BMF Media Day
I’m so frustrated with these freakin’ Mets already that I’m taking a quick break from ranting about John Maine’s infectious case of Ollie-itis for a little entertainment!
More on Maine in a moment, but right now…
Hot off the presses, BMF just received the video from my day hangin’ with Doc Gooden to help Modells Sporting Goods kick-off their Mo’sZone and super cool Mo’s Clubhouse at the new stadium.
VIDEO ONE:
(tip: hit HQ for best quality)
When I first watched video of myself interviewing Dwight Gooden 2 thoughts occurred to me:
A- Doc’s Shea Goodbye appearance wasn’t a figment of our collective imagination - “Dr. K” is REALLY BACK in the Met family!
B- Oh man what a DORK I am on the microphone!
Watch and you’ll understand why BMF works behind the camera rather than in front!
I wasn’t kidding in last week’s EVENT RECAP when I said, “I could barely concentrate on his answers because I kept thinking to myself, “HOLY CRAP I’m interviewing freakin’ Dwight Gooden!!!!!!”
And that’s exactly what I look like – a fan so caught up in talking to Doc that I have zero regard for any on camera presence!!! Honestly I didn’t expect them to be filming I thought it was just a print interview but I’m psyched to have the video of me and Doc no matter what!
I’ve been lucky enough to interview guys like Pedro, Piazza, Reyes and others but as far as BMF is concerned no one can touch Doc Gooden…
And they never will.

VIDEO TWO
Meanwhile for a taste of BMF’s work when I’m producing/directing check out “Stars & Fans of the NY Mets” a new celebrity interview show my prod company is pitching to SNY and MLB Network.
The 11-minute pilot/sizzle reel features Gary Dell’abate aka Ba-Ba-Booey from Howard Stern. Gary, who lives in a sick house with a super cool Met themed bar in his basement, is a great guy and a HUGE Mets fan!
Lemme know what you think…

VIDEO THREE
For more of Doc Gooden definitely check out this Modells clip with one of the event producers, Jeremy, asking questions solicited from a team of Elite Met Bloggers!

As for the Mets –
John Maine’s continued crappy-ness is VERY VERY BAD news for us.
Remember back when Johnny Maine was a good pitcher? I sure do miss those days cuz with all these walks and meltdown innings you’d think Oliver Perez was on the mound.
The once mighty looking Met tandem of Maine/Perez sure has fallen.
John’s USS Maine moniker is currently at the bottom of Flushing Bay and Perez desperately needs a trip to AAA.
I think more than any other player with a question mark next to his name Maine can be our undoing.
BMF never thought I’d be dreaming about a healthy Tim Redding but that’s what it’s come to…
***
BMF invites everyone down to Blondie’s Sports Bar fri nite to watch the Mets.
Our buddy Blondies Jake will be in town so come on up to the Upper West Side and have a beer or some chicken wings as Santana feasts on the Nats … hmmm does anyone else smell a “very low” hitter from Johan???
I’m trying not to jinx anything…

Mojo Kitty rocks the batting helmet for luck!

Hey BMF… right on!
April 23rd, 2009 at 6:06 am
That Stars and Fans would fit right in with SNY non-game programming, great job!
April 23rd, 2009 at 6:49 am
Hey just showed it to my son, found our Mets at the Movies pic! Really top class job BMF.
April 23rd, 2009 at 7:56 am
Awesome videos!
Folks can get wrapped up in potentials and what-ifs, but Dwight Gooden is still the second greatest pitcher in New York Mets history and your nerves, as a Met fan, are totally justified. I’m not sure any of us would have even been able to get a second question out, let alone catch his car was superstition.
I loved the Stars and Fans video. Nothing makes a celeb more human than finding out that they love the same team as you.
Finally, there is nothing worse than having the opposing batters hit at you and run on you after they’ve seen you make an error. That’s what’s happening with our Daniel Murphy right now. The guy’s got MLB talent, but he needs a month to learn his position. Show some mercy, Omar.

Orange “SF” reminds me of something….. can’t quite place it….
April 23rd, 2009 at 8:49 am
BMF!!! “Stars & Fans” Fantastic… Quite Possibly the best thing you’ve done. From Staten Island but now I live in the dreaded Phillies Area and have converted my wife and step son to become die harders. Whats the sense of havivng the best set-up and closer if we never get to see them??
April 23rd, 2009 at 8:52 am
Great videos.
BTW, while I was watching last nights game, I realized it must be September already. Where does the time go?
April 23rd, 2009 at 8:58 am
p.s. Must now completely agree with those two tripping to AAA, now, EARLY.
It worked for Volquez, it worked for Halladay. Just DO IT.
April 23rd, 2009 at 9:13 am
LOL @ Corey. Hey, you never know. Maybe they’re getting their demoralizing losses out of the way now, as opposed to Sept. Maybe we can play some “meaningful” games then
April 23rd, 2009 at 9:13 am
PS Believe it or not, I am not entirely too too concerned with Maine. YET. In 2006, when he first came up he seemed a little overwhelmed and that’s what I chalk this up to, he’s trying to be too careful. When he regains his confidence, he’ll be back. Oh Pea will be Oh Pea, as per usual. Whatever that is
April 23rd, 2009 at 9:25 am
Good to see Doc back in the spotlight. Everyone loves Dr. K
April 23rd, 2009 at 10:10 am
BMF: great job on the videos. Excellent production values–great transitions (I loved the subway series train and the old car driving lost past Shea). I thought it was funny that the one fan with the beard who says “I hate the black uniforms” is himself wearing a Mets black uniform shirt. Lots of great memories of banner day and baseball cards and everything Mets–Good luck on the pitch to SNY. HOw great would that be?
Doc looks so cool on those interviews–perhaps he’d consider a comeback. Love the way respond to every one of Doc’s answers “Right On. I like it.”
Thanks for giving us something to talk about other than last night’s game.
April 23rd, 2009 at 10:18 am
Tim Redding!!!! Ha Ha! I thought the same thing last night. If they keep pitching like this, there will be no need to worry about a collapse because Septmeber games will be a time to watch Gee or Niese on the hill in a non pressure situation. It’s is getting close to the time where you take away a start from Maine or Perez, see if it does anyhting.
Can’t watch the vids at work so I’ll check em out later.
Hmmm… Blondies on Friday night??? Do I risk being hungover for my first game ever at city field on Saturday???
April 23rd, 2009 at 10:30 am
Look at the bright side from last night:
1) A starting pitcher (other than Santana) made it to the sixth inning;
2) Murph got to every catchable ball in left and stayed on his feet the whole game;
3) Everyone slid when they were supposed to and went in standing up when they were supposed to.
Now if Omar can sign Amanda Whurlitzer and Kelly Leak we’ll be in business…
April 23rd, 2009 at 10:36 am
if Omar signs them you know what that means? Bad news for the national league!!!
April 23rd, 2009 at 10:43 am
A) Congrats on wearing the Bad News Bears jersey for the day you interviewed Doc. Did you ask him if he had Chico’s Bail Bonds get him out of jail when he was arrested?
2) Tremendous videos… can’t wait until Stars & Fans is on tv!
D) Can’t wait until Friday night. Beers on Matt the Met Fan all night long unless you root for Syracuse, in which case you get to help pay the tab!
April 23rd, 2009 at 10:49 am
It seems the only good thing about last night’s game is this: The NY Rangers won game 4 of their joust with the Capitals and have taken a 3-1 lead in the series. Far more captivating than watching the slow descent of this Mets squad.
I just wonder what Jerry’s saying to his team outside of the media’s earshot. Is he getting pissed? Is he keeping cool? How the hell do you manage a bunch of over-payed “superstars” who receive their checks whether they win or not?
That’s the difference between this team and the `86 crew. It’s clear they’re not internally psyched to win. All the post-game, club house blather is just that; something to spew until the scrum moves on to their next target.
Not looking good kids…

Helix - you’re a good dude, but this surprises you…how? Carlos Beltran is the prototypical “this is a jay-oh-bee to me” player. These guys (save David Wright MAYBE) don’t care if they win or lose. I think Kevin McReynolds had it right all along. He wins either way - he gets to play in the postseason, or gets to hunt. Substitute: golf, screwing hot chicks, smoking weed, or lounging on a boat in the Caribbean. Again - problem solved!
April 23rd, 2009 at 11:03 am
With all due respect - “golf, screwing hot chicks, smoking weed, or lounging on a boat in the Caribbean” sound a lot better to me than freezing my tail off on an October night in NY. Me thinks they have the right idea.
April 23rd, 2009 at 11:11 am
You know what, Sam. I stand corrected. You win!
April 23rd, 2009 at 11:36 am
As Tug McGraw famously said about his salary: “Ninety percent I’ll spend on good times, women and Irish Whiskey. The other ten percent I’ll probably waste.”
April 23rd, 2009 at 12:39 pm
I hear ya’ Coop. Since it’s obvious, these guys’ performance should come as no surprise.
What’s infuriating to blue-collar Met fans is the amount of hard-earned money spent on tickets, Met goo & concessions (especially in this economy), yields no apparent commitment, desire or will to win from the recipients of that money.
April 23rd, 2009 at 1:16 pm
Helix: I don’t get the “no apparent commitment, desire or will to win” thing. Or maybe I get it but I don’t agree with it. Look– the Rangers sucked for a long stretch this season. Did that mean that they had no commitment, desire, etc. or only that they were in a rut, got bad breaks, etc. I just think it’s too early to tell about this Mets club, that’s all. Coop may think Beltran is the typical “just a jay-oh-bee” player, but he did play 160 games last year. He did come back early from the collision with Cameron a few years back and play out there with a broken face, so it’s not like he lacks desire and intensity. I was among all of us who couldn’t believe that he didn’t slide the other night, but I’m not going to go so far as to say as somebody did yesterday, that that single play negated everything he had done for the season. Look, Murphy messed up–he also didn’t slide in the fourth inning, when to do so might have meant a run, but I don’t see people saying that he doesn’t care. My point is only that I’m not ready to indict the character of this club every time they don’t win. Let’s see how good they are first–and if they don’t win then it will be easy to say they didn’t care about winning, but perhaps they aren’t talented enough to win as much as we would like them to. Who knows, I’m rambling as usual. I just think that they are not playing well now, and I’ll just leave it at that. Perhaps it’s their character flaws, perhaps it’s bad luck, perhaps they aren’t as talented as we had hoped. Who knows?
April 23rd, 2009 at 1:17 pm
Who are we to judge who cares about winning or not? Has anyone ever met any of these guys and actually gotten to know them? Just because a guy doesn’t throw a LoDuca or O’Neil type hissy-fit on the field, doesn’t mean he doesn’t care…
wait, maybe they should start killing rally’s by looking at strike three every night and then just stand there and calmly take off there gloves and gently toss their bat and helmet to the side and walk to the field.
April 23rd, 2009 at 2:32 pm
This is awesome
Doc’s got a lil pot belly but aside from that he’s still the man!!!
April 23rd, 2009 at 2:47 pm
I love Beltran defeatists. I do. OOH he came back from a face injury in San Diego. That was five years ago. Save last year (which surprisingly we didn’t hear about his 98.2% wellness chart), how many times did he F this team over by not playing or not DL’ing or poochie-ing out by using the whole percentage wellness scale? Look, I like Beltran, I want to see him succeed and I even predicted he would be MVP on my site (if only to make myself into the prognosticator I think I am). But to say he doesn’t view this is as merely a jay-oh-bee is absurd. They all do. Don’t be fooled.
April 23rd, 2009 at 3:45 pm
Coop: still, he is batting .400.
April 23rd, 2009 at 10:31 pm
BMF,
great job with the video..especially with Bababooey..He has a point about the yankee fans..especially Artie Lange..who would defend the “Billion Dollar Batting Cage” that we saw last weekend.
April 23rd, 2009 at 10:51 pm
TDFKABL,
I hear ya’ bro, and I wish I wasn’t so down on this team but nearly 3 years of evidence makes my case. I’m just not seeing a whole lot of difference between this team and the crew that lost Willie his job.
Besides, I’m not the only one with this observation. Listen to the comments emerging from in-studio SNY staff as well as “The Shmooze” Steve Somers. So far, this team is too nice, too staid or too content to compete in this division.
Perhaps some time spent in the basement will do them some good.

Highly impressed, found your page on Ask.Glad I finally tested it out. Not sure if its my Firefox browser, but sometimes when I visit your site, the fonts are really tiny? Anyway, love your page and will return.See Ya

I was reading something else about this on another blog. Interesting. Your linear perspective on it is diametrically opposed to what I read to begin with. I am still contemplating over the opposite points of view, but I’m inclined to a great extent toward yours. And no matter, that’s what is so superb about modernized democracy and the marketplace of ideas on-line.

This site is great I’m gonna put this in my bookmarks before I lose the link I don’t think I’ll ever make it back here otherwise
