Word is out that Royals ace Zack Grienke would accept a deal to NY despite his no-trade clause that specifically excludes a move to the BX.
According to Cerrone the Mets could have a match by offering up out 19-year-old SS prospect Wilmer Flores and either Jon Niese or Ike Davis.
If this is a realistic price I say we jump all over it ASAP by packaging Flores and Niese. I wouldn’t want to deal Ike but I think I’d do it. Niese and the prospect is a no brainer - I’d do it in a heartbeat.
The longer I’m a Met fan and the more fantasy baseball I play the more I believe prospects are over valued - especially the “untouchable” ones.
The truth is these kids rarely pan out. And the more the hype it seems the harder they fall - Alex Escobar and F-Mart immediately come to mind but the list is never ending.
So if we need to move Flores and a good young pitcher for an elite arm we gotta do it. I don’t care if he’s a free agent after 2012 - he’s due 13.5M each of the next 2 seasons - we’ve got big money coming off the books after 2011 and Grienke is an arm worth paying for.
Although I will say I have a hard time believing the deal would cost so little but maybe I’m misjudging someone’s value … ?
