Mets Gotta Lotta AAAA Players

Being called a AAAA player is generally an insult - a guy who kills AAA but cant quite make it in The Show. But that’s not how I mean it.

We seem to have a gang of budding MLB players, guys who deserve a shot in the Bigs but aren’t gonna get a chance b/c there just isn’t room.

I’m talking about guys like Lucas Duda, Nick Evans and Kirk Nieuwenhuis. All these guys can put the bat on the ball but I don’t think any of ‘em are making the club.

Then you’ve got Fernando Martinez, Brad Emaus and Pedro Beato. More talent worthy of at least a test drive in Flushing but again it’s possible none of them will be in Orange and Blue come opening day.

Of course with Beltran and Bay in the OF we could see both Duda and Evans both in the lineup by tax day.

The funny thing is despite Beltran giving us a better chance to win I’d rather root for Lucas Duda.

I still think Luca Duda is Mafia … and we have a 3B named “Lutz” or “Putz” - oh wait we had a Putz already ..

Elio Chacon far behind? Choo Choo “hey bub” Coleman? .. Charlie Neal?

good article in today’s Post on how the Mets are more worried about 2012 than 2011 .. Great… so give Wilpon all your money this year…

Why all the hate on Bay? There is Zero reason to believe that Bay is anymore DL bound than Wright, Pagan or Ike. In fact, Pagan has missed time because of getting hurt running after balls…Bay has only missed time (in his entire career) because he ran head first into a steal post.

Not to mention, Emaus and Beato are more AAAA players than Duda and Nieuwenhuis.

The only reason Emaus is even being considered is because our other two “better” options are Castillo who’s on a quick decline and Murphy who’s never played 2nd before (and still fields the ball like a corner infielder). Emaus couldn’t even beat out Aaron Hill!

I like Beato too, but he’s another guy who’s only got a shot because we got no better options.

Duda is a guy who looks like he can mash the ball at any level. He’s just not a guy who’d look good in RF at s**ti-Field.

Nieuwenhuis is still an up and coming prospect. He’s probably gonna get time later this year if he keeps progressing they way he has. He might be in the running with F-Mart to take over RF next year.

Evans on the other hand would be a nice bench player…but neither his bat or his glove are good enough to warrant a starting position. Unfortunately for Nick, with Hairston and Harris on the roster, he’s doomed for wavers.

BMF, ya know I got love for ya, but are you even trying any more?

Pouring rain in Melbourne today so it looks like the Mets / Nats game will get called.

Our AAAA players only look good because of our lack of AAAAA players.

I say let the AAAA players play. We are going to finish in 4th or 5th place with the AAAA or AAAAA players so whats the difference!

The way this team looks for 2011, I would suggest that you all start drinking heavily! So lool for me in AA!

USMF: I agree with you about Duda having a higher upside than BMF is seeing here (and also about Bay). Duda has been getting a lot of fantasy attention lately. Baseball HQ, to my mind the most knowledgeable guys when it comes to this stuff, have been throwing some love Duda’s way in recent days. A column of theirs today, while acknowledging his poor batting average in his first 84 AB’s last season focuses more on how he tore it up after that point: ” in his final 38 AB, Duda hit .316, with an 84% contact rate, 218 PX, and .351 xBA. He’s clearly not THAT good, but he could produce a solid BA and some power if he gets an opportunity. ” Another article the other day identified him as one of five significant sleepers in the league. So, I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do.

Dude….I was able to watch Duda last year when Buffalo came to town…I can tell ya, the dude can flat out mash the ball…he hit a line drive HR the other way that didn’t start to drop until it got over the fence.

I’ve seen a lot of AAA games and Duda looks more than just a AAA player…Kinda like what Justin Morneau (and Joe Mauer too) looked like more than AAA players when I saw them before they made it big.

    Cut Ollie and Castro !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Fred Wilpon Says:

    Cleonjones,
Yours is a most unusual request. I have received numerous calls, e-mails, death threats, etc to cut the following: Ollie Perez, Luis Castillo, Carlos Beltran and even Jose “I’m doggin’ it” Reyes. However, your demand puzzles me as Castro ( I assume you mean Ramon Castro) has not been with our team for quite some time. Rest assured, I will do whatever it takes to make the fans happy so I will see what I can do about signing him and then issuing his unconditional release.

As for the future of the company, don’t worry. No one is “untradeable” so the money we save on trading high paid players for middle of the road guys should keep the money in our pockets and thus keep the team in our family for a long time. Rest assured ticket prices will not go up this year, however parking should go anywhere between $20 - $25 per car. We may start charging per person in the car in addition to the parking fees. Pay toilets are also being discussed. Ditto for napkins. Well, I hate to cut this short, but Jeff is crying and my need his diaper changed. Be back soon. Keep the $ coming.

Yup, lots of turmoil with the Mets… how could it be otherwise?
Yet, I’ve liked what I’ve seen of the few games I’ve been able to catch. What team out of 30 ever knows where they’ll be in 6 months?
Enough about the Wilpons — when they start penciling themselves into the lineup or starting rotation, then I’ll care.
    Let’s Go Mets!

Sounds like they have 4 AAAA players competing for the 2B job.

Then again, can Luis Castillo even be considered a AAAA player anymore? I just want Brad Emaus to win the job so Castillo isn’t on the team anymore. But he’s been playing better than Emaus. This is frustrating.
