Alderson Gets the Gig?

Alderson Gets the Gig?

Late nite buzz broke that Sandy Alderson is slated to get the GM position for our Mets.

This is probably a great move by the Mets and certainly not a bad one. Alderson is a proven baseball guy with enough respect in the game to give the entire organization the instant credibility we so desperately need.

The interesting wild card here is Texas GM Jon Daniels. The Queens born, Met fan bred, wunderkind who just took TX to the WS actually has an out in his contract this off-season should he choose to exercise it..

Whispers are that he sent word to Wilpons through “back channels” that he hoped they’d wait until the World Series was over to make this hire.

But the Wilpons are not waiting and I can’t say I blame ‘em.

I’d venture to guess if Daniels “finishes the job” by winning the Series his chances of leaving for Queens increase - so maybe it’s worth the wait. But if they lose I’d think he’d almost have to go back and then we could be left looking like fools - yet again.

Daniels has built a fantastic team in just a few short years. I understand there’s a newly signed YES Network-esque TV deal adding to the Rangers’ coffers now which means more money to spend on players… and the GM.

With our luck he’s prob just angling to play the Mets as leverage and nothing more. But if he were to return home and  lead us to the promised land how great would that be…???

It’s tempting, but I’m happy with Sandy.

Yankee Fans Officially the WORST in Baseball

Lemme get this straight - the clown ass, drunk ass Yankee fans spit at, threw beer on and cursed out Cliff Lee’s WIFE when she was at the stadium???!!!???

Meanwhile BMF couldn’t be happier because it all but ensures Lee will not be a Yankee next season.

BMF sez 6-1 Lee’s back in Texas next year.

Except that ESPN reports that Lee said this, “I brush that off as fans being fans. You can’t control 50,000 people and what they’re going to do,”

  2. Florida Met Fan Rich Says:

BMF I’ll take that bet!…16-1 he is not with the Mets!

It sure sounds like he is the new GM. Well lets get to work on the 2011 season and get to the real nitty gritty the players.

Where do we start with them?…What free agent if any do we go after?

    GO GIANTS!!

  3. BlondiesJake Says:

The new GM’s first order of business should be to dump Castillo and Oh Pea. Not only is it the right thing to do, it will also draw rave reviews from the fans. The second is to somehow convince Cliff Lee to come to Queens instead of the Bronx.

  4. USMF Says:

His 1st order of business is to bitch slap everyone in the front office for eff’ing things up so badly in the first place…

2nd order- new rule, I’m the GM, nobody else is…nobody speaks to the media unless I approve it and approve what you’re going to say.

3rd, decide right now. Are we rebuilding, reloading or going for it all? I don’t care which it is, but pick a plan, stick to the plan and don’t lie to me about what it is.

Omar did leave with some nice young talent in the system…it may not be deep, but there is some good promise. The team definitely needs pitching…there is no young talent I feel good about…and Santana is out, Pelf is erratic and Dicky is not going to repeat 2010. Do we really want to pay a 40 year old 25-30mil? because that’s probably what it’ gonna take.

How about a World Series thread?

  6. ProfessorReyes Says:

Alderson sounds nice…but we probably just don’t know him well enough yet.
His honeymoon will probably last about 2 weeks.

Listening old timey style on the radio, even after cablevision offers a $10 credit if we buy into the mlb.com thing.
I don’t get it. Fox must get some of that mlb.com money, so why is cablevision offering $10 off my bill if I buy from mlb.com? *shakes head jacobs-ladder-style*

  7. BrooklynBill Says:

USMF - really? you think the market for a journeyman knuckleballer coming off a career year is a multi-year $25-30MM contract??

Come on, that’s Ollie P money and Dickey isn’t THAT good!

    LOL

  8. BrooklynBill Says:

I’m happy with Alderson (for now)…let’s see what kind of changes he makes…will be interesting to see how he shakes things up this off-season. Complexion of the team can’t be the same come spring training.

    My GM to do list:

    1. Hire Bobby V as my skipper
    2. Replace coaching staff
    3. Get rid of the deadwood
-dump Ollie & eat the money

  9. BrooklynBill Says:

    4. Trade Reyes
    5. Put out some feelers for Bay @ the winter meetings

  10. ProfessorReyes Says:

    Sanchez! :-)

    Sanchez……>:(

    Sanchez! :-D

Anyone who has ever gone to Yankee Stadium and rooted for the opposing team should not be surprised at the way the animals treated Cliff Lee’s wife.

Alderson needs to build a farm system. Forget about signing free agents.

  14. CowCrusher Says:

Ron Washington, you should of pulled Vlad out and put in Frenchy…he would of caught that ball to right in the 8th :)

    BT.
Awwww those Skankee fans get a pass for that behavior…otherwise there would be hell to pay…
With a 11 to 4 (9^) score, the check the skanks have written for Cliff lee has just lost a few “zeroes”! ;P

  16. Patrick Says:

I just opened up a pack of baseball cards from 1990 and Ron and Keith were in the deck together and right next to each other. Hmmmmm…..

  17. the franchize Says:

hey bmf I hope you’re right about Lee, but from what I’ve heard, he’s all about the $ and the skanks spend it like its goin outta style. maybe with their TV network and WS appearance Lee might stay put and get big $ in Texas but I could see him wearing pinstripes because as the skanks and their fans taught us, baseball isn’t fun if there’s any competition, so buy the guy who beats you & eliminate any need for strategy or competition.

  18. long lost Cosh Says:

Im happy with the choice of Alderson. He has a good track record and I am most interested to see what he might do about breaking up the core here. They might all look good as individual stat sheets but somehow this group has underperformed for too long to stick with them.

For his first task he obviously will go looking for the right manager. I want to throw a hat in the ring here and hope that he gives Clint Hurdle a shot at the job. He had a good run for a time in Colorado and I dont really understand why his name hasnt come up in any of the searches I have been reading about the last couple weeks.

Fried Chicken outside the Southern United states of america.
Deep frying wings has always been the manner in which most people
will cook them, yet what a lot of people do not fully understand is
that you can make them lots of different ways. Using only flour,
the crust frequently falls off in the oil, doesn’t stick that well to the chicken and is soggy.
