Mets Make Major* Moves

*Major in this instance shall be defined as anyone with previous major league experience and a pulse being added to the team

Sandy Alderson waded deep into the free agent pool to sign LHP Chris Capuano and RHP Taylor Buchholz.

BMF is all for these guys considering they come cheap, Capuano 1.5M and Buchholz 600K base, and they’ve both got very tangible upside.

Capuano is an ex-below the radar stud who won 18 games in ‘05 and was an All-Star in ‘06. Last year he was primarily a reliever but he did start 9 games so he just might end up in the rotation for us.

As for Buchholtz the guy was a top prospect at one point but now after an elbow injury he’s trying to pick himself up off the scrap heap.

Still though is Taylor can regain the strength in the elbow that cost him the entire ‘09 season he could be a star in our pen.

Hey, in this winter of a Pirates budget in Queens I think you gotta be happy with these guys.

    Arrrrrrrrrrr.
I loves me some lean and hungry players, and let the battle for the infield begin!!!
I think the key is not only for how much, but for HOW LONG he is signing these guys.

    What ARRRRRRR ya doin?
    What are YOU doin?
    What ARRRRRRR ya doin?

p.s. My Christmas wish is for Parnell to take over the closer spot, but it looks like the pen is our weakest-of-the-weak spot so the more options the better.

Jeez …. what if Capuano gets hurt? there goes the season!!!

BMF we need an over and under for how pitchers will be in Mets camp for Spring Training!.. 30?

Which by the way is 40 Days Away!!

The 2011 motto….”You can’t tell the players without a scorecard”

These moves don’t bother me..not alot of investment and they have at least some potential.

On another note looks like I’ll be spending my Spring in Braves land at Lake Buena Vista..some good weekend Met games there that are better scheduled for me than PSL..So Met Fan Rich If you are listening I’ll be there..

  6. Florida Met Fan Rich Says:

^rj: Funny thing, I noticed that they are playing 4 weekend games with the Braves over in Orlando. Let me know what games you are going to and I will come out and meet you.

They have a great Spring Training stadium there.

    LETS GO METS!

    METS SIGN GEORGE THEODORE!!!

By BMF’s new definition that counts as a major move. Keep racking them up Sandy…

MET S 20008-2010: A LOST THREE YEAR FROM INJURYS

METS 2010 OFF-SEASIN: SIGN TWO GUYS WHO HAD GIANT INJURYS IS THE BIG MOVE

I AM GLAD TO NOT BE IN
CHARGE OF THE METS HEALTH INSURENCE BECAUSE THAT WILL BE ALOT OF PAPER-WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  9. Thomas Says:

Pirate budget? Have you compared the two payrolls?

I’m totally on board with the Alderson plan. Every year we spend a boatload of money on that “ONE PIECE”. Which never turns out to be that piece we needed. I like the idea of taking a break and allowing some of the payroll to shed so we can build a better team.
