F-Mart Provides Glimmer of Hope

At least the most frustrating Met winter in recent memory is ending on an up note…

Then again with 9 days till pitchers and catchers that’s more than enough time for our bumbling Mets to screw something else up.

But until they do there are actually some positive vibes thanks to Fernando Martinez leading the DR to triumph as MVP of the Carribean World Series.
.

I honestly think people are quitting on this kid without giving him a chance. Who cares that he didn’t impress offensively last year - he’s still a baby in baseball terms and with his injuries he’s got even less experience than he should.

Considering Pagan’s penchant dor getting hurt it wouldn’t shock me to find young Fernando starting in CF opening day.

Bravo Mets for naming Mookie Wilson minor league outfield and base running coordinator.

I’m guessing this turns into a roving position after spring training.

I trust Mookie will advise his young students against wearing sunglasses on the basepaths ( if you get that reference you’re a longtime Met fan)

I still cringe when I see the spring training segment of the ‘86 Mets video.

… but not like I cringed when I saw Garth Brooks wearing the #1 during the spring training he was with the Mets (’00?).

If ever there was an argument to retire #1.

BMF, I can feel the positive vibes oozing from you!…Yes We Can!…Lets Go METS!…Come on down…75 and Sunny!…8 Days…It a beautiful time of year to be in FL!

I don’t think we’ve given up on FMart-he has to play a near full season injury free and show what he can do-he also needs to shut up and not pop off about not starting in Beltran’s place-he’s not ready-if he dominates at AAA then he’s either trade bait for pitching or he will have Francouer’s job if he doesn’t produce. Take home point-he’s still young and he needs to show us what he’s got if he wants to play!!!!!!

encouraging news for sure .. and we need all the good news we can get ..

SO love watching baseball again ..

I was actually very impressed with Jesus Feliciano .. reminds me of Victorino a little .. and God knows we could use guys who play that hard ..

    Here’s a little tidbit

How long before we are cursing this move when this results in a ninth inning go ahead homerun for the opposition.

Wait a minute, it’s time to get positive with spring training right around the corner so how long until that results in a walkoff!

I don’t think that many balls went right over that wall so I don’t think it will make to much of a difference.

  6. BlondiesJake Says:

I also recall the Mookie incident from the video. Nasty stuff. But remember, that season ended with a WS Title, so maybe they should drill somebody in the glasses this year and see if lightning strikes twice.

  7. chris Says:

I am not discouraged. He is 21 and has work to do. Plus he needs to stay healthy. Get a full year in AAA with no glitches, have another “cup of coffee” in the big leagues this September and be ready to be with the big club in 2011.

  8. JJ Says:

Martinez will make enough of a splash to be included in a trade for the one guy that’s going to put the Mets over the top. Who of course will not be able to put them over the top at all. A well run team trades the some decent guys and alot of junk from their system for a player who puts them over the top (remember Gary Carter). The Mets sadly are not in this market anymore.

  9. Fort Greene Met Fan Says:

Joey the best part of that article was the comments! I’m trying to get excited abt spring training but my PTSD from the last few seasons makes it hard. I think once I see Reyes out there I will pick up. Anyway, there will be plenty of cheap tix on craigslist!

  10. JOESKYTHEMETBRAWLER Says:

HEAR IS A JOESKYDICTION FO RTHE FUTURE…………….. A METS FANS WILL BE BAREFEET WHEN THEY A WATCH A GAME BECAUSE F-MART WILL KNOCK THERE SOCKS OFF AND THE METS FAN WILL GIVE HIM A NEW NICKEDNAME — - F-BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  11. John in Athens Says:

    Joey,

If I’m not mistaken, we would have been cursing the extended centerfield fence if it had existed at Shea and stopped Todd Pratt’s home run from going out in 1999.

  12. John in Athens Says:

By the way, how cool is this guy’s job?

  13. JJ Says:

Great news the Mets claimed Justin Pridie. I knew it was only a matter of time before Jeff and Fred opened their wallets and Omar started wheeling and dealing. How many days away is spring training?? Now I really can’t wait.

  15. The Lip Says:

    Mookie Wilson #1.

I love Mookie. F-Mart. I’ve hearing this guy hyped for years. Partially it has to do with the deflection factor. Keep the attention of the woeful farm by continuously referring to F-Mart as the wonder boy. Lippy wil believe when he sees, because I see a whole lot of nothing on this field. Bravo - I’m glad he hit a dinger the other day. Woopidity-do. Yes the apple will raise on occassion. The key to this season are the “if’s” and there are too many to have any real expectaiton of success. I predict a sub .500 season. We’re being scammed once again. It’s too late to solicit offers what little goods we had to peddle. I have no expectations anf am immune from disappointment. I have given up hope. I just want to watch baseball. I’m resigned to losing. it’s too bad, but it’s a waste of energy. nothing will change until the stench is unbearable. I have a sensitive nose and got an early whiff of the repugnant rot which is now too deep to cut out, so we have to await a natural demise of this era. Sit back and watch some bad baseball from the Metsies. Who’s gonna catch? WHo’s gonna??? Well, whatever, they’ll pimp their Pagans and Pridies. Woopidity effingdoo dah. Let’s get it on and get our asses kicked.
