I really do like Niese, but it’s unsettling to me he when he has outings like this. The walk to the pitcher set this whole mess in motion. How on earth can you walk the pitcher? Unless it’s Babe Ruth, you have to make the pitcher swing the bat. Grrrrrrrr!

  2. BlondiesJake Says:

At least the throwing debacles and hitting impotence have come together to help Niese bury himself. Two errors allowing runs to score. One hit thru 4 against a guy with an era over 5 to start the day. If this is Beltran’s last game at home with the Mets, it won’t be one he wants to remember.

Ball hits the runner…ball hits the base…Pagan throws to a base with no one cant make it up.

    I only 1125 miles away.Does BLONDIES deliver?

At the end of the day, Niese’s line will look pretty good, which is why stats can be deceiving. The key for a pitcher is avoiding big innings. Niese gave up 2-run bomb to Pujols in 1st, no shame in that. But a double to #8 hitter, walk the pitcher, after bad throw, hit to weak hitter and now 3 runs have scored. Great pitchers don’t let that happen. Hopefully this is growing pains and not what we can expect for years to come.

    Well, that was seriously underwhelming.

  6. Howard Says:

Well, its great to see the team come out today like it is the last game of the season and they already have their bags packed and ready to go.

These are the loses that bother me the most. If I am watching the game with hopes that the Mets are still in it, can’t they play with just an iota of enthusiasm?

  7. BlondiesJake Says:

Just as the Mets are better off right now with Bay on the bench, so they are better off losing now and making deals as opposed to trying to delude themselves into thinking otherwise.

I hope this wasn’t Beltrans last game at City. If he has to go, I’d rather see him leave on a loss like that. He’s been one of the most under appreciated Mets of all time, if anything his last game with us should be a win. It sucks that he won’t be appreciated fully until he’s gone.

BJake, I don’t think the Met players are deluding themselves into thinking the post season is attainable this year. The fans are the ones who think the post season is a reality. It is, just not for the Mets. Don’t get me wrong, this was a very sloppy game and they should have won, could have won, but they didn’t. They’re a .500 team and have played like one. With the Mets playing the Marlins, Reds and Nats there is a good possibility they could go 6-4.

The good news is that Alderson doesn’t have any allegiances / bonds / whatever to the players so he really is the best person to conduct trades. He’ll make them based on how he can better the team and make himself look good. He won’t be held up on having close ties to certain players. He did a good job with KRod and I don’t see him making any bad trades.

BrooklynBill, first pint for you is on me if u can make it.

Met_Maven, I didn’t mean the players, I meant management. I agree Alderson likely won’t have that issue and if they lose a few more even the most hopeful of fans won’t take issue with deals for the future.
