Zero Reason to Trade Niese

Everytime I hear a rumor of trade talk swirling around John Niese I think to myself, “Why in the world would we trade Niese?!?”

Unless we get blown away with an offer of a solid young arm AND a legit offensive prospect there NO WAY in Hell Niese is sent packing.

He fits the bill in almost every criteria:

• He’s young

• He’s cheap

• He’s under Met control for years to come

• He’s a reliable lefty starting pitcher

• He’s NY tested

• He’s home grown

In other words Niese is precisely the player Alderson desperately needs on this team.

So until there is something real to report I’m disregarding any/all Niese rumors until next winter at the earliest.

    One word: Moneyball

I don’t get this move at all. The reason the Oakland A’s won during the moneyball years was because of their pitching, despite what the movie depicted.

We need pitching in a bad way and he is just what the doctor ordered. After all isn’t that what we are tryting to stockpile down on the farm? This sounds really strange to me.

Unless he is the only Met that we have left that other teams would actually want, could that be the reason?

The ship sounds like it has sprung a leak and is starting to go down slowly. This has the making for a “Totally Ugly and Forgetful year”!

I hope that they give enough shelf space for all the “Basement Bertha” items.

I have always wanted to go to a game and grill my own hotdogs and pour my own beer, as everybody will be laid off!

It is possible that he is the only guy that is truly tradeable, but I hope we keep him- he is tough, and can actually miss bats(unlike Pelfrey) and is a LHP-I nice commodity

  4. USMF Says:

Neise, Ike and possibly even Murphy are the only guys who should be on the non-trade-able list…Because they are cheep and under control and they perform and have high potential.

As much as I like other players on the team, Wright, Duda, Gee among others, if Sandy get’s a great offer for them, he should take it. We do have in-house options that could replace any of them.

BTW, did anyone catch Murph’s “box of chocolates for Sandy” comments? dude should start just for having the balls to make that statement.

    When did murph say that???

So now they are leaking out that Santanna may not be ready in April! and we want Neise on top of that!

Who is going to pitch for us Moe, Larry and Curly!

Heck with the box of chocolates, pass me the 12-pack quick!…..Liquor is cheaper than therapy!

  8. El Duderino Says:

Unless we get a ridiculous offer, Niese isn’t going anywhere for all the reasons listed. SA is just doing his due diligence in seeing what he can get. No harm in that.

“As for trade rumblings involving Niese, the GM added: ‘He’s part of our plans for next year. Absolutely. But we made it clear from the get-go that we’ll talk about almost anybody. But at this point that’s all it is, is talk. I wouldn’t say that it’s even been significant conversations. He’s still very much part of our plans.’”
