Instant Replay Slides Down Slippery Slope

Remember before the replay was implemented some people argued allowing any replay instant would be a slippery slope? Well the proverbial slide has begun with baseball’s new CBA allowing replay to determine fair/foul balls and whether or not a player traps a ball.

I not really “pro” more replay in the game but I’m certainly not against it.

But let’s make no mistake it will unquestionably expand from here - prob next to include confirming tags on close plays at a base or on the basepaths.

I’m just sayin’

I think its great! It should have been implemented a long time ago.

The bottom line is to get the call right!

The extra wildcard teams are going to be terrible if you ask me.

I don’t mind the new wild card, so long as it keeps to this new 1-game play-in format. In some ways it even seems somewhat traditional to me, in that it will make the wild card a much less desirable option, and therefore put the impetus back on the pennant race. Think about it: currently wild card teams get full access to the playoffs, the chance to advance in a five game series. When the new system begins it’s much more of a crap shoot for the wild card teams. You get one game only for a chance to advance, so it’s really not a sure path towards the world series. Therefore, teams will really want to win the division, rather than sit back and say “I’m in” as they look at the wild card standings.

There are some good things about the new CBA, but the one thing I really dislike is the move of the Astros to the AL. I hate interleague games and now they are going to be happening all year long. Every single day on the schedule when you have a full slate of games, every weekend game for example, maybe opening day and the last day of the season there will have to be interleague games. And that totally sucks. It paves the way for the eventual universal adoption of the dopey DH rule and the abolition of any significant differences between the leagues.

^Totally agree about the new WC format. Not only does it force the non-division winners to play an extra game to get in, but they will also have to (potentially) use their best starter, giving an even greater advantage to the team with the best record.

Could be the last peaceful day for Met Fans!

I’ve been thinking about this and if there is instant replay then the Yankees will probably lose about 10 more games than they would usually win due to umpires just giving the call to the Yankees when it’s close.

Sorta off topic but…didn’t Rex Ryan get that stomach stapling surgery last year?

Clearly, the procedure was not done correctly…
