Excited for Duda

BMF really has a good feeling about Lucas Duda.

I think this kid is about to grow into the major league version of himself. Last year he got a taste of the bigs and perhaps the most vital lesson he’ll ever get.

Despite being overmatched for quite some time after getting called up Duda stayed with it. Kept his composure, refused to lose confidence and ended up mauling the ball down the stretch.

Confidence has been tricky for the young strapping slugger. Believing he really belonged in the Bigs was an emotional hurdle that needed clearing and you gotta believe he had a smile on his face all winter knowing in his heart that he can handle MLB pitching.

Sure would be interesting if the kid gets off to a hot start and becomes the CityField Slugger.

Boy oh boy could we use a bona-fide slugger. And I’m not talking about a “power hitter” like Beltran, Wright etc, no I’m talking about an Adam Dunn hoss in the box (with a better avg)

Now that’s a storyline that could make the Mets Fun,

I agree about Duda but Terry Collins said Ruben Tejada is a good shortstop, who will have growing pains, but could be a very dynamic player. BMF? Thoughts?

BMF is back to posting almost daily now that pitchers and catchers have reported. I’m sure he has a Ruben Tejada post lined up between now and opening day.

Boy, As I look at the roster we are really weak in the outfield!

I don’t consider Jason Bay long term, and I believe the Mets would unload him today if they could.

Duda is our future in the outfield. Other thanKirk Nieuwenhuis what do we have as far as the future?

I got to see Duda play for the Bisons before he got called up..some of the Chief’s fans mad fun of his name until he hit it out of the park!!

  7. CowCrusher Says:

Dang phone keyboard…I meant “made” not “mad”

A side note: If and only If someone in the Mets has the Smarts and the gumption to keep Jeffy from screwing things up, and can perhaps not only put forth a sincere and wonderful tribute to the Spirit of The Kid that will stick with guys like Duda and Tejada but also be able to surprise us all with at least a “fun” season.

Let’s not forget, Duda is 26. At that age, you really are what you are, so expecting major increases is fairly unrealistic (aside from those that are the natural result of more playing time). That being said, if Duda can get 600 ABs this year, then 60 XBH hits (35-38 2B, 22-25 HR) with an OPS around .850 is not out of the question.

If he can do that, and the Mets can get 200 XBH from Wright, Davis and Bay and 200 IP from Johan, then they will at least be interesting for most of the season.

  10. USMF Says:

I’ve seen Duda a few times in AAA, and he hit HR in every games I’ve been at. From what I’ve seen, he was a laser beam line drive hitter.

I saw him hit a line drive that hit the top of the wall in center field, I swear, the ball never went more than 12ft off the ground! If a player was standing on 2nd, he probably could have caught the ball! The ball was hit so hard that the CF’er only had a chance to turn around before the ball was over his head!

Does anyone recall hearing “camptown races” when Lucas comes up to bat? ;-)

  12. Matt the Met Fan Says:

I didn’t realize Duda was natural 1B - learning RF .. no doubt he can hit.. but can he play OF in Citi?

  13. CowCrusher Says:

No new posts from BMF..Anyone get tix via the Citi promo? Got 2 nosebleeders (sec 500) for the Subway Series on Sat but I think I will camping out by the ShakeShack more often than not. The fees they tack on were a bit too much but one game a year is not going to break me..good news though, more and more Metropolitans fans are coming out of the wood work here in the ‘Cuse!
