No Sweep For You!

So the Dodgers took 1 of 4 games with their ace on the mound. It doesn’t matter how crappy LA is we gotta be happy with 3 of 4.

Couple thoughts:

What a play by DMurph in the first diving to his left snaring a hit shot, bouncing up whirling and firing to first as he fell down. Got me thinking he really is a thirdbaseman… Until he committed a throwing error a couple of innings later.

.WTF with that blown call at the plate?!? Paulino had clearly tagged Uribe on the thigh while he was in mid-air at least a foot away from the plate but the ump called him safe. Wasted a great throw from Bay as well.

Same guy blew the call at first the previous night. I really thought Collins was gonna get himself run there and was sorta disappointed he didn’t. That’s not a knock on Terry - I’m just sayin’.

The bloom is officially off of Gee. The kid hung in there posting 5 shutout innings* (* I’m disputing that Uribe run) but he fell apart in the 6th when LA scored 5 times.

What was Tejada thinking taking off for 3rd with 2 out and Beltran AB??? He was ruled safe but replays showed the tag got him. That blown call must’ve saved him a tongue lashing from Collins.

What a horrible thing to hear about and see the replay of the poor fan who fell to his death in Texas. After a foul ball Josh Hamilton tossed the ball to a fan in the front row. He caught it but then tumbled over the wall and plummeted out of sight behind the OF wall with his young son watching from above.

I guess he remained conscious long enough to tell the paramedics to look out for his son only to die shortly later from what I assume was a head injury.

It’s on Youtube but just awful to see the little guy in the stands cringing as his father falls.

Just breaks your heart.

Obviously, thoughts go out, first and foremost, to the family of Mr. Stone. But you also have to feel terrible for Josh Hamilton. Here he was trying to do something nice and through no fault of his own, it ends up leading to a man’s death. Would be very easy to blame yourself for that, and I hope he doesn’t.

Omigod, that is absolutely terrible. Sure puts losing a baseball game into perspective!!!

On to San Fran- lets take two out of three from the World Champs- Lets go Mets !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Met_Maven Says:

We can deff take 2 out of three. Our boys are going to be extra aggressive after that loss yesterday! I did predict the Mets would go 4-3 on the left coast, but 5-2 going into the ASB would be gravy!

Tonight is a big game. If they lose tonight, I suspect they will get swept in SF and will be under .500 at the break and preparing to sell. If they win tonight, they will beat either Lincecum or Cain and go 5-2 on the trip and be 3 games over at the half and holding onto players longer.

Lets keep it together boys!…We all know how we can get on the West coast!

Anybody watching? I just turned the game on in the 4th, and am wondering why I’m listening to Bob Costas, etc. on SNY?

I still don’t know exactly what that announcer switch was all about: seemed like the broadcasting equivalent of a “chinese fire drill.”

Nice shot by Pagan over the big wall.

  9. ProfessorReyes Says:

I liked the way they threatened to mess up the place for Ron and Gary.

Not a bad game to be watching, too bad it’s so late here.

great, more reason not to like ortiz.

I take back much of what I’ve thought about Scott Hairston over this season.

  11. ProfessorReyes Says:

Wow Hairston goes deep on Wilson after a very weird at bat, feasting on Wilson trying to settle down. Nice!

  12. ProfessorReyes Says:

I was thinking the same thing, dude, I’m usually annoyed at him for always swinging for the parking lot. Not this time!

Sweet hit by Pagan, good thing he’s fast.

As we drive Carl Wilson from the game, I’m reminded of his classic song:
    “I’m picking up good vibrations…………….”

tdfkabl, MLB network announced the plans for switching up the announcers earlier in the week. I didn’t follow the logic, but I knew it was coming. And considering I’m in LA, it was great to hear Gary and Ron for an inning.

Professor Reyes, what did Ortiz do wrong? He admired his HR too long? It’s not like he gestured at the pitcher, he just styled. If the guy styles at the plate, it’s your fault for letting him hit it out. All the O’s needed to do was plunk him next AB instead of the pitcher yelling and then swinging at him.

Nice job by Pagan stealing 3rd and then Beltran delivering the insurance run. Would be nice for Bay to add some more.

  15. ProfessorReyes Says:

Ortiz flied out. He admires it and shuffles toward first hoping it will get caught before he has to run all the way down there, but when Gregg tells him to move it, all of a sudden he’s got the energy to turn around on the grass and run at Gregg to shove him like a girlygirl.

    Or Evans!

  17. the dude formerly known as bill l. Says:

I also take back everything bad I’ve ever thought about Nick Evans this year. And I just love Murphy, despite his fundamental cluelessness.

Not pretty, but it’s one out.

1-2-3 Frankie, and the Mets beat Syracuse.

    Bring on the Freak!!

Professor Reyes, I stand corrected. Gregg did get him out, after buzzing him twice and Papi nearly charging the mound after the 2nd one. I still don’t see how Papi is to blame and why Gregg is trying to tell him what to do.
