Dickey Dominates Still Loses

Man that was a helluva game by RA Dickey… until the 8th.

RA K’d a career high 10 batters and dazzled until he surrendered 3 in the 8th inning. Under normal circumstances 3 runs wouldn’t mean an automatic L but for these Mets it does.

The Mets haven’t homered in 10 games - their longest streak since 19 freakin’ 80. Granted Wright and Ike have been out but jeez this is embarrassing. I’m not gonna get on Beltran but there is ONE player on this team who is painfully devoid of the HR’s he’s being paid to deliver… No need to even mention player by name.

Ugh, Ike is now in a boot for 3 weeks? And we’re hoping to get him back before the All-Star break. It’s typical Mets. Ike gets hurt, because no one calls “I got it” and says he thinks he’ll play the next day. Then he hits the DL and 2 weeks into rehab he’s told to wear a boot for 3 weeks. Unreal.

Meanwhile my buddy is working on a Brand New baseball game called GameSlam - the guys behind the Buckner video.

It’s a good way to test your ability to predict what’s about to happen in a live game you’re watching. For instance what the next pitch will be, whether the batter will single, double, K, etc…

It’s an interesting evolution of a baseball game on the web. And perhaps a cool way for Met fans to remain interested in baseball long after we fall out of contention this season… if that hasn’t already happened!

You can check it out HERE we’re curious to know what you think….

To tell you the truth, I don’t think there was ever a day this year when I thought we were in contention!…Not once!

You just knew that one run was not going to be enough and that we were not going to win!

When you are a crappy team you find ways to lose games like these!

The amazing thing is that 34,000 showed up to a Mets / Pirates game! You don’t get compelling match ups like that too often!

Please don’t let the Pirates of the Central beat us and make us the Pirates of the East!

To tell you the truth, nobody thought we were in contention this year. It’s the consensus of the majority that this is a transition year and what happens in the off season and 2012 will determine when we can be considered in contention for anything positive.

So Mets up 1-0, R.A. pitching lights out amazing, you really didn’t think the Mets had a chance? Really?

Yes when you’re a crappy team you find way to lose games like this, but when you don’t field your MLB lineup and field a Buffalo Bison’s lineup, you’re not expected to have a lead after the first inning.

So, people are bitching that Citi is a ghost town and no one shows up to the games, yet the weather is getting nicer and people show up and you basically mock it?

Yes, the Mets aren’t anywhere near where we’d like them to be. I’m sure 9.99999% of us thought we’d win last night. It’s going to be a long season, and the best we can hope for is to end it 81-81. Sometimes we win against s**tty teams, sometimes we lose. This season is a wash anyway, take it for what it is. There is still a chance we can end the homestand close to if not over the 500 mark.

Of course this is NY and to have reasonable expectations by the masses here is as rare as getting a $2 bill.

Realistic Met Fan: I love the typo in your post “I’m sure 9.99999% of us thought…” That’s probably about right, actually.

I didn’t think that 9.99999 was a typo!…I think he meant it to be that!

“There is still a chance we can end the homestand close to if not over the 500 mark.”

Beat the Pirates and sweep the Braves!….Sure thats realistic!

Sorry BMF I’m gonna pass on the GameSlam.
Maybe it’s the weather, or already spending too much time on the puter; I’m just not in the mood right now to do yet another online signup. It seems like a guy thing anyway.
Plus I try to do as little thinking during these games as possible.

Late in the game last night there was that moment when the batter (I forget) didn’t like the call and stepped out and started walking, and somebody in the Pirates dugout yelled out “are you okay”…. it was such a little league moment, come on lordy just PLAY.

I meant to add that it IS a pretty cool “evolution” and I wish them luck with it!
