The Inside Scoop on Chris Young

BMF’s good buddy Jim Malone has been the SD Padres Strength and Conditioning Coach for a number of years and he knows Chris Young very well.

When I asked him about the newest Met Pitcher this is what he said:

“The Mets are getting a good pitcher, and a phenomenal person.

I know there will be question marks, but an athlete of his size, combined with the violent physical stress associated with pitching, has created some challenges for Chris, and for us, in our efforts to help him be strong & healthy in his time in San Diego.

It’s never been for lack of Chris’ work efforts or desire to be a better, thoroughly prepared athlete.  Despite the physical setbacks, he never wavered in his belief he’d compete again.

Chris exemplifies everything that a professional athlete should strive to become: dedicated, hard working, resilient, a positive role model, concerned for his community, a teammate that leads by example, and a dedicated family man.

It seems like this fall he got over the hump, and if he pitches back to form, he could be the steal of the 2010-11 off-season.

It’s been an honor to work with him the last 5 years. I’m proud of him as one of my athletes, but I’m more proud to call him a friend”

Can’t ask for a better recommendation than that.

Happy New Year! I hope everybody has a better 2011 than the Mets will.

This offseason gives us a taste of what it’s like being a Pirates fan…no reason for optimism or even irrational hope. I understand why the team is approaching the season this way, but it doesn’t make it any better.

As to the Jets, I also hope the team didn’t just exhaust themselves emotionally. But with a trip to the SB on the line, my guess is they can crank it back up. And I’m not worried about the officials, the NFL would LOVE having the NY market team that is born to make headlines playing in Jerry World in two weeks as opposed to Rapistberger and the cheapshot Steelers.

Hope you’re right BMF .. I heard he never hit 90 miles an hour in those last few starts he had last year ..

then again I thought Pavano was washed up so this is the kind of no risk signing we are all going to get used to ..

welcome to the big but small market Mets ….

This can not be a good sign when we get the job recommendation after we have hired the guy!

I guess we should be rejoicing as this is the biggest signing of the winter (who is he?)…not exactly breaking news!

2011 Slogan LIMBO-How low can we go?

Makes me want to sprint to the phone, hit the redial button, call Sandy back and tell him “I’m All In” for season tickets!

“I’ll take the April Plan Sandy” because we will be out of it by May!

Make plans boys! Your gonna have a lot of free time this summer!

    Which way to the beach?

“It ain’t over till Spring Training is Over” - Come on down boys!

One month till “Pitchers and Catchers First Workout” And Lord knows we are going to have 100 pitchers down here!

Wanted: Bullpen Catchers! Must be able to block pitches so we don’t have to replace the backstop!

Your gonna need a scorecard this year!

I like the Young signing. I think there’s a lot of upside in him.

If, I know its a big if but, if Young & Capuano can regain some of their old form then both can be pretty dependable starters for us.

There’s a lot of whiners out there! Geez!

It sounds like a rec letter for college. Oh well, I’m not throwing him under the bus until he’s had a solid chance and has failed miserably. If that doesn’t happen then I’m behind him 100%.
