Here we are at the start of a new season.
No offense, but I miss the old BMF……. doesn’t anybody want to talk about yet another great Opening Day for the boys in blue and orange? How great was Niese, not only on the mound, but even attitude-wise, convincing the manager and coaching staff to let him stay in the game after the sixth, and still expressing some incredulity to TC in the dugout after getting pulled after hitting the magic number in the 7th? How about DW with the nice glove work, the two SBs (take it easy DW)? Cowgill with the grand salami! (How many new Mets have had memorable opening day debuts over the years?) Buck! Murphy! (Happy 28th!) Byrd! Team batting average of .342!! Even though Duda got nothing and Ike started off with the golden sombrero– and we still hit .342!! How about getting to see the oldest rookie (not playing for the Knicks) Scott Rice have such a great MLB debut? Anyone out there to talk some baseball? Lord Charles? Blondies Jake? Irish Mike? Corey (More on My Blog..) NYC? Doris from Rego Park??
First in the NL East…………
Calling all BMFers! Are you out there? What are your thoughts on yesterday’s game? On 2013? Anything?
Are you out there, Florida Met Fan Rich?
What about you, foxster?
How about you, ProfessorReyes?
Matt the Met Fan?
John in Athens?
You out there, CowCrusher?
How about you, rj?
Where have you gone, MetsFan88?
Earth to PapiChico?
Somor Santaminaya? Any racist in a storm…..
Calling on 0rigingal 62 fan??
Anybody up for some Mets talk?
TDFKABL I’m back! Haven’t frequented the site as much as I’d like since it was in a “dormant” state most of the offseason. But boy am I glad the Mets were anything but dormant yesterday! What a game! While I know they won’t be WS contenders this year, I like how hard they play and if we can get Niese to pitch like that for even half of his starts he’ll easily have 15 wins! Love this team and so glad baseball is back.
Met_Maven, Buck great to see you back! I’d love to see Niese get 15 this year, and if they play as hard as yesterday, it should be a lot of fun to watch. And tomorrow we get to see Harvey 2013, so I’m looking forward to that.
Niese will surely be one of the bright spots this year. I definitely see between 15-20 wins and ERA in low 3’s. Harvey should also get at least 15 wins. It’s after that that I am worried. Gee coming off injury is an unknown, Hefner could be a surprise but more than likely is just a mediocre pitcher. Marcum is already hurt and am fearful that is only a prelude of things to come. I’d like to see the Mets wait until May or mid June to bring up Wheeler, but I wouldn’t mind seeing Montero up earlier. Where is Mejia? Is he starting or relieving? Hurt or healthy? Let’s see him up here now.
Offense will be inconsistent. We need big production from Wright and Davis but if Duda, Cowgill, Murphy, Buck, Tejada, Byrd can give us steady , consistent average years I would be OK with that. Throw in D’arnaud later in the year and some bench players we can root for like Baxter, Valdespin, and Turner and I’ll take it. Maybe a few of the above will surprise us with a banner year?? We can only hope!
I’m here! I was at Opening Day, checked in after and was so sad to see no one had commented—glad to see other BMFers are here. I’m ready for action!
Ok, we know it’s a “rebuilding” year but I’m going to enjoy all the good parts as they come (like the bombs tonight) and try not to get too focused on standings etc. I do love seeing the kids play. Unfortunately I no longer have a TV though so it will be more like listening to the kids play, on the radio.
(PS: “any racist in a storm” cracked me up. I forgive you for not adding me in the old skool regulars list…I know I disappeared for awhile)
Wow Lippy and Sonia get a shout out and FGMF and I don’t? Ouch!
J/K - you could have named 200 posters and there still would be a few you’d forget about. I don’t care about this video stuff but am happy to come on here and talk with the old regulars after every game. Especially after games like the last two!
And this “Unfortunately I no longer have a TV” what?! Is that legal? To quote Joey from Friends - “then what is all your furniture pointed at?”
We’ll get a hopes up and our hearts broken as usual, but if the 2013 New York Mets can bear any resemblance over the next 160 games as the team that played games one and two, then I do believe that it’s going to be a good year.
Hahaha, hi IrishMike!! SO GOOD to see all you guys. I was getting kind of melancholy when I thought the BMFers had disbanded…
Yeah, saving money by not having a TV—totally easy because I don’t watch much besides baseball and what I do I can see online. Does anyone have the MLB TV package? Can you see the games on SNY that way? I will really miss the pre/postgame.
The IMPORTANT priority is obviously to find a good brownstone Brooklyn sports bar to watch the games! Blondies is great but too far for every day watching. Anyone is the hood with suggestions? Ft Greene, Park Slope, Cobble/Boerum/Clinton Hill, Bklyn Heights etc…
as any Met fan i really enjoyed the first two games of this new season, but wasn’t too surprised by game number three. i felt some sympathy for the players and fans who endured that nasty cold windy weather sitting outside at the ballgame.
not to digress, but quite some time ago, in order to get me to leave his Mets jacket alone, my son bought me my very own (Shea Stadium Model) Mets jacket. for a very long time, i haven’t been able to wear that jacket due to size restrictions. this spring, by some miracle i can now wear that satin Mets Jacket with those beautiful emblems, once again. i just wish for another miracle, to once again enjoy a Championship season from the Mets, but I’m afraid that the odds are against me.
