Young Mets Takin’ Over

Some days its Ike Davis other days it’s Niese. Thole, Pridie, Beato and F-Mart have taken their turns too but Thursday afternoon our young heroes were Dillon Gee and Justin Turner.

Holy Crap Gee actually started dancing with immortality as he spun a no-hitter into the 6th. But alas it was not to be as Livan Hernandez (!!) singled to end it.

DRATS!!! Just when I was starting to fantasize about what sort of a legend Gee would become for tossing the first no-no and POOF the dream is gone in the blink of an eye.

Shout to Tejada who collected 2 hits himself yesterday.

Gotta give some love to Jason Bay who collected no less than three hits — THREE HITS!!! No runs or RBI but I’ll take 2 singles and a double from Bay any day.

I gotta say there’s something to be said about these hungry, athletic and talented young Mets.

Now let’s focus on the yankees. The past few years I’ve felt like a lamb going to slaughter vs the Evil Empire but this year I feel like we’re so young and so loose we can go in there and take 2 of 3.

Oh how sweet that’d be.

I’m so conditioned to having lower expectations from this team. Why settle for 2-3? We’re rolling, Skanks are struggling - let’s sweep the SOBs!!

I can’t believe you guys said those things - you just jinxed the Mets chances of sweeping the
Yankees or getting to the World Series. Because things that are said on blogs and in the announcers booth affect what happens on the field. Right KMac?

  4. Cowcrusher Says:

In 2009 Sports Illustrated had the Mets poised to take it all and we all know how that turned out…..blechhh!

  5. KMac Says:

You never know IM, you never know :-) Gotta have fun with it though.

Does anyone else have the MLB Radio package? I ask because this year I’ve had tons of problems with it…either Flash is crashing or is just site there trying to run the feed but nothing happens. I’ve called the 800 number once and of course talked to a guy in India reading a script, obviously no real help there. I don’t know it it’s my firewall at work (although it works half the time) or something wrong with my lap top or if they eff’ed with how they feed it and it doesn’t work right.

It sucked yesterday because I got pulled away at work, when I returned i saw Gee was into the 5th inning. I was s**ting my pants because I was gonna miss my chance to listen to Howie broadcast history. Oh well…

I still believe, but I’m just celebrating the wins and expecting the losses…that won’t change this weekend.

I want 2 out of 3. Why not? Ya gotta believe!!!

Out of the basement…next stop .500…begins with a win tonight!

    Sweep or at least MEATLOAF!

Lets go Mets !!! Lets take two out of three- My Yankee buddies are already talking smack. Let the young Mets do their thing.. R.A. has to get better-starting tonight.

Was talking to GroteFan yesterday and we discussed how we weren’t shocked the Mets are 21-22, but were shocked the team is just one game under .500 after starting 5-13, having no ace, combined with injuries to and no production from Wright, Pagan and Bay.

This team was on the brink of oblivion on Tax Day (I said the season was over) and now it’s a fun, competitive bunch. It would be awesome to see the youngsters continue to develop and have that translate into wins, but I’m not going to bet on that, will just try to enjoy the change that’s going on.

Irregardless, since dreaming doesn’t hurt, I’m hoping for a sweep of the yankees, capped by the franchise’s 1st ever no-hitter Sunday night on national tv (is the game even the ESPN game?)

By the way, I’m thoroughly enjoying the arguing between IrishMike and KMac. I think they should have their own section every week to take one issue and argue back and forth. BMF, make this happen!

I would be curious to see the numbers on how many potential (meaning 6th inning or later) Met no-hitters have been broken up by a pitcher.

  12. CW Says:

BJake- The Saturday night game is on FOX, and Sunday is 1pm on PIX. As cool as it might be to have their first no-no on national tv, I would hate to deny Gary the opportunity to make that histiric call. So let’s hope Dickey gets it tonight. Oops, I just jinxed it.

“I would be curious to see the numbers on how many potential (meaning 6th inning or later) Met no-hitters have been broken up by a pitcher.”

Jim- I looked it up and the answer was quite suprising. It turns out it was all of them. In every single case, it was the pitcher who gave up the first hit.

There is no reason we can’t take 2 of 3 this weekend. The kids are alright! The yanks are coming into this series after spanking the O’s and probably think that with our injury plauged team they can do the same to us, I’d love to prove them wrong. Its too bad big George isn’t alive, I always loved hearing his nonsensical ramblings when it came to the subway series… especially after he had to fire someone should the yanks lose a game or two!

  15. KMac Says:

Glad to add to your enjoyment BJake. Ya’ gotta have some fun with this stuff.

  16. BrooklynBill Says:

Victorino to the DL. See, we’re not the only team with injuries after all. Now we just need Halladay, Hamels, and Lee to join him!
