Dear Straw, Thank You!
Thank you Darryl Strawberry for putting these shitty Mets on BLAST for all of us!
You’re a voice that rises above the collective din of bloggers, tv and radio schmucks and all our bitching and moaning about the God awful Mets.
I don’t think ownership is the least bit interested in hearing what we have to say anymore. I’m sure they’ve tuned us all out due to equal parts fear and shame.
But if Darryl Strawberry speaks EVERYONE listens.
Mad Props to Straw cuz its about friggin’ time someone big stepped up and spoke frankly on the state of the Mets.
Straw was the perfect guy to (essentially) issue a public challenge to the Wilpons and the organization as a whole.
And I love how he threw in a reference to the guys across town just to really let everyone know he was serious.
If you haven’t seen it watch the clip. While it may not be as dramatic as I’m making it sound I think the message comes across loud and clear:
Strawberry, like the rest of us, is embarrassed by the state of the Mets, and it’s time for them to get their f’n act together already!!!!!
Thank you Straw for turning the volume up for all of us!
- BMF

Mojo Kitty rocks the batting helmet for luck!

“They have the capability.”
All we can do is get in their ears with positive energy and make them feel like they are a ballclub that can win.
Ya gotta believe.

“Always with the negative waves, BMF, always with the negative waves.” Why not lighten up a bit? Only two weeks until pitchers and catchers report. Already there are Mets down in Florida getting ready. Reyes says he “can’t wait” for spring training, and neither can I. It should be a lot of fun to see what this group can do. They have tons of talent, and admittedly some serious question marks, but there is a lot to be hopeful about. A full season out of Francouer, the addition of Jason Bay, the further maturation of Murphy, Pelfrey, and Parnell. A huge comeback season for David Wright. A longer look at Angel Pagan. Talented kids like Ike Davis, Josh Thole, Jenrry Mejia, F-Mart that we can watch this Spring and think about the possibilities they give for the future.. Hopeful health and comebacks for Perez and Maine.
Off the field there are the changes at New Shea, and the return of the “Six Pack” ticket packages. New retro uniforms. The return of “Fireworks Night.” Watching Wally Backman and his “Cyclones.”
The Mets are not “God Awful”– far from it. And right now, their record sits at 0-0, just like the “guys across town.”
So, to quote Oddball again: “Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don’t you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?”

When did Daryl Strawberry become some exalted spokesperson for all things Mets? I appreciate the numbers he put up for some great Met teams but he was also a relative underachiever, a lazy fielder, drug and alcohol abuser, post season dog and no great clubhouse influence himself.
I can not disagree more with this statement - “Straw was the perfect guy to (essentially) issue a public challenge to the Wilpons and the organization as a whole. ”
He’s not the perfect guy. Actually the perfect guys for that role are Keith Hernandez or Ron Darling but for obvious reasons they can’t go that far.

IrishMike, you beat me to it. While Straw was a great talent, he threw away a HoF career. I could care less what he has to say and I’m sure management is the same way. I would love to hear Keith and Ron cut loose, jobs be damned, and let everybody know what they really think about the current state of this team.
And sure, there are some reasons to hope, but to think this club, as currently constituted, can compete for a playoff spot is pure folly.

I’m glad someone connected to the team said it!!! Whether you think Straw was the right man or not, it needed to be said. I think the FO is either dillusional or they don’t care, I’m not sure which one would upset me more. Outside of starting pitching which is the biggest need, they could easily shore up their infield D by bringing in someone like Hudson who has expressed his interest in playing here. That would bring some toughness to the clubhouse while making our pitchers like Pelfrey who rely on defense, that much better. Who cares about Castillo, sit him or outright release him, he is poison.

I’m just glad the IrishMike is back in the ballgame. I’d listen to him before Strawberry. Where ya’ been, pal?

Bjake: isn’t this the same club, basically, minus Delgado/Church + Bay/Francouer that SI picked to win the World Series last year? I know that seems a bit overly optimistic now, in light of last year’s performances, but to suggest that they can’t compete for a playoff spot seems a bit premature and pessimistic. If people stay healthy and perform as they have in the past, this team can and should compete for a playoff spot. Shouldn’t most of these guys return to form: cant we expect 25+ HRs and 100 rbi’s out of Wright, shouldn’t we expect 110 runs scored, 200 hits and 40-50 sbs out of Reyes? Last year the Phils got basically 10 to 12 wins out of each of their starters. They added Halladay, who is about even with Santana for wins, you can figure, but shouldn’t Maine, Perez, Pelf, Niese, whoever average about 12 wins apiece if healthy? Shouldn’t K-Rod and Parnell and company form a fairly excellent bull pen? Shouldn’t Bay, Beltran/Pagan, Francouer put up great numbers offensively and catch most of what is hit their way? I have little problem starting the season with this club and seeing what happens. Who knows, maybe come mid-season they’ll seize the opportunity and make a huge trade (say Adrian Gonzalez…) to put them over the top.

Dude - THAT is what I have been saying all along. Forget all the “doomsdayers” that contribute to this site everyday and have already given up on 2010.

Hey BMF you might hate straw after this but, didnt he punch keith hernandez in the mouth when they were talking a team picture back in the day? lol we will be fine. Seems alot of people bought into the media rhetoric! just last year people were saying we were lock for the WS. No team would of competed with everyone out, imagine where the phillies would of been without howard/rollins/victorino/4 SP’s/3 bench players, utley out for the whole year?? come on lets get realistic. I give props to omar for not overpaying for molina and pineiro. Next years crop of FA will be nice
