City Gridiron Kicks Off TODAY

If you’re in the tri-state area please do BMF a solid and tune in to the broadcast TV premiere my show City Gridiron 11AM on PIX 11 - even if you’re going out set yer TiVo!

Now back to BMF…

Tumultuous 24 for Big Pelf

It started with Pelfrey telling the Post he didn’t think the Mets were good enough to compete. The news broke just a couple hours before the game along with an anonymous quote from another player that Pelfrey ”cutting his own throat.”

Then Pelf went out had a rough first, settled down and was cruising until he took a liner off the elbow and was yanked.

Here are my thoughts:

Pelf spoke the truth. I’ve been saying the exact same thing since spring training. His mistake was saying that to a reporter.

As for the ”cutting his own throat.” line I don’t even know what that means other than someone didn’t like to hear that sentiment from a reporter.

But the fact remains the Mets weren’t equipped to win the WS this year and there’s nothing wrong with that.

But Pelfrey is having a tough year. He was slotted in way over his head as the team ace and didn’t respond well to the pressure. He’s shown flashes but no consistency so there’s bound to be frustration from all angles.

It’ll be interesting to see how the fanbase responds to this. My instinct is the reaction will be tepid. Fans generally like Pelf and I think we all know he’s being honest.

A solid W woulda helped but we’ll see…

Broadcast TV is still the “big time,” so congrats on that BMF! I’ll be watching.

As for Pelfrey, I think it’s a non-story, and that he’s a good guy, and not someone with a bad attitude. There’s a good quote from David Wright inside Puma’s article in the Post today about that:”This isn’t a big deal,” Wright said. “We know what kind of guy he is and what kind of teammate he is. I speak for the entire clubhouse when I say we have his back and he’s a guy you want to take the ball every fifth day, because the guy takes a line drive off his pitching elbow and wants to stay in the game. That’s the kind of guy you want out there pitching.”

So, in this instance I have to say: “Go Big Pelf!”

i guess that the critcs who are skewering Pelfrey over his comments think that the Mets below par season is a secret, that’s been held back from the long suffering Met fans. we all know about the Mets having a roster of walking wounded. we’re again being treated to the dithering of the Met Medical Staff (witness the non decisions on Ike Davis for one example) it seems as if we’re back to Casey Stengel’s woeful expression “Can’t anyone here play this game?) which applies to all levels of of the 2011 edition of the NY Mets.

one point of irony is Pelfrey’s hitting Xavier Nady and breaking his hand. poor Nady was having a decent 2006 for the Mets, when Mr Sanchez went for a cab ride one hot night and ended up by first ruining what for him was a career year with the 06 Mets, and ended by never really regaining that form again anywhere. Sanchez’s injury caused a desperation deal with the Pirates, by an unmissed former GM Omar with Nady sent to Pittsburg for a slightly over age closer and horrors Jolly Ollie Perez. which rumor had it the Pirates insisted the Mets take. GM Omar thinking what a bargain Jolly Ollie was forced a huge contract on him and the rest is history. ah memories of what might have been and what really is

The “Summer Swoon” is here!….This team is starting to look lifeless!…It was nice while it lasted!

I have a feeling that we are getting ready to “Nosedive!”…Just lets not finish in the basement!

I don’t think Pelf’s remarks are a big deal. Its just right now there is nothing good or interesting to talk about the Mets!

Plus I still got my “GO BIG PELF” shirt and I would like to get another year out of it! :)

Wish I was in NY to watch, BMF, hope lots of people do.

As to Pelf, management might not like his statement and I assume that’s what the anonymous player was saying with his “throat cutting” comment. Of course his failures are a big reason why this team wasn’t equipped to win. But any teammate honestly evaluating this team would have to agree. Nice to see DW have his back. Coincidentally, I just recently discovered a hole in my Go Big Pelf shirt and had to toss it.

Pelf spoke the truth. He said nothing to disrespect the franchise or fan base. This is a total non-issue. As for this being the “summer swoon” we all knew it was coming, but I think it came earlier than anticipated because two of our best hitters are gone. Three if you count Beltran. I do, however, believe the Mets can get back to .500 by seasons end.

  6. Florida Met Fan Rich Says:

^Met_Maven With all due respect. I don’t think that the Mets are going to see .500 again for the rest of the year!

To be honest I don’t even think they are going to finish with close to .500 record. I thought this team was a .500 team, but that was before all the injuries.

They come off this West coast road trip and have 9 games with Mil, Phi, and Atl.

The cream starts to rise to the top and the other teams fall off during this time of year. Its hard to be motivated when the games become meaningless and your mind starts to head to the off season and next year!

Does anyone know why F-Mart has not be up?

    LETS GO Bufets!

bjake: you chuck out your t-shirts when you get a hole in them?? Some of us aren’t so fortunate. Nice for you, Mr. Bourgeois. ;)

I don’t think the Pelfrey quote is a big deal in and of itself—but possibly fake retort made me laugh. It only goes to prove that no one in their right mind wants to hear baseball wisdom from Mike Pelfrey, who has been a disappointment on every level this season. I thought Ronny was right on when they discussed it during the broadcast. In his day, those might be fighting words.

Good for David W for supporting his teammate!

BMF I hope the show gets great ratings!
