Philly Gets Pence?!?

Holy Crap how does Philly do it?

EVERY year they add a lethal piece to their puzzle - and somehow they did it on July 29 the last 3 years running. First Lee, then Oswalt and now Pence.

The damn Phillies are now consistently kicking our ass on the field and in the front office year in and year out.

To me Hunter Pence is one of the most underrated players in the game. The guy plays balls to the wall and is an all around threat. Not your traditional looking big power guy but he’s got enough pop to knock 25 of ‘em out of Enron Field every year so he’ll fit perfectly in “CBPBB” aka Citizens Bank Park Band Box.

Damn I can’t wait until we’re the team adding players at the deadline.

You may not like the Phillies but you have to admire the way that team is run.

Howard, are we almost five out in the loss column now?

  2. GroteFan Says:

BMF-five straight and all you got is news from down the turnpike. Oy!
Let me go to Metsblog, Metspolice or the Post to get my info.
You even kind of kept jake quiet

  3. Howard Says:

Yes, BlondiesJake, since we are 6 out in the loss column, we are almost 5 out. Did you get up early to be the first person to post to the blog to show everyone that you figured that out? I admire the way that you did that.

Well, we did not gain on the Braves but we are now only 2 games behind the Diamondbacks and only 1 game behind the Cardinals and Pirates. Not bad!

I give David Wright credit. I bet that during his time off from injury rather than just sitting around doing nothing, he was studying film of his hitting and has corrected some of the technical things he was doing wrong. Something got him a foot closer to the plate, a more crouched stance, and in position to drive the ball.

6 in a row would be awesome.

    Lets Go Mets!

I still don’t think it will happen because this pitching staff is starting to leak oil. But as somebody mentioned recently, possibly Lord Charles, the sked is quite favorable. Breaking it down:

Next 2 at Nats then next 10 at home:
    3 vs Marlins
    3 vs Braves
4 v Padres (who will be selling off relievers shortly)
    3 at DBacks
    3 at Padres
    That’s a nice run.
It gets tough with a stretch of 3 vs Brewers, 3 at Phillies, 3 vs Braves. But then:
    4 vs Marlins
    3 at Nats
    3 at Marlins
    3 vs Cubs
    4 vs Nats
Out of next 44 games, 29 vs terrible teams, 9 of the 15 tough games at home. Couldn’t ask for better.

Howard, if we win them all, how many will we almost be out in the loss column?

  5. BlondiesJake Says:

Howard, I’ve been posting early for a week because I’m on the east coast on vacation. If you want to give me your email address, I can send my remarks directly to you before anybody else sees them!

  6. Patrick Says:

Of course, it would be so much sweeter to beat the Phils with our home grown guys.

Wish there was some recap of our win. Instead I have nothing else to read about except the Phils.

  7. Howard Says:

Jake, it depends on how many games the other teams ahead of us win. But I do admire you for that question.

  8. Paul Says:

Just remember, all these deadline acquisitions have a price - the Phillies keep getting older and are not going to have many young players coming along over the next few years.

  9. Florida Met Fan Rich Says:

BMF: What a weak post!!! Agree with GroteFan totally! If you need off take it! Nothing would have been better than hear about those guys!

Five in a row! WOO HOO!…Howard you go!… We have caught the Pirates!

This win streak kind of puts us and the front office in a funny position doesn’t it? I was kind of hoping for a couple of more trades to get us younger and help the farm system. But I don’t think it will happen

I still think Izzy and Byrdak could have been traded for prospects, as I don’t believe either will be with us in 2012. I am not sure the “mentoring” of Parnell is worth it, isn’t that why you have coaches?

They have made it very interesting and I so “Want to Believe”!

  10. BlondiesJake Says:

Paul, you’re right in your assessment, but it would ridiculous for the Phillies to hold those prospects when Pence could help them win the World Series. As GroteFan and I love to say, prospects are just that, and when you have a chance, you deal them for proven talent and go for it.

FMFR, if the Mets keep winning, you keep those guys. If not, you put them thru waivers and deal them that way if you can. It’s really not a big deal.

Howard, I’m glad you found a reason to admire me. I’m afraid I can’t say the same unless I wanted to admire your ability to nurse waters at Blondies all night and then not tip the bartenders.

  11. ProfessorReyes Says:

Yeah, yeah, 5 in a row, very nice, great work….. HUNTER PENCE!?!?! DAMMIT!!!!

I thought for sure if we wouldn’t trade for him, he might be nicely hidden down there in Houston, until somebody up there smartened up. DAMN!!!!!

  12. ProfessorReyes Says:

I almost cried AND screamed last night.
    A big Stephen Colbert NOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Anyway, Carrasco is not my fave so I was pleasantly surprised to see him get his 3 guys last night, good on him.

  13. ProfessorReyes Says:

Sorry, his 2 guys, not 3. Just seemed that way with bases loaded I guess.

  14. GroteFan Says:

Still nothing from BMF and too much from Blondies Jake. Let me see what Cerrone or Shark have to say.

  15. Fort Greene Met Fan Says:

Pence is a great move, but c’mon, what about the METS??? We lose Beltran and keep winning? Enjoy at least one bases-clearing double per game? David Wright comes back in 2006 form? Santana pitches a good rehab start? Wheeler apparently is a terrific prospect? I can’t worry about the Phils when there is so much to be happy about on MY team.

  16. BrooklynBill Says:

Eff the stinkin’ Filthies, who gives a rats ass. Hunter Pence is a Jason Bay type (back when Jason Bay was any good - hopefully he turns into the current Bay).

I heard Sandy come out & say we’re done dealing but I’m not so sure. Izzy is a very good chip right now.

Parnell is starting to irritate me. He may throw 99-100 but he’s a very hittable 99-100. Maybe there’s some GM out there in love with the way he lights up the radar gun Sandy can pawn him off to.

  17. GroteFan Says:

    no insight from BMF.
