Mets Need to Clear the Putz Air

Sorry folks but BMF isn’t at all satisfied with the public stance taken by the Mets in response to the ex-player telling us what really went down. JJ pulled the curtian back to reveal more incompetence that anyone had ever imagined.

And that’s quite a feat considering we’re talking about an organization as poorly run as the NY Mets.

The Met statement:

..“In our review of the player’s medical records in the acquisition of J.J. Putz, we were aware that he had a bone spur before the trade. He had the same condition in 2008 and was able to pitch with it.  J.J. underwent an exam during Spring Training and an additional exam and MRI before he was cleared to play in last year’s World Baseball Classic.  Unfortunately the spur did flare up again in May, and he misMets Need to Clear the Putz Airsed the rest of the season.  We are happy to hear he is feeling well, and wish him success with the White Sox.”

So they’re not refuting the fact that he wasn’t given a physical before the trade was official.

I’m still flabbergasted that a “professional” organization like the Mets can be so stupid/incompetent/arrogant (choose your insult) as to not give a player with a known injury history a physical.

I’m equally horrified to hear that the team is now asking players to lie to the media in an effort to cover the front office’s own incompetence.

Pathetic.

Someone in the press needs to confront Omar about this on the record. Although my guess is the Mets will try and protect him by making Ricco available to the press next.

    the Mets are Putz’s

that picture has me missing for Shea and longing for a time long ago

  2. the dude formerly known as bill l. Says:

I’ll repeat what I said yesterday: if they knew he had a bone spur, and then a physical revealed a bone spur, I don’t think that would have stopped the trade, do you? It’s not like the Mets knew he had a bone spur, but in reality he had a torn rotator cuff. A bone spur is something that many people pitch with, or pitch through. Putz was always a one year deal: they wanted to assemble an awesome bullpen, with two bona fide closers (Think Rivera/Wetteland) on the cheap for a year and hopefully make their biggest weakness from the previous year into their biggest strength. It was a crap shoot, and it didn’t work out. But Putz certainly seemed healthy when he arrived, and through the WBC and Spring training and into april. Putz is pissed that the Mets, after paying him 5.3 million bucks for a one year only rental(he had no intention of spending the rest of his career as an eighth inning specialist), wanted him to try and pitch through his bone spur. WTF did he think would happen? They wanted their pound of flesh out of Putz and he didn’t want to give it. It was a cushy rehab for him. He can cry all the way to the bank. So the Mets wanted him to get a cortisone shot. This is the big leagues. That’s what happens.

Putz is gone. It’s 2010. Pitchers and catchers report in less than two weeks. Let a dead horse lay.

  4. Matt the Met Fan Says:

speaking of dead horses … How about this stat: From 2002 - since the Wilpons stole, I mean bought the Mets from Doubleday - the Mets are 639-655

  5. Moho Says:

Physicals occur before free agent signings, not trades. It is HIGHLY unusual to have a player subject to a physical before a trade for a variety of reasons. Rather, the teams share medical files and information. So, you are flat out wrong to suggest the lack of a pre-trade physical was evidence of incompetence. You don’t know what you are talking about.

  6. ted S Says:

off topic. What about this trade.

    Mets get

    Adiran Gonzlaez
    Ryan Ludwick
    Kevin Corriea
    Skip Schmuaker
    David Freeze
    Jamie Garcia( Cards pitching prospect)

    padres get

    Colby rasums
    Jeff Francouer
    Ike Davis
Mejja( what ever his name is)
    Shelby Miller( Cards top prospect)
    Ruben Tejada

    Cards Get

    David Wright
    Angel Pagan
    Coery Hart
    Luis Castillo

    Brewers get

    John Maine

  7. JJ Says:

Speaking of dead horses how about Tatis, Perez, Escobar, Matthews, Castillo, Blanco, Santos. Now there’s evidence of imcompetence.

  8. John in Athens Says:

    I don’t give a sh*t about Putz.

    I don’t give a sh*t about 2007-2009.

I don’t give a sh*t about what Omar should have done or shouldn’t have done.

It’s 2010, y’all. Two months until baseball that matters. Three and a half months until the New York Mets come to Atlanta and I fill their ears with as much positivity as my voice will carry (I’m thinking coffee instead of beer that night). Six months until I see the glorious City Field in person with Doc, Straw, Davey, and the GM on it’s field.

    2010, y’all.

    Ya gotta believe!

  9. A Phanatic Says:

so bmf, uh, when are the ‘go big dickey’ shirts going on sale?
