Buh-Bye Hagin and Rookie Team

Wayne Hagin seemed like a nice enough guy and there’s really nothing wrong with his announcing but his mid-west twang (do mid-westerners even have twangs? Well you get the point) never seemed to fit in the big city.

Won’t be sorry to see him go but Jim Duquette, who’s allegedly in the running, seems like another odd choice.

Personally I’d like to see Eddie Coleman get the gig. He’s the perfect choice and a great guy.

Meanwhile along with Hagin the Mets Rookie level Port St. Lucie is also history.

I guess they still have another rookie team and most organizations only have 1 so there’s a valid argument that 2 is overkill but it sure does come at a bad time for PR reasons.

This is a cost cutting move and there are no 2 ways about it so the Mets are either losing so much money they straight up can’t afford this team or it was a poor business decision to have 2 rookie teams in the first place.

Probably both.

And whats up with the lame perks the Mets are offering minority owners. OK a luxury box is nice, and 1 parking spot is good but then are you expected to pay for a second vehicle?

Batting practice with other minority owners on a “non-game” day is no big deal at all. In fact I believe they hold these events for big sponsors anyway.

But the best of all is the business card with your name and “owner” embossed on it. WOW a business card?!?

I could go to Staples and get business cards that says anything I want in less than a day.

Ahhh the Mets - gotta love ‘em!

Pass the paper bags please!…I need a medium for my head!
Three rings isn’t enough to hold this circus!

I just can’t believe that a marketing department, if they haven’t been “wacked” yet, came up wth that crap!

Sandy did say this team was going to be alot of fun this year!….Can it get anymore lower?

Makes it hard to walk around with Mets stuff on!

actually the best perk is you get discounted jerseys and merchandise. You’d think being a part owner would at least entitle you to free merchandise for your 20 million. It’s alll so bush league it can’t possibly be true. But it is true.

Getting rid of Wayne is the best off-season move we’ve made!!!!!!!!!! Thank f**ing God.

FGMF: in principle, I agree, but it depends on who gets the gig. I often didn’t know what was happening during the play with Wayne, but I came to appreciate some things about him over time.

It’s hard to imagine someone who does a worse job of calling plays. I realize the team on the field this season will be totally amateur hour, but can’t we get a professional to help Howie in the booth?

The radio booth has never been the same since Murphy and Gary no longer do play by play..I love Howie Rose…but Wayne Hagin’s play by play was tough to listen to.

  7. USMF Says:

You could never replace Murphy and Gary in the Box…(they are the reason why I’m a Mets fan)…Howie took a little time, but he’s grown on me. I don’t think Hagin was that bad, but when you are trying to follow legends, you have no shot…

Like I’ve been saying, MLB is running the Mets and Sandy’s #1 priority is to cut all spending and get the team back in the black.

Sandy isn’t concerned with winning or the fans…I’m not trying to bash him in this either…the bad moves made by Wilpon put the Mets in this position and MLB is trying to clean it up…Fred is on his way out the door…

For $20 Million I get to throw out the first ball with 15,000 numb Met fans cheering me on? SUCH a deal ! where do I sign up ??

Eddie Coleman is the best .. at least our announcing team is a professional product .. even though the ownership isn’t … Listening to Hagin was like nails on a chalkboard …
