Why No Football at CityField?
Yankee Stadium is playing host to at least 3 football games this winter while CityField lies dormant.
First in the BX was ND vs Army, a week from today will see the PSAL (Public School Athletic League) Champion crowned and Dec 30th is the Inaugural Pinstripe Bowl.
Incidentally the PSAL Championship game features Lincoln vs Fort Hamilton in an all Brooklyn Final.
BMF’s television project “City Gridiron” has been embeded with both Canarsie and Lincoln Varsity Football programs this season and I’ll be roaming the sidelines of the Championship game camera in hand.
City Gridiron Season II will see 13 episodes as opposed to the 2 hour film that runs on MSGVarsity. We haven’t settled on a home for broadcast yet but I’ll keep ya posted when that becomes official.
Meanwhile the Yankees get all the buzz and cache of hosting football games in December and the Mets stet nothing. And I can’t believe the turf will suffer that much.
I believe the yanks removed all infield grass and filled the gaping square patch with sod. Hey if they can donut so can we.

You mean they can actually play football in that bandbox?
I would rather see a hockey game at Shea 2.0 anyway.

Because playing in yankee stadium is something historic and playing at Shea 2 is a gimmick by a pathetic organization. What would they call it, the “We need the money from this game so we can sign another Luis Castillo or Oliver Perez Bowl?”

Bjake: what’s historic about playing in Steinbrenner’s vain new palace? I have t-shirts older than this “Yankee Stadium”– really what is historic about playing football there? Having said that, I don’t see why the Mets should feel compelled to have football games in Shea 2, if they don’t want to. It’s kind of a non-issue for me. I’m more concerned with Feliciano declining arbitration at the moment.

Maybe they are waiting to get baseball right first before we move onto another sport.
The way the 2011 team is going they will have plenty of seats available in August and September to hold tractor pulls, dirt bike races and trade shows there, because there won’t be any people in the seats after the all star break!
Maybe the should offer a 1/2 season ticket plan for the first 1/2 only!
We got enough worries just trying to find 25 guys that can pitch and hit and keep us in 4th place!

Since I despise the naming rights by corporations for public facilities, I suggest another monicker for the home of our beloved Mets, “Shea “Bridge” Field”…..just seems to roll off the tongue a little better. ……discuss amongst yourselves

The Yanks need the football revenue to pay for their Coliseum.

62,
The place was paid for already via the taxpayers of New York and anybody else duped by such extravagence.
The “steins” and co. are just out for more ill-gotten cash.

I agree with CowCrusher. Lets get the Rangers and a Winter Classic in there.

I dunno, I think the “Icelanders” need some help.especially in the financial area..plus they have the same colors as the Mets….of course it doesn’t mean they can’t play the Rangers or the Devils.
