I Love Cammy But…

…I just dont think he’s the answer to the Mets LF issue.

Sorry Mike, BMF thoroughly enjoyed rooting for you when you were at Big Shea but I just don’t see bringing you back as the right fit for either party..

Cammy is a great guy, a spirited teammate and a personality you can root for but I admit to seeing a giant walking “K” everytime he steps to the plate.

Yes he’ll hit some bombs (albeit fewer in CityField), swipe some bases and play great D but Cameron is also a classic rally killer with his propensity for whiffing.

Plus I think Mike stills sees himself as a CF’er and would likely feel out of place in left. He may be willing to concede CF for the chance to come back to NY but will a less than happy Mike Cameron deliver less than stellar offensive numbers for us?

Mike has a hard enough time keeping his average in the .250 range when he’s happily starting in center. So the last thing we need is to watch him plummet back to the .230 range ala his first go around as a Met.

Sorry Mike I feel bad saying this and I’ll root like crazy for you if you end up here but I just don’t think we’re the best dance partners for each other anymore.

I loved Cameron too, but but i just don’t see how he fits into the puzzle…

but that said, I don’t think that we can pin any hopes that Matt Holliday will be any kind of a difference maker or be worth the contract he’s looking for or worth screwing up or off season plans hoping that when he decides to sign in MARCH, he doesn’t pick some surprise team that he’s “Always wanted to play for”…

Besides, look at Holliday’s numbers…in five years playing in Collorado…he only hit more than 30HR’s twice and twice he hit less that 20. Compare his career stats in Colorado vs away, there is a huge drop in production.

If you take out that surge he had in StL…his 2009 numbers were very mediocre. I give a lot of credit to his late surge to being penciled next to Pujols in the line up…anyone think he’s gonna have that kind of protection with the Mets?

If the Mets sign him, it’ll be another Beltran situation…Beltran has put up very good numbers and has done pretty much what his career projected him to do…but everyone expected he’d put up bigger in NY then he’s ever put up previously in his career. Why, because he’s in NY and he got the big contract.

Holliday is a good player but he’s overrated He will never live up to Mets fan expectations and many will start resenting him for it.

I’m reading the post, thinking: who’s cammy? there’s Ken Caminiti, but last I looked he was deceased, so I don’t think that’s going to work out too well…. Seriously, do people call Cameron “Cammy”? I must’ve missed that.
Anyway, talking hot stove with a friend of mine and he brought up the following two step idea to start fixing the Mets. Step one: trade Beltran for a boatload of prospects. Step 2: trade those prospects to San Diego for Adrian Gonzalez.
I’d hate to trade Beltran, but it’s an intriguing idea, isn’t it? Then you could sign “Cammy” for CF and you’d still have all of your chips in place to make a run at Halladay. Maybe you could package Daniel Murphy and some of our farm guys for Halladay, especially if Toronto moves Overbay, as they seem interested in doing.

  3. Al Sheffson Says:

“Then again Sheff arrived with a similar rap and he was a pleasure to have in the clubhouse. ”

How much time did you spend in the Mets’ clubhouse?

Why are you ignoring the tantrum “Sheff” (which is much easier to type than “confirmed racist and overweight mouthy malcontent”) threw when the Mets refused to grant an extension?

Why are you ignoring the way he quit after that and claimed some phantom injury to cover it up?

WTF is up with your blindness to what an a*****e gary ’sheff’ sheffield is?

  4. Kid#8 Says:

I think the clown who posted above me is about a week late on the Sheffield discussion but since he raised the point the entire Met clubhouse and management spoke up about what a good teammate Sheff was

I think we all thought he was an a*****e before he arrived but if u were paying attention he was not only our best hitter but a well liked teammate

  5. JJ Says:

Beltran will go on the 45 day DL just looking at Cameron in left field…

  6. the dude formerly known as bill l. Says:

jj: both of those guys would just have to get “The Great Gazoo” big head helmets that Wright wore for that game in September, along with a face mask. “Yo La Tengo!”

  7. Al Sheffson Says:

“I think the clown who posted above me is about a week late on the Sheffield discussion ”

There’s no statue of limitations on responding to outright stupidity.

Why the name calling? Since when is someone who hates Gary Sheffield considered a clown? I bet I’m in the majority.

Do you mind if I point out some facts and hit you with logic?

First, your response doesn’t address how “sheff” (oh god I f-ing hate typing that even in sarcasm) checked out 100% after his dispute with the Mets and despite the $14 million he was getting paid to play baseball in 2009.

sheffield’s dispute with the Mets occured on August 20, when they had about 41 games to go. Here’s what ’sheff’, the GREAT CLUBHOUSE GUY contributed in the last 1/4 season for 1/4 of $14 million (and don’t tell me the Mets were paying him a fraction of that….HE was receiving $14 million for the year and that’s all you need to know…):

    G: 12
    AB: 20
    H: 3
    R: 1
    RBI: 1
    HR: 0
    avg: .150

    “sheff” f**kING QUIT - he’s a dog - GOT IT?

    He’s an a*****e. Got it?

He said “Latino players are easier to control”, so he’s A RACIST. Got it?

He has quit and/or complained about money and/or called management racist at every stop of the way. He’s a malcontent. Got it?

Actually, I think you’re all right and I’m wrong. I’m hoping me move Beltran and thus have some hope for an ALL THUG 2010 outfield: sheffield, lastings milledge, and milton bradley. THAT would make regular visitors here happy.

  8. Shamik Says:

I think Al must have watched one too many Met games this year and gone off the deep end.
