A New York Mets Blog for all fans of the New York Mets, especially former fans of the Brooklyn Dodgers, and residents of Brooklyn, written by Adam Salazar.

It’s OK Not to Watch Anymore

I consider myself a pretty damn big Met fan but I’m having a really tough time staying interested in these games.

I’m still monitoring what happens in Metland but the sad truth is the games simply aren’t compelling enough to watch - especially in this busy time of year with NFL and NCAA Football. On top of that BMF is in production on a the docu-reality show covering Canarsie High Varsity Football’s quest to become City Champs.

You’d be shocked at the level of football being played in the PSAL - Canarsie alone had 2 ex-Chiefs in the NFL last season … but I digress…

Not watching my baseball team goes against all natural fan instinct. I know I should soak in as many innings as possible because I’ll miss the Orange & Blue in a couple of weeks… but I just can’t bring myself to watch every pitch.

So BMF is here to say we shouldn’t feel any guilt about bailing on what’s left of this pathetic season. I’m not lobbying for boycotts but if you’re no longer watching you should do so without any sportsfan guilt.

Oh yeah, and they lost again to tumble 21 games under .500… blah, blah, blah…

How about posting a tragic number for the Monday after the season when Fred Wilpon comes to his senses and cleans house???????!!!!!!!

  2. ProfessorReyes Says:

Woops I put this in yesterday’s by mistake…
You’ve got much better excuses than I for not watching, BMF! I could have waited until today and watched those premieres on Hulu….

  3. ZEe Says:

i don’t even bother watching anymore.

i just check BMF for the update.

  4. KMac Says:

Same with me BMF. It is what it is.

  5. Cowcrusher Says:

I still care and I watch since even with the Fall line up, Mets games can be more entertaining ;)
I still plan to make it down to Cityfield for last series
Anybody else going and kindly bringing the Pepo-bismal laced with Vodka to the game?

  6. Ken Says:

I watched a little of the Mets-Braves game last night, out of curiousity just to see some of Thole. But it’s ok to not watch, just like it’s ok to watch or not watch the Red Sox-Angels game that was on ESPN last night. Neither game is meaningful for Mets fans. We long-time Mets fans have experience with this. I counter it by watching and rooting for individual players. But baseball goes on. In the playoffs I want to the national league to win, so I guess I’ll have to choose between the Rockies and the Dodgers.

  7. Tim in PA Says:

    Meaningless baseball
    October is far away
    It’s still September

  8. darren Says:

Is it crazy that I actually want to go to the game tonight?

The team obv stinks but I have learned over the years that bringing a girl to a game is almost an automatic pantie dropper.

  9. BKtoPDX Says:

There once was a team from New York
and to spectate the fans good money did fork
    what a surprise to see
that our believed champions to be
are really a bunch of dorks.

  10. MeetTheMatts.com Says:

Okay not to watch?!?! Did Brooklyn Yankee Fan drug and tie up Brooklyn Met Fan?!?!What the September Call-Ups is going on here! The only Mets you shouldn’t be watching are the Cyclones - and that’s because their season is over! Get it together, Man! Speaking of Brooklyn, Met fans and the Cyclones, check this out:

We have spoken. P.s… We’ll be there tonight.

  11. dykstraw Says:

it’s been ok not to watch since july

  12. pete petardi Says:

its NOT ok to stop watching!! these are the test of a true die-hard. adam i know how you feel believe me.i really hate to watch them on a day to day basis but i still have to.its mine and your obligation to watch them.when were down 4-0 after the 2nd then i can switch back and forth from the game.weve endured some similar terrible seasons without any type of future success in our sights.at least we still have our core coming back.so what will change from this season to next??we were picked to win the division this year why does that change for next year?
we HAVE TO make some serious moves for next season cause this year this team was terribly flawed.omar needs to make a few moves here and there.if it means through trades (fernando martinez, bobby parnell it was nice knowing ya) then so be it.ill see ya next spring training adam ive enjoyed your site very much this year and cant wait for next year.
    LETS GO METS!!!

  13. Cowcrusher Says:

Can one of the moves Omar makes. being able to re-move himself from this organization ?
    Darren ,,
    LOL on that one….;)

  14. Matt the Met Fan Says:

    watch what?

  15. Seth Says:

One good reason to keep watching: Gary, Keith and Ron. Those guys are simply the best, and always have something interesting to say, be it about the Mets present and past, or baseball in general.

  16. KMac Says:

Good point Seth, and with the team going steadily down hill G, K and R are better than ever. They have to supply all the entertainment now.

  17. eric Says:

hey - where and when will this docu-series air? i played football at canarsie high school. you’re right…lots of talent in the psal.

ps - i still watch the mets when i can, but stopped dvr’ing the games. is that ok?

  18. darren Says:

oh god meet the matts… thank god i didnt decide to go tonight

  19. CowCrusher Says:

    Darren,

A no-go???… you can always go again, the season is not over … BTW ,don’t forget your panties!!
    :)

  20. darren Says:

Nah.. missed last night… I had two free tickets and couldnt talk anyone into going. I’ll be there today though..

And the pantie dropper thing… all truth hahaha. Might be a new tshirt idea!
