chance they will win and the game will be entertaining. And it does provide us with hours of entertaining posting and discussion of what needs to be done and to explain to others why Willie is not the best manager since John J. McGraw.

Love your opinion. Maybe men jockstraps site might guide someone there.
