Alderson’s Father Killed

In a tragic twist of events Sandy Alderson’s 87 year old father was struck by a car and killed near his home in Florida.

Of course Alderson and his family must be devastated and his public statement said as much. BMF’s extends my deepest condolences to Sandy and his family. I’ve lost my father so I know how awful of an experience it can be. And to lose a parent to the violence of being hit by car must only compound the agony.

I genuinely feel bad for Sandy from a personal standpoint but if we can step away and look at this from a baseball standpoint… it’s really bad timing for a new GM.

I guess the silver lining is that Alderson has already hired 2 other GMs to work beneath him but this still comes at a time when Alderson is remaking a franchise from top to bottom.

Of course people deal with loss differently. While some may throw themselves deeper into work others may be swallowed by depression.

Either way its realistic to think the next 12 months will be a mourning period of sorts for Sandy.

I know this is all unrelated .. and its a terrible unexpected loss .. but can I ask: Is this organization cursed? This team seems to suffer so much personal (as well as public) tragedy?

Very unfortunate, sad news. I think they are pretty much done with the mgr search anyway so it probably won’t be much of a distraction. Looks like Terry Collins will be our new skipper!

Sad news, sorry to hear that!….Hurdle took the Pirates job…. so we will probably get our manager by the last one who is left!

    My guess is Bob melvin!

Why does it take months to hire a manager? You’d think Sandy would of had a few guys in mind after all these years in baseball.

Well…its a process. Plus, teams have to interview some minority candidates, can’t just hire the guy in mind straight away.

Looks like Ike received two 3rd place votes for ROTY! Not bad!
