If Wilpons Can’t Pay Reyes Selig Must Force Sale

Enough is enough already with the impending Jose Reyes free agency situation. There are no 2 ways about it Reyes MUST remain a Met.

There is absolutely NO excuse for the Mets to let him go to another franchise. He’s the most exciting player the Mets have ever had. At this point he should probably be the NL MVP.

Yes Reyes has had health issues in the past but he’s been blazing hot all year, excelling in every aspect of his game, and after a game winning 2 RBI triple last nite he’s hitting .339.

I don’t care what has to be done to keep both Wright and Reyes but the very integrity of this franchise is at stake. I’m no longer buying this bullshit about Jose not being an “Alderson type guy”. As if Sandy Alderson doesn’t love home grown, game changing shortstops, with blazing speed, exceptional defense a .339 avg and fan favorite.

I don’t care what the Wilpons, or Einhorns or whoever has to do we MUST RETAIN BOTH WRIGHT AND REYES.

End of story.

As for last nite Chris Capuano continued to prove he’s our best starter. And shockingly the Mets generated enough offense to get him the win.

And Jason Bay continues to prove that he is a MEGA-BUST going 0-3 and dropping his avg to .212

Bleeecchhh!

Reyes was a one man wrecking crew last night! Capuano was solid again, he’s making Alderson look very, very smart.

We beat a red hot Brewers team of late…let’s see if we can build on this 3 game winning streak.

Excellent win last night against a hot team. No doubt SIGN REYES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Trade Bay- he is killing us- Lets get another W tonight. Lets go Mets !!!!!!!!!!!! Jose Reyes is the best shortstop in the League at this moment. GO JOSE !!!!!!!

    I love this post BMF!!!
    Unequivocal!!!

No question José is The Man, he can give himself the claw for evah.

And there were 2 more highlights for me:

The absolute BEAUTY of watching Cappy get Braun swinging, bottom 3 and bottom 5, both times with Hart on. It really was BEAUTIFUL, both times.

And the extra giddyup in Gary’s voice for “and the ball game is OVER!” There was just an extra-extra oomph to it last night.

  4. ProfessorReyes Says:

p.s. the Mets took a NJ boy, Josh Ake, from Hunterdon Central (south Jersey). He’s a SS that’s been absolutely tearing it up the last couple of years on their varsity, many mentions of admiration and jealousy from “baseball dads” on nj.com hs baseball forum.

  5. Fort Greene Met Fan Says:

Gary’s call on the triple was fantastic! At this point no one will show up next year if they can’t resign Reyes—the loss will take kill whatever life is left in this franchise.

Also props to Ruben Tejada—the kid is hitting way more than I expected and also playing hard with good D.

If we can keep Wright, Reyes, Davis, Turner, Thole, Tejada, Pagan, Cappy, Murphy, Niese, Dickey and a couple guys from the pen, if Johan comes back and we get some decent arms for the rotation and the pen, AND a couple good guys for the bench—we could be pretty good next season.

  6. Howard Says:

Reyes has been awesome and lets face it, the Mets are still giving us a chance to have a little hope for the season.

BTW, even for all I write about the the inadequacies of Jason Bay, I was shocked to read that he does not have a hit in the month of June as of yet.

Lets win a big one tonight and tighten up the WC race.

    Let’s Go Mets

And Jason… How about one hit and even miraculously an RBI tonight???

  7. USMF Says:

I think Bay should do the Mex slump remedy…go out and get completely Sh!t-faced the night before the game and play completely hung over… (knowing Mex, you probably need to do a few lines before the game too…)

  8. BrooklynBill Says:

FGMF - I’m also impressed with Tejada’s play…his game has improved so much from last year. D was always there but, so far this year, he looks a lot more polished at the plate. He has some gritty ABs and is by no means the easy out he was at times last year.

Jason Bay could learn a thing or two watching videos of his ABs!! Seriously, TC needs to think about a platoon situation with him.

Nice win last night!…Lets keep this min-winning streak going!

Lets look at this from the “Right” side- Jose’s!…

If you are Jose Reyes and you are having this kind of year before you hit the “Free agent market”, are you going to entertain an offer just from one team?….Wouldn’t you want to have all the teams bid on you and drive up the price?

    LETS GO METS!!….Next goal .500!!

  10. JoMama Says:

Bay had two RBI opportunities again last night - and struck out both times. This guy is truly more a liability than anything else and should be batting 7-8…he’s completely and utterly useless and provides no value to the team. It’s one thing if he contributes even a little bit but the dude is getting paid $12M+ to hit at the Mendoza AND actually is more a detriment. He actually HURTS the team, which is what’s bothering me. Just sit on the bench, collect your $ and leave the young kids to hit. I hate to say it but I’d pinch hit with Cappy before Bay.

“He’s the most exciting player the Mets have ever had.”

Sorry BMF, have you ever heard of Tom Seaver?…Highest Hall of Fame Voting Percentage 98.84%….61 Shutouts!…..Remember 1969…now thats EXCITING!

  12. David Privler Says:

Yes, keep Reyes and Wright, end of story.

  13. Mr. Met Says:

They have to do whatever it takes, Keep Reyes and Wright, I couldn’t agree more, I hope this out pouring from the fans is being heard by Sandy Alderson, and the Wilpons, and everyone else who matters. Just get it done!

  14. Jack Says:

Keep REyes definately, but Wright isn’t a must. I mean seriously, he’s not even an all star any more, or even a top 50 player…
