Go Get Grienke!

Word is out that Royals ace Zack Grienke would accept a deal to NY despite his no-trade clause that specifically excludes a move to the BX.

According to Cerrone the Mets could have a match by offering up out 19-year-old SS prospect Wilmer Flores and either Jon Niese or Ike Davis.

If this is a realistic price I say we jump all over it ASAP by packaging Flores and Niese. I wouldn’t want to deal Ike but I think I’d do it. Niese and the prospect is a no brainer - I’d do it in a heartbeat.

The longer I’m a Met fan and the more fantasy baseball I play the more I believe prospects are over valued - especially the “untouchable” ones.

The truth is these kids rarely pan out. And the more the hype it seems the harder they fall - Alex Escobar and F-Mart immediately come to mind but the list is never ending.

So if we need to move Flores and a good young pitcher for an elite arm we gotta do it. I don’t care if he’s a free agent after 2012 - he’s due 13.5M each of the next 2 seasons - we’ve got big money coming off the books after 2011 and Grienke is an arm worth paying for.

Although I will say I have a hard time believing the deal would cost so little but maybe I’m misjudging someone’s value … ?

I vote they deal for Zack GREINKE since he’s the great pitcher. But I would prefer the Mets not deal Niese because he’s shown some ability on the ML level. Strengthen the pitching staff by adding and RETAINING good pitchers.

I don’t know…We don’t have anyone else to play first and we’d still be down two spots in the rotation.

I can only see Ike getting better….he’s great in the field and one of the only few who can launch em in New Shea.

Neise probably won’t ever win a Cy Young, but the kid has shown that he’s tough and can pitch in NY.

Greinke is due for a big payday. He had a monster 09, but his 2010 sucked and he’s been ok-good the rest of the time…but everyone will ant him to be the 09 version all the time… I don’t see that happening. Not to mention the mental questions people have.

I’d rather send several prospects for Greinke rather than give up our thing MLB talent.

I don’t like that deal at all!….Getting Greinke for the 2011 season is going to be a waste because we are not going to make the playoffs in 2011 with or without him!

It’s like we be getting him for the 2012 season only, when we plan on making a run at it! Its like renting a player for one year!

Got my Spring Training tickets for the 2011 season starting Feb 26 vs Atl. and 18 games in PSL!

and the beer here is phantastic.

I’d give up the kid shortstop and Ike. Wouldn’t give up on Neise - especially given the state of our starting pitching in 2011

    BMF,
Looks like your alma mater is playing at the “Death Star” in the “pinstripe (gag!!!!) bowl”

    Go Kansas State!!!
(Yes, I do live in CNY and I despise SU since the folks who run it are a bunch of blood sucking leeches that use tax money for their own selfish gain) They will fit in nicely with the Evil Empire,.

Wow you guys would actually give up Niese/Ike for a over rated anxiety disorder pitcher who only let one journalist interview him after his cy young award, who refused to be on Sports Illustrated cover because he would get too many autograph requests, who walked out on his team mates who only had one great season and after that low era 3.47 was his lowest? Im sorry but he is over rated and wont handle the NY media, keep Ike/niese those are keepers.
