Swept

Of course we got swept out of the Bronx, the painful part was watching a walk-off homer seal the deal.

I pretty much expect to get swept whenever we go to Yankee Stadium so I can’t say I’m surprised it happened but BMF still needed to employ some relaxation techniques and deep breathing to prevent my head from exploding.

First of all Russell Martin’s first HR was a complete joke. His game winner was a legitimate shot but the 2 run shot earlier in the game just barely snuck over the softball wall the yankees play with in RF.

Of course the softball HR doesn’t happen if Wright’s throwing error doesn’t extend the frame.

Y’know just like Jeter, Wright seems to make an error every subway series as well.

Too bad for Niece who was outstanding. He deserved a better fate but alas this is Mets v Yanks where things rarely ever go well for the Orange and Blue.

Thankfully we’ve got a day off.

We are not going anywhere with this horrendous bullpen. Can Mejia be brought up? Can Billy Wagner be talked out of retirement? Jesse Orosco still looking to give that left arm a shot? It is amazing how much I now miss Izzy.

I am sorry but I cannot have any respect for this organization as long as Bay is put in the starting lineup. Is it better to pay a guy $16 mil a year and have him destroy your batting order or pay a guy $16 mil and have a young guy perform in LF. I do not know how Bay lives iwth himself stealing money from the organization for the past 3 years. I woud love to see that list of which major leaguers were on steriods. Not saying Bay was but if he has played by the rules, what could account for this immediate slide in skills that I have never seen before.

This team better get off the mat against the Rays because I can feel the team starting to lose the tug of war in remaining competitive for the season.

I hear that Bay is batting .275 in the batting cage with his strikeouts way down. Rumor has it that the fences being brought in is causing him to pull off the ball too much during games. I cannot wait for Bay to have a couple of singles in a game and tell everyone how he is close, very very close. Bay doesnt understand that if he gets back on the DL in the next week or two, he still has a shot of winning the MVP award. Nobody has ever been more valuable being on the DL than Bay.

I don’t think TC is a very, good in game manager. If he was going to bunt the go ahead runner over (Ike), and we all know TC is married to the bunt, then why not put a pinch runner in.

Even if you were going to swing away a pinch runner is due there, as we all know Ike was not going to score from second on a single.

I feel the “June Swoon” coming on and the Mets seem like they are returning to the team everyone was expecting, instead of the inspired young team that started out.

Stop playing the Bays and Torrezs on the team and let’s stay young if we’re gonna lose!

I agree that TC needs to change things up a bit. Whether that’s the pen, eliminating Ike and Bay from the lineup, whatever - what he’s doing right now just isn’t right. Why is Ike still in the bigs? Why is Bay starting? Why is it always the same crappy rotation from the bullpen? Don’t we have AAA arms/bats that we can bring up, even just for experience? Why is a guy batting under .160 for the entire season still in the lineup? I don’t get it and am losing faith in our skipper fast.

Well the question is how much control TC has over his roster and even his lineup. I’m guessing management wants the $60 million dollar man and the boy wonder on the roster and playing. Not sure what the deal is with the bullpen - probably a similar thought process by management but on a smaller scale. As in “we’re paying these guys the big bucks (comparatively anyway) so we’re sticking with them.”

I may not love every move TC makes but I’d argue he’s gotten more out of this group than any of us could have expected. The team has already brought up like five guys from the minors, do people really think there is a never ending supply of guys who are better? If so, the Mets have the greatest farm system in the history of baseball.

Jake! Stop being logical and making sense! You’re ruining it for the rest of the fanbase!

How weird is this? Mets are selling replica tickets from the Johan Santana no-hitter game. For only fifty bucks a ticket, I kid you not, you too can pretend that you were there! You can even delude yourself you had the “best seats in the house,” if you hurry, cos you don’t have to content yourself with the usual “Promenade outfield” for your fantasy tickets, no, for the same price you can pretend you were right there, hobbing with the knobs, in Metropolitan Box seats. As the club says it’s a “memento that can be passed on for generations. Your tickets will be printed on Season Ticket Holder stock,” to boot! What an opportunity to delude yourself and others!

  8. Irish Mike Says:

tdfkabl - anything for a buck and I’ll bet they get gobbled up in pretty large numbers though. This is actually great news for me though - the guy who gave me the tickets to the game (Metropolitan Box I was hobbing with the knobs alright) is keeping his hard tickets and framing them (we did on online print at home transfer). No he wasn’t there so…whatever. But now as part of this deal season ticket holders are getting a free reprint so unless he wants to keep a second set my bro and I should be in business.

  9. BlondiesJake Says:

    Apologies Met_Maven!

tdfkabl, that’s hilarious. And IM is right, they no doubt will be snapped up. If they sell enough “tickets” will they be able to retroactively call it a sellout?

Pen has the worst ERA in MLB, so yes, anything they do would be better. Same results would at least yield some experience for the kids in Buffalo.
