Branyan Should be Considered

It used to be that I’d never endorse Russell Branyan for an everyday role on the Mets but all things considered BMF thinks the power hitting lefty could help.

.I followed him daily last season after he joined my fantasy team as an April free agent pickup and he was a pleasure to watch day in and day out.

The thing about Branyan is despite his prodigious power he’s really never been given the chance to play everyday until last season in SEA where he responded with 31 bombs. And they weren’t no yankee stadium bandbox HR’s neither. Nah, when Branyan hits ‘em they’re legitimate homeruns.

The con on Branyan is a propensity for a low avg although he did hit .251 last year after hovering around .300 for the first half of the season. Of course I would like a higher avg from first but if he can provide some authentic thump to the anemic Met lineup I think I can live with a low avg.

Plus as a free agent I’d imagine he’d come relatively cheap…

If he’s more of an Olerud than a Vaughn in the field I say why not…

“he’s really never been given the chance to play everyday until last season”

BMF that sounds eerily similar to what you used to say about Ryan Church. Maybe there is a reason he hasn’t been given that chance. I won’t admit to having seen Branyan play much and I know he has power numbers and I’m not full out against it, I’m just saying…….

  3. USMF Says:

Sorry, I say pass all the way…he wouldn’t be the worst signing…but he’s got no glove and his production is inconsistent…

  4. LongTimeFan Says:

His biggest selling point is the ability to play both infield and outfield corners, otherwise it makes no sense when Delgado is available.

  5. MetsfaninTexas Says:

I would rather have Murphy full time at 1st.
Why spend money on a 34 y/o player?
Spend all the money on a stud LF and
    pitching…..stop messing with these near
over the hill un proven players.

  6. Russell Zitsky Says:

You mustn’t have finished very well in your Roto League then, considering Branyan’s 2nd half was “kill yourself” awful in 2009.

    .193 / .274 / .414 — .688 OPS

Please, stop the nonsense with these old “never-were’s”……Branyan is terrible, and that’s been reflected by the 9 teams he’s played on in 12 Major League seasons.

    PASS.

  7. The Truth Says:

    Fact: Russell Branyan sucks.

  8. Hoover Says:

    Hovered around .300?

I guess his 2nd half grades REALLY helped his average….

  9. John Blutarsky Says:

What? Over? NOTHING IS OVER UNTIL WE MET FANS DECIDE IT IS!

Was it over when the Mets fans poopooed a signing of Russell Branyan? HELL NO….

oh, wait…yes…it was….at least it should be.

  10. Russ Branyan Says:

Thanks, BMF — it’s clear that you’ve seen most of my Sportscenter highlights, but even I’ll admit that I sucked ass in the 2nd half.

I appreciate you going to bat for me, to make me look like I haven’t been passed up by every organization that’s employed me for the last 15 or so years.

    You my boy.

  11. Russell Branyan's Agent Says:

    ^What he said.

  12. Russell Ziskey Says:

I am the real Russell Ziskey, and know that Russell Branyan sucks too.

Sergeant Hulka disapproves this endorsement, as well.

  13. Dewey Oxberger Says:

Branyan trained with me last season. I made him a lean, mean, strikeout machine.

    *chuckles*

  14. John Winger Says:

Anyone seen our newest bestest buddy and big toe lately?

  15. Russell Ziskey Says:

He was last seen spying on the ladies’ locker room.

  16. Captain Stillman Says:

    Where the f$%*’s my truck?

    Where - ?

    *WHERE’S* *MY* *TRUCK*?

    Hey, where’s the EM-50?

  17. Francis Says:

    Any of you guys…..signs Russell Branyan……and I’ll kill ya……

  18. Sgt. Hulka Says:

LLLLLighten up, Francis….and have a Hulka Burger.

  19. CowCrusher Says:

.’…..It’s the Apocalypse…….dogs and cats living together’…..Whoops’ wrong movie. but with half the same cast
