More First Round Interviews? Sounds Like Wally’s Fading

With Clint Hurdle signing with the Bucs Alderson intimated there may in fact be more 1st round interviews.

He’s scheduled to meet with Jose Oquendo, who to me feels like the token minority candidate brought in to satisfy MLB rules.

But who else would he choose to interview? Valentine is still out there but I just don’t know if Alderson would want a power broker like Bobby V as his first skipper in NY. The good news is word is the Wilpons would be open to Valentine so maybe…

Regardless if Sandy is adding more candidates it doesn’t sound like he’s too enthusiastic about the first crop.

All this leads me to believe Wally’s chances are slipping away. But that wouldn’t be so bad if Bobby V is in the mix…

The first round interviews are taking too long. It looks like either:

    1) No one is really impressing the front office
    2) The front office doesn’t know what it wants or
    3) Different members of the front office are fighting for different candidates.

None of those scenarios are especially encouraging.

It does seem strange that after all these interviews, more than I can remember any team doing, that there doesn’t seem to be any progress.

It’s especially strange considering that Alderson doesn’t seem to put a lot of stock in the managers importance.

But that said, figuring out what to do with Perez, Castillo, Beltran, Pagan, Pedro F, K-Rod, Reyes, 2nd base and the to monster size holes in the rotation and higher priorities.

If they were going to interview Bobby Valentine they were have already done so. Him managing the Mets with this front office is like putting a square peg in a round hole…It is simply just not going to happen!…although I wish it would.

I don’t ever remember a manager search ever taking this long. I hope there isn’t going to be a round three. It already is sounding like a boxing match.

Nobody is excited about any of the first round people except fo Wally Backman.

If the manager is not so important, as this front office sees it, then why in the H**l is it taking so long.

Hire Mr. Met, Bozo The Clown or Wally…Lets get this done.

Maybe we are stalling with this because they know there is nothing they can do with the players this year.

    JUST DO IT!!!

BMF - I hate to rain on your parade but this is from the New York Times!! - Bobby Valentine will be doing the Espn Games!

“ESPN waited until Miller and Morgan’s contracts were up to make the change; soon enough, it will announce that Dan Shulman and Bobby Valentine will join Hershiser for 2011 and beyond.”

  5. BrooklynBill Says:

I’m sure Bobby V has an out in his ESPN contract for a managing gig.

I don’t mind them doing some good due diligence to vet out the next manager.

Nothing against Jose Oquendo, but who gives a flying turd about a manager’s genetic make-up in order to determine if they are capable of running a team successfully? As long as they can communicate effectively and be a leader, they should be golden.
Stupid MLB.. this PC guvna has got to stop. Affirmative Action was created so NO one could deny you a job due to your ancestry, NOT guarantee you one. (like any of us can choose their ancestors??.. I think not)
