What’s up with Niese Rumors?

Hard to know what’s tangible and what is just smoke from a guy with a twitter account regarding rumors about our young lefty.

But the rumors persist and it makes you wonder if there must be some truth that Alderson is looking to deal Niese.

Latest is Seth Smith the Rockie OF which I simply don’t get. Smith is a nice player with 15 to (maybe) 20 HR potential when playing half his games at Coors. Maybe he’s just the first piece in a larger lucrative package but I don’t understand the desire to deal Niese.

Alderson must not believe in the kid or knows something we don’t - why else would you trade a solid young SP for another OF… Weird … Very weird

I can see why Alderson would want to trade Niese. Sure, he’s young and cheap and *could* be very good one day, but right now he’s a fifth starter (at best) who has not successfully navigated a full major league season.

I can’t see the desire to swap him for a 4th outfielder to be an insurance policy in case Lucas Duda fails or Jason Bay continues to stink.

I dunno, very strange. If I were Colorado and the Mets were offering me Niese for Seth Smith, my initial reaction would be ‘whats wrong with him?’ because it doesn’t seem to make any sense.

The Mets are hanging their hats on the season and the marketing of seats that Santanna is going to be back in April!

Let me be the first to say that Santanna will not be ready or effective in April, nor is he going to be the workhorse or even close to it of the staff this year.

That is why they are leaking this info out is small doses, so I would not get my hopes up.

That makes dealing Niese crazy, unless we are going to get 2 starters, which ain’t happening!
