Is Destiny Child Pedro Beato Coming Home Today?

Good news boys and girls the 2010 Rule 5 Draft is on Deck today.

You know you’re a baseball geek if you get excited about the Rule 5 player draft.

This draft essentially allows teams to draft players not protected by another team’s 40man roster. The catch being this player has to remain on the new team’s roster all season otherwise the old team can purchase the player back for a nominal amount of cash.

I certainly don’t claim to have any real knowledge of the player pool but BMF does have a rooting interest in Met destiny child Pedro Beato.

The 6′6″ local kid who pitched for Brooklyn’s Xaverian just happened to he born the day the Mets won the WS in 1986.

We already drafted Beato a couple years back but lost him to the O’s a year later when the Mets frustratingly refused to pay above slot for his first contract.

It just feels like the baseball Gods have given us another chance at this kid who currently projects as a set-up guy.

The way I see it we can afford to carry a guy this season since we don’t expect to win and we’ve got very little payroll flexability.

And if the kid blossoms the upside the upside for ticket sales and PR is off the hook.

BMF: why don’t we sign Blondie’s Jake? Wasn’t he born on one of those world series days?

  2. Howard Says:

How is it that the Red Sox who do not make revenue from a sports channel like the Mets, have a stadium that holds under 40,000, etc etc but can afford to sign a Carl Crawford to add to all of their other signings but we cannot sign anyone of value.

It is hard to swallow. But when Citifield is a ghost town after opening day, maybe the Mets organization will get it.

  3. BlondiesJake Says:

Tdfkabl, yes, I was born Oct 16, 1969. But I don’t think I’d sign with this organization now!

So shood we all chip in for a speall check for BMF? I think it would be a great Christmis Prezant…lol..just kiddin bud

  5. BlondiesJake Says:

How about a Reality Check? I think BMF snapped midway thru the season. Since then, it’s been company line/corporate pr bs posts or just insanely ridiculous stances on anything and everything.

  6. Matt the Met Fan Says:

Do the Mets even know there’s a Winter Meeting? .. sad when all we have to look forward to is the Rule 5 Draft and signing Minor Lge deals for people nobody wants …

Didn’t the Mets have a player that was born the day they won in 1969?

  7. Matt the Met Fan Says:

Looks like BMF got his wish

of course we lose a guy who hits 100 mph

  8. Florida Met Fan Rich Says:

I know we have to ride this year out but we were probably the laughing stock at the winter meetings!

Can any of you comment on how season ticket sales are going?…Would love to know…It cant be going well.

  9. Florida Met Fan Rich Says:

I would think that you would have to be out of your mind to but season tickets this year unless it is “THE APRIL PLAN” plan.

Because we will be officially eliminated by May!

Talk about “Dumpster Diving” we took rejects from the Marlins and D-backs at the winter meetings!…How low can you go?

I could have drove the hour and gotten those leftovers for the Mets and saved alot of payroll and time for them!!!

    2012 can’t come soon enough!

    Lets go Mets!!!

What a crap organization….this mess will take years to clean up. It took Cashen four….I say Alderson leaves before this team wins 90 games. How can you play in the worlds lathers city, have your own network, have a new ballpark and be this inept? This really boggles the mind…

  11. JJ Says:

    Largest city….damn iPhone…

  12. the dude formerly known as bill l. Says:

It’s not that bad, guys. They have a plan, and we should give them a chance to implement it. Meanwhile, they are bargain shopping, and you could do worse than picking up Paulino to back up Thole and to provide some offense against the left-handers. Carrasco is serviceable, and the rule 5 guys Emaus and Beato we’ll just have to wait and see about. Emaus did have 75 ribbies in the minors last year at second base, so who knows….
And then there’s Boof Bonser. Allright, I’m not going to pretend that Boof Bonser is anything to get excited about, but he does have a great name. I can see the post-game cartoonist making Batman like “Boof!” “Bop!” “BAM!” balloons already.

When i faced beato in 05 he was throwing 94-97 major bite to his fastball , above average changeup +movement but his curveball was filthy. Hes huge too, played on the same team as m.ramirez did. The kids VERY good. Those bullpen numbers dont lie hes going to be on OD roster watch. Remember i said it. An if he does hell be a very good piece of the bullpen. Im 100% confident after playing with/ against him for 2 years.
