I don’t expect the Mets to win every game, but the 9th inning baffled me. After Wright walked, the Mets had the leadoff man on but trailed 3-0. Thinking more baserunners is a good idea, Pagan of course swung at the first pitch and eventually struck out.
Then with the bases loaded and two outs, TC puts Willie Harris up. Harris hasn’t hit the ball in months and has as much power as I do. Meanwhile, Pridie has hit well in limited opportunities recently and has some power. WTF?
It’s obvious that Pagan cannot hit in the 5 spot. I would take a chance and put Bay in the fifth spot, Duda 6th, and Pagan 7th when Thole is catching; Bay 5th, Paulino 6th, Duda 7th, Pagan 8th when Paulino catches.
What can you do with the loss? A knuckleballer is going to throw a ball that doesn’t move once in a while, unfortunately, Werth hit the crap out of it.
And probably the pitching change at the last second threw off the offense.
One thing that stands out is that it seems like every team we play has a roster of relief pitchers who all are overpowering. I would like us to get a few of them on the roster.
