Why No Football at CityField?
Yankee Stadium is playing host to 3 football games this winter while CityField lies dormant.
First was ND vs Army, Dec 7 will see the PSAL (Public School Athletic League) Champion crowned and Dec 30th is the Inaugural Pinstripe Bowl.
Incidentally the PSAL Championship game features Lincoln vs Fort Hamilton in an all Brooklyn Final.
BMF’s television project “City Gridiron Season 2″ has been embeded with Canarsie and Lincoln Varsity Football programs this season and I’ll be roaming the sidelines of the Championship game camera in hand.
I took my first trip to mew Yankee Stadium Wed AM for the press conference to introduce both teams.
City Gridiron Season One was a 2 hour film on MSGVarsity network. We haven’t settled on a home for broadcast for season 2 yet but I’ll keep ya posted when that becomes official.
Meanwhile the Yankees get all the buzz, cache and PR of hosting football games in December and the Mets get nothing. The PSAL is now building a relationship with the Yankees that will eventually leave the Mets in the dust.
Mark my words NYC High School sports is on the verge of breaking through to mainstream local sports fans within the next few years.
I don’t think the old excuse of damage to the field is valid anymore. Today turf technology is light years ahead of the ’80’s and it certainly didn’t stop the yanks. .
I believe the yanks removed all infield grass and filled the gaping square patch with sod. If they can do it why can’t we? how cool would it be to catch a bowl game at CityField?
I’m just sayin’…
