Reyes Good as Gone to FLA

Technically there’s plenty of time left in the free agent sweepstakes of Jose Reyes but if you ask me the writing is clearly on the wall.

Jose Reyes will be a Florida Marlin next year and for a minimum of 5 more years beyond that.

If you’re Reyes it makes too much sense:

• Florida is about to open a brand new stadium

• Florida just hired one of the best skippers in baseball in Ozzie Guillen

• Ozzie is about to turn that franchise around (again). He’s electric in the dugout, clubhouse and media in addition to supercharging that team and town he’ll encourage Reyes to be Reyes unlike here in NY where there were no shortage of uptight people complaining about Jose’s dancing and handshakes.

• Possibly best of all the Marlins ARE NOT the Mets. That franchise has proven it can win championships. They have/had their fair share of issues with ownership and attendance but the new stadium will likely change that significantly.

• The Marlins look like they’re doing the Latino thing right. Instead of Omar’s strategy of signing Latino talent only to hand the team over to Willie “What’s a Double Switch” Randolph Ozzie Guillen is the face of the Marlins and I can tell you right now he’s gonna do it right.

• Miami is going to be a non-stop carnival for Reyes. That might be a bad thing long-term but as far as free agent carrots go it’s a HUGE plus that NY can’t compete with.

• NYC is been there, done that for Jose. The Mets are depressing. Their owners are caught up in Ponzi schemes and nothing ever goes right for the Mets. Miami has all the possibilities of success at their fingertips.

• In case you forgot Fred Wilpon inexplicably dissed Jose in a magazine article and the fans booed/bashed Jose when he sat down after 1AB in game 162 to ensure the first ever Met batting title.

I gaurantee Jose hasn’t forgotten either of those situations.

Quite frankly I don’t blame Jose for wanting to leave.

One off-topic thought here:

WTF is wrong with Penn St fans rioting and flipping vans?

Are they so woefully uninformed that they don’t understand what was just uncovered at their school? Or are they such blind football fans they have zero compassion for CHILDREN BEING MOLESTED BY A COACH AND COVERED BY PATERNO AND OTHERS?!?!?

Either way they are grossly out of line.

really, Ozzie Guillen is one of the best skippers in baseball? since when?

    Bye Bye Jose

  2. CTMet Fan Says:

You are so right. This franchise is depressing. All of our division rivals are on the upswing and we are reducing payroll.

  3. JoeG Says:

Yeah it’s depressing now-but remember when we were an”up and coming team” in the early nineties-remember Vince Coleman? Let him go-turn the page-Jose is worth 4 years-no more than that-if we give him 20 mill a year-when he re-injures his hamstring again and is back on the bench-then what. Yeah, its depressing-but we don’t have a choice right now. I just wish I knew what the long term plan was-if there was one. We have been there and one that with Jose and David Wright too-its not working-it’s time to blow it up and start from scratch-I am assuming that Sandy is taking a Knicks approach to things which means we have 2 more years in all likliehood. I have been through bad years in the 70’s with this team. If Sandy makes the right decisions-I am willing to wait-LET’S GO METS!!!!!!

  4. JoeG Says:

If my kid rioted for Joe Pa-I would drive him out of State College and tell him to pay for his own schooling-Joe Pa knew-he is guilty of obstructing justice and should be in handcuffs too!

  5. Lord Charles Says:

^I sort of agree, Joe. My first response would be to sit them down and make sure they ready every word of the Grand Jury report. If that doesn’t make them physically ill and they still feel the way they appear to, then kiss that money-train good-bye.

  6. dave Says:

I’m looking at the Mets roster/depth chart @ mets.com. Why is Jose not there?!? WTF

  7. KMac Says:

Dave, Jose isn’t a Met right now, he’s a free agent so he wouldn’t be listed on the roster.

  8. Lord Charles Says:

^Because he is not a Met. He is a FA, and until he signs with a team, he won’t be listed on any roster. Albert Pujols is not listed on St. Louis’ roster, either.

  9. dave Says:

ahh..lol…i wasn’t aware that they did that..i thought they were jumping the gun

  10. Lord Charles Says:

^Yeah, I had to check the St. Loo and Brewer pages before I figured out what was happening. It makes sense, but you have to wonder how many premature heart attacks it causes…

Doesn’t anyone find it odd that Reyes, the “crown jewel” of the free agent class, is accepting the first offer he gets? Surely there are other teams who are interested. I’m not believing anything till there’s an official press release. I can’t believe how overly dramatic the fans are being. If he re-signs with the Mets or not, it’s not going to make a difference. I’d love to keep him, but I’d rather spend the money on PITCHING and a quality outfielder. Why spend all your money on one player when the team needs upgrades in many areas. Gotta look at this logically, something Met fans seem to do less and less. If the Mets want to try and keep him, this guy has a great plan: http://blog.nj.com/mets/2011/11/mets_should_offer_reyes_a_huge.html

I disagree with some of BMFs reasoning for Reyes potentially leaving:
    • Florida is about to open a brand new stadium
A new stadium isn’t what attracts big names, if that were true the Pirates, Royals, Nationals would have signed big name players when they opened.

    • Florida just hired one of the best skippers in baseball in Ozzie Guillen
I don’t see him as one of the best skippers in baseball, maybe one of the most angry and over-animated. Reyes will always be Reyes, he still hit and steals bases no matter where he plays. Who knows, Reyes’ excessive celbrating or “Reyes being Reyes” may upset Ozzie and cause a rift. Ozzie does come off as being mentally imbalanced, who knows how he’ll take to Reyes’ antics, especially if he “showboats” while on a losing streak.

    • Possibly best of all the Marlins ARE NOT the Mets. That franchise has proven it can win championships. They have/had their fair share of issues with ownership and attendance but the new stadium will likely change that significantly.
Yes, the marlins have won championships and have had fire sales after each win.

    • Miami is going to be a non-stop carnival for Reyes. That might be a bad thing long-term but as far as free agent carrots go it’s a HUGE plus that NY can’t compete with.
No matter where you are, New York is the place to be. Besides, its not like he can party every night on Miami Beach.

    • In case you forgot Fred Wilpon inexplicably dissed Jose in a magazine article and the fans booed/bashed Jose when he sat down after 1AB in game 162 to ensure the first ever Met batting title.
Money changes everything, if the Wilpons off him a big contract and he re-signs with the Mets, I’m sure he’ll say everything Fred said is under the bridge and he’s happy to stay in NY.

  12. Florida Met Fan Rich Says:

^Met_Maven: Agreed!….Jose has waited all this time to test the open free agent market. Why would he not listen to every team’s offer? This just makes good logical sense. I think the Marlins are just trying to get some PR today because they “officially” become the Miami Marlins today and are introducing their new logo and uniforms today. (They might be the worst ever)

Also the Marlins have also met with Mark Buehrle and are expected to speak with Albert Pujols this weekend, so I am sure they are not going to sign Jose right away until they know what the other FA’s want and give them some numbers.

I am not so sure that this is a “Almost a Done Deal”, as it is being reported.

  13. USMF Says:

Why would the Fish sign Reyes off the bat before talking Pujols? especially when Florida already has a SS? Now hearing that Jose would move to 3rd??? I’m not buying any of this.

  14. CowCrusher Says:

Does that mean my inaugural Florida Marlins t shirt and pullover wind breaker is worth a lot more money? :?

  15. USMF Says:

It’s rumored to be worth three years and $100mil.

  16. CowCrusher Says:

wow…….what is that in Carl Crawford money? ;)

  17. Florida Met Fan Rich Says:

If you haven’t noticed yet, Florida/Miami Marlins are making offers to every free agent in the known universe!

It was just a giant public relations stunt to coincide with the team name change, new logo, and new uniforms.

Memo to Marlins the 1980’s Astros uniforms called and they want their unifroms back.

Good thing you pulled the “Sign every free agent stunt”, so you can reover from the backlash of your fans telling you that you have the ugliest uniforms in the league!

  18. CowCrusher Says:

So has Reyes signed with the Fish?

Release the Boobirds when he comes to New Shea in 2012.
