Gotta Believe Mets Will Get Chance to Make Offer

BMF don’t buy any of the rumors that Reyes is about to sign or just signed with the Fish.

I’m convinced they’re in love with each other and will end up together but wouldn’t it make good business sense for Jose to at least check in to see what the Mets final offer is?

Even if he has no intention of accepting a deal from the Mets it’s a good PR move for him on the way out to give the Mets the respect to make a final offer.

The only way that goes wrong (I think) would be if the Mets offer more money and Jose STILL signs with Miami … but we certainly don’t need to worry about that scenario now do we?

“According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Marlins have offered Jose Reyes a six-year, $90 million deal”

Looks like we have a baseline established. This sounds about right for a first offer out of the gate! Now I am sure he will wait for a second offer to compare.

Something about 100 million that sounds so much better than 90 million…just my thought!

I really don’t know what to think of this GM and the direction of this team.

Many are saying that Sandy is a real cool poker player and not tipping his hand too early and leading everyone to believe that he’s sitting on Pair of twos. They’ll say that our old GM was horrible and we should blindly trust Alderson and everything thing he’s doing.

Then we got the other side that says that Sandy is leaking information and setting up as the “Met’s couldn’t afford to compete for Reyes” and that Reyes was a priority, but because of our old GM, we have no money to spend.

We are supposed to believe that the team is broke and we have to cut everyone making over 5mil and can’t sign anyone to anything more than a one year deal and hopefully we can compete in 2015 (at best).

I for one am very worried about the direction Alderson is taking this team. I know 2009-2010 were bad seasons, mostly because of injuries…2011 started bad but then looked good until Sandy “punted” and injuries over took then team.

I can’t believe that we are that far off from being a competing team. I can’t believe that Sandy can’t build a team around the pieces we have that can produce a postseason run.

I hope that Sandy is playing everyone and has a plan that turns out a winner. I hope that he’s just not out there to cut payroll so Fred can sell the team or what ever the theories are.

Mostly, I just hope that I have a reason to want to watch this team next year and beyond.

he logic is ssoo simple, a winning product brings fans in, a winning
team brings up revenue, a winning team brings back marquee players, a
winning team brings in players that want to play for the team, a winning
team brings back season ticket holders, not necessarily in that order.
Wilpons really have created this mess for themselves…

I want to re-sign Reyes, but if we don’t it’s not the end o the world. That money could be used for what we really need: pitching and an outfield. If he doesn’t sign, I’d have no problem with an infield consisting of:
    1st: Davis
    2nd: a platoon of Turner & Murphy
    3rd: Wright

For the Mets to keep Reyes, I’d offer 5 years $85 million, with an option for a 6th year. Additionally, I’d put in a clause that he can opt out after 3 years as well as incentives for stolen bases, batting title, total at bats, etc… Thoughts?
