A New York Mets Blog for all fans of the New York Mets, especially former fans of the Brooklyn Dodgers, and residents of Brooklyn, written by Adam Salazar.

Wags Boils Over!!!

…and BMF is lovin’ it!

In case you haven’t seen or heard check MetsBlog for the video - it‘s a MUST SEE!

The climax of course was, “Can somebody tell me why the f*ck the closer is being interviewed and I didn’t even play, while they’re over there not getting interviewed? I get it, they’re gone. f*ckin’ shocker!”

WOW! Them’s fightin’ words. Especially when he looked and waved directly towards the row of lockers housing Carlos Delgado and Carlos Beltran.

.Personally I think Delgado is the real focus of Wag’s ire as opposed to Beltran. Delgado is almost NEVER interviewed and he’s almost ALWAYS taking the collar.

Gee I seem to remember a certain catcher from Brooklyn who said the same thing last year but the moronic local press decided to accuse him of being racist - idiots!

BMF applauded PLD then and I applaud Wagner now for having the sack to say something. Wags has been around long enough to know this season is slipping away before our eyes and he also knows the manager doesn’t motivate anyone so why hell not try himself.

GO WAGS GO!!!

Delgado and Willie should both be put on the next bus out of town.

***

But the good news of the day was Mike Pelfrey taking a no-no into the 7th inning, which is 6 innings more than a Met fan needs for the no-hitter superstitions to kick in. Unfortunately the elusive 1st franchise no-hitter went by the boards when Aaron Bleepin’ Boone struck again. Only this time it was a single to right.

Grrrrrrrrrr

Big Pelf (sans the mouthpiece) dominated the Nats allowing just 1R, 3H, 4K, 7.2IP. It’s a shame not to be rewarded for that effort but at least this further cements BMF favorite Big Pelf’s position in the rotation.

The breaks went our way early when Beltran made a fantastic sliding catch in the 1st and D-Wright elevated higher than I knew he could go to rob a hit in the 3rd. Both plays smelled like they were just the kind of no-hitter magic one needs but then came Aaron Bleepin’ Boone.

.BMF was pissed when Pelf lost the no-hitter but I was strangely numb at the end of this game. After the no-no was gone I just expected to lose. Granted we got no breaks with Willie Harris making the catch of the year in the 9th, Delgado lining out to Boone who doubled Beltran off 3rd, and Reyes being nailed when his psycho dash to 3rd failed.

But BMF can’t kill Reyes for running us out of the 8th inning. After Jose beat out a squibber to open the frame he advanced to second on Castillo’s sac bunt. Only when Jose saw the Nats defense left 3rd base unattended he continued to motor towards third.

The only problem was Christian Guzman also read the play and the two SS’s ended up in a footrace with Guzman getting at least 15 foot head start. The Nats needed a perfect throw but Bleepin’ Boone executed and Reyes was tagged out. (FYI if he slide he would’ve been safe)

.Keith was right to say, “if you’re down by a run you stay safely at second and give your team 2 chances to get you in” but it;s understandable if Reyes isn’t getting it done with the stick right now he’s trying to contribute with speed. BMF has to trust Jose’s instincts on the base paths which 9 out of 10 times will result in good things for the Mets - so I’ll live with this mistake.

***

BMF loved the entire broadcast from the upper deck stunt. I thought it was a refreshing way to see the game and awesome to see Gary, Keith and Ron sitting in the “upper tank” with 1000’s of kids.

It was also fantastic to see 2 all-time Met heroes Eddie Kranepool and Art Shamsky stop by for in-game visits.

Kranepool is a true blue NY Met if there ever was one and Shamsky was super cool with BMF when I interviewed him last year. Part 1
Part 2

BMF PREDICTS METS TO SWEEP YANKS IN THE BRONX

This must seem like a strange prediction considering we just lost 3 of 4 to the lowly Nats and went 3-4 on our home stand vs last place teams. But the yankees are also IN LAST PLACE and they are SO BAD right now that I think they’re ripe for the taking.

Santana v Darrel Rasner should be a Met W

Perez v Pettitte could easily be a 13 K outing from Ollie

Maine v Wang Sunday night just might be a no-hitter by USS Maine!

For the record this prediction is based primarily on the fact that the yankees just suck more than we do right now!

  1. The Lip Says:

I’ll take the other side and say that the Mets are swept. I’m sick.

  2. The Coop Says:

I know - lets say that we should win with Santana on the mound. But that won’t happen. Perez will beat Pettitte, i don’t doubt that. Then you really expect this team to be Wang when we can’t even beat a dude with a 11.68 ERA? If you believe that, then I got this here bridge I’d like to sell ya!

  3. RJ Says:

Ill pay for the cab to the airport if willie and delgado pay for the flight outta here…

  4. CoreyNYC Says:

I am not sure why this wasn’t a bigger story this morning but I posted a quote on my blog of Moises Alou quote where takes a nice shot at Willie for not playing him yesterday.

I also have the transcript of Wagner’s 1050 segment.

  5. JoeG Says:

Sad days….how do you fix this? The team is quitting on their manager (lack of hustle and bone headed base running)-the minors are depleted and awful-no help there-Do we just release Delgado? I am not sure what the Wilpons are waiting for as far as firing Willie Randolph -maybe Met fans need to quit going to games and when attendance goes low enough-maybe the Wilpons will develop a new approach-building from within? Minor leagus development? What a novel idea! I watched Scott Kazmir mow down the Yankees yesterday and thought of what might have been!

  6. Original62Fan Says:

The Mets are nose-diving and the Yanks are a feeble last place team. This outta be fun.
Still, I wish interleague play would be abolished (right after the DH).

  7. Invincible9 Says:

I pay for the flight, anything to see them outta here…

It’s obvious that these guys dont want to play anymore for willie, so they dont want to win for willie, it’s simple it’s just like that teacher we had at school that was really nice, and charming, we used that to kick around him, to get out of class, to get past the test, just because he was nice, the same is happening with Willie, his players are getting around him, i dont think they even listen to what he says, not even care about it, they just show to play, and then they leave, they dont care anymore…

  8. USMF Says:

Hey B-Jake, from yesterday…”should Beltran really be charging down the line on a line drive? Um, NO!”

Maybe, maybe not…but it was a contact play so he was running on, well um…contact…I just can’t figure out who was the guy who put the contact play on…

Was it just me, or was Guzman in the base path and interfering with Reyes…

I feel bad for Pelf, best game of the year and Nats made the plays…Mets didn’t…

  9. CoreyNYC Says:

Willie put the contact play on. Beltran and Willie both said it.

As I wrote last night on my blog, to me, that play makes absolutely no sense with 1 out.

A fly ball there scores Beltran, as does a base hit.
An infield grounder might get him out and an infield line drive did get him out.

Same goes for the Castillo bunt with Reyes up. Why wouldn’t you have Reyes steal 2nd there instead of having Castillo bunt him over?

Have Reyes steal 2nd and THEN bunt him over the 3rd.

I don’t know if Castillo did that on his own or not but he bunted on the first freakin pitch and didn’t give Reyes a chance to steal.

  10. CoreyNYC Says:

Uni Watch finally got the scoop on Santana’s sleeves:

Finally heard back from Mets stitcher Russ Gompers about Johan Santana’s sleeve piping (if you missed that entry, look here). In Russ’s words: “Johan likes his sleeves very loose, so he actually stretched the sleeve out with his hands and the piping frayed. Charlie [Samuels Mets equipment manager] ordered new shirts for him with one inch more room on the sleeves.” I really thought there was some extra stitching or ornamentation on the piping, but that turns out not to be the case

  11. Invincible9 Says:

Corey you’re right on the beltran contact play, it was too risky to play it that way and it showed just exactly that, but in the reyes-castillo bunt, you can’t take your chances waiting to see if reyes can steal second or not, what if he gets tagged out ? ? you have to bunt him over to second, and then you have frikin Wright and Beltran, #3 and #4 in your lineup, are you telling me they couldn’t get a single ? ? that’s the way i see it, of course i respect your opinion…

  12. The dude formerly known as Bill L. Says:

Too much doom and gloom over yesterday’s game: it was a terrificly pitched game and we came out on the short side of it. When there’s a pitching duel like that, somebody has to win. With a catch like Willie Harris’s and also the highlight reel plays from Beltran and Wright, fans definitely got their money’s worth. I’m bummed we lost, but that’s a great baseball game.
Coop: Bergmann’s era is deceptive–he’s not a bad pitcher. It only takes a couple of bad starts to give you that 10+ era in the spring. Bergman pitched to an era around 4 last year for the Nats, and he posted their lowest era in the spring, before having a couple of bad starts and being sent down to the minors to work it out. I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to compare him to Pelfrey in general. But both guys were on fire yesterday, and I can’t really get too bent out of shape about a loss like that.
I still can’t figure out Reyes: I’m not too distressed by the overagressive baserunning play–I’d rather have that than the non-running Reyes that we’ve seen so often earlier this season. What is distressing is his impatience at the plate. I had to watch the Nats feed and on his third AB the announcers pointed out that he was “seeing only his third pitch of the day,” having swung at first pitches in both previous times up.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing the boys take on the Yanks– for some crazy reason I share BMF’s irrational enthusiasm about this weekend’s results.

  13. The dude formerly known as Bill L. Says:

I was watching the game yesterday, and looking at the shot from the centerfield cam, I thought how difficult it must be to steal a base on Jon Rauch. Why you ask? It’s because he seems to have an “I” in the back of his head. Groan…..
    What’s up with that anyway?

  14. CoreyNYC Says:

Giambi wears a thong and shares it with teammates. Seriously.

    Check out my blog.

  15. grenzo Says:

i would rather have gomez or hunter patrolling center field.. delgado should be working a hod dog cart

  16. Invincible9 Says:

    i think he’d still drop the sausages…

  17. tony Says:

Wow, if what I’ve been hearing on WFAN about omar undercutting willie’s authority especially with latino players is true, this team has a ways farther to go in the downward direction because even if we fire the entire coaching staff, the next coach will likely experience the same s**t with omar

  18. The Lip Says:

I do not believe Willie is to blame entirely. I feel badly for him, but he needs to be let go so that his replacement can indded see the same tepid results and then everyone will see where the real problem lies. I’m ready to lose Willie, because he’s the protection for Minaya. With any luck, Willie will be gone ASAP and Minaya will be shown the door once the Mets fail to do win a pennant. With any luck that is. Then again, I have a rancid feeling that the Wilpons are happy so long as they break attendance records. They’re value added kinds of people and they’ve probably tripled the value of the Mets in the last 7 years, so I’m sure they care if they win it all so long as the seats are (if not filled) at least sold. If I am wrong about this, then there is NO reason whatsoever to keep Minaya around. He rides the hype wave and makes big buys. He has no idea how to assemble a team.

Invincible: in all seriousness, I love the fact that new commenters come to BMF - fresh bllod is life of a blog - yet in the last 2 weeks since you’ve been here, you’ve single handedly commented as musch as the rest of us. You comment every 30 seconds. It’s annoying. This is obviously your social life.

  19. USMF Says:

Tony, wouldn’t surprise me if it was true, but knowing the Fan, it’s probably exaggerated and taken out of context. Or just made up completely. Team is in turmoil, Fan is just stirring up more controversy…

I don’t completely blame Willie, but we’ve been hearing stories going back to 2006 about players questioning he’s managing…he’s lost the team because of his “gut feelings”.

I love HoJo, but he might have to go as well…maybe the whole staff other than Mullet and Guy…

    I-9, don’t feed the bears…

  20. grenzo Says:

yeah willie had nothing to do with the amazing run on contact call with cerrano at the plate in the ninth..or not playing alou even though he played a whopping 4 innings the night before..or putting in heilman with a one run lead the night before or or or..get your head out of the sand lip

  21. El Duderino Says:

Did anyone catch Gary Cohen on Evan and Beningo’s show this morning? Some great comments in there. Specifically re: Reyes, something my wife and I have talked about many times — his loss of focus became really apparent when Jose Valentin got injured last year. Valentin’s presence was such a stabilizing force and is sorely missed. Obviously I don’t know any of this firsthand, but hearing it from the guys who are there everyday with the team (Ed Coleman, Gary Cohen) it seems that he and Pedro were the “glue” keeping things together in the clubhouse, and their absence is clearly felt.

Oh and Lippy, re: Invincible… pot, meet kettle. :)

  22. Fort Greene Met Fan Says:

Ha ha—I’m the wife! I’ve been suggesting Valentin as 1st base coach since the winter. He seemed like a glue guy in the clubhouse, could connect the young guys to old, latin guys to non-latin guys, and he led by example. Always enthusiastic and always playing hard. Not the only key to the 2006 team but perhaps a small but important influence.

Of course Petey gives everyone confidence and makes everyone laugh. Certainly could use more of both right now.

Willie has to go, if only to change the atmosphere and the tone. And could it get worse? He doesn’t have the players behind him, he can’t manage the running game, he can’t manage the bullpen, he can’t manage the batting order. What is he good at exactly?

  23. Invincible9 Says:

Did someone said something about me ? ? ? i don’t know, i think i read something like that, maybe in another site, sorry guys…

Mets will win at least 2, i have a feeling, they like playing on the weekends, if you don’t believe , check back on the calendar and the results are there, Cin, Ariz, Phil, Atl, just look at that…

  24. alexjersey Says:

hey Lip, why you gotta take this so seriously, why you have to always say something about somebody, i hate that, just live your life and let the others live theirs, thats why i haven’t been posting lately, just because is simple stupid to be arguing with somebody i dont even know, and to let myself get angry about somebody who to tell the truth is not worrht it, just live your life post your comments and let others post theirs, that’s it !

  25. dave Says:

you know…i’m tempted to go to the mets website and buy a wagner name and number shirt…thanks billy for speaking up and getting s**t off your chest..it’s not healthy to hold everything in..and he’s 100% right in his statement…
