A New York Mets Blog for all fans of the New York Mets, especially former fans of the Brooklyn Dodgers, and residents of Brooklyn, written by Adam Salazar.

Did Fan Rally for Manny Hurt the Cause?

I hate to say it, cuz I love this kind of stuff, but Thursday’s spontaneous fan rally outside SNY studios may have hurt the quest to land Manny more than it helped.

.BMF means no disrespect to the gang of fans who stormed the glass outside SNY studios during the Hot Stove Report. In fact they kicked ass coming armed with signs, dreads, and even a #24 Ramirez Met jersey as they chanted demands for Manny.

Major props to the organizers cuz a fan base taking it to the streets like that was an unprecedented move, even in this city. Seeing that buzz from fellow Met fans is awesome cuz we all know yankee fans would never care this much in January.

But I still think the protest may have been misguided.

Omar’s not a villan here. I promise you Minaya would like nothing more than to slot Ramirez into the middle of this lineup, but it simply comes down to money. Actually BMF is no longer sure the Wilpons are against signing him, but I know they’re not looking to fork over 75-100M bucks this off-season. And quite frankly I don’t blame ‘em.

But if we can somehow get Manny for 2 years at 18-20 per I think they might jump at it. Except for the price to deflate that much the negotiations have to break just right for Omar.

.

Therefore I’d imagine Omar can’t be the least bit amused by this sudden public outcry for the slugger.

Talk about taking on friendly fire in a negotiation process – ouch! Omar just took one in the back from his own fanbase and network.

Maybe it’s just cuz BMF is a paranoid freak but I wouldn’t put it past Boras to have paid a couple of guys to start a guerilla pr campaign for Manny.

I mean can anyone verify that the guy in the Ramirez jersey is actually a Met fan???

But despite all the negotiation concerns the fan in BMF would still get a huge kick out of seeing more people show up for Friday night’s broadcast. Or maybe they rally the troops over the weekend and come back 100 deep on Monday all screaming for Manny.

It’d definitely be bad for negotiations but it sure would be cool to see.

  1. Delgado's Dump Says:

    Weak argument dude.

    Squeeky wheel gets the grease..

There is no way Boras paid some guys to stage that Mr. Mel Gibson…and who care’s if he did.

How does Boras Esq. get away with conflict of interest? Attorneys just can’t eat where they Dump and this representative of the court is doing like a pro.

They should just sign a b squad pitcher and get this dreaded fool. oh wait Perez is the B squad

    Okay just get the c-squad.

I say just get wolf. Manny’s bat will make up for it. Is Perez really worth more than Manny? Get real.

The Esq. is holding Perez over balcony like a Knight on Ice.

He could care less about Perez, it’s Manny that Boras wants.

If you think about it, Manny would require less years than Perez. He Would play like at least four more days a week than Perez.

If we get wolf on the cheap, we take the pressure off getting Perez and then Get Manny who will move it along. Plus there are bats out there..

Right now Perez is sitting like a stupid duck. Screw him. Where is he gonna go?

Manny is the squeaky wheel. You know he wont hold out. Epecially if the Market is the Dodgers and the Giants.

Seriously, if perez goes somewhere else in th NL he will do less damage against the Mets than Manny in the NL.

    Get Wolf. Release the Pressure.

Apply the Pressure on Boras with Manny because the Mets could have other options.

I know it sounds crazy but I think this is the best way to break up that conflict of interest that the attorney has with his clients and the teams involved.

Plus I only say wolf because he is comparable to Perez. If you dont think so, you are kind of dilusional. Those two are really not that black and white.

If it was Me I would gamble a lot more and Bet on Sheets and Manny.

    Bring on the loose canon.

  2. Delgado's Dump Says:

Mark my words if we dont takes risks to get Manny, it will come back and bite us in the ass.

  3. Delgado's Dump Says:

Oh another thing.. I should just say this all at once but it is late…

What happens if the Dodgers get Wolf? With Garland gone…and basically Sheets, Pedro and Perez Left.. Boras has the balls in the vice with perez doing the turning.

Boras is going to keep waiting till those dudes are off the market.

Seriously, If the mets do not do something soon, this is really going to get ugly.

  4. The Lip Says:

This is great. WHo cares if it hurts the Mets? They’re hurting us fans by not doing what is necessary to win. Agreed it’s not Omar’s fault. He was thrown under the bus by Jeff Wilpon.

It’s simple: just f–king sign Ramirez. The Mets are in real danger of alienating thier fans even more than they already have. They were pertubed by the boos last year - it will pale in comparison to what will happen if they sign Perez and PEDRO (are they freakin’ serious?!!!) and call it a day. No onee wnats to see another September like the last 2.

The owners have an oportunity here to reallly wipe the slate clean and if they will let a copule million bucks stand in the way, I don;t know what.
There are a lot of bitter fans out there right now and signing Manny would appease them.

    Just do it already.

  5. John in Athens Says:

Ahhh, if anything, I think it would HELP the cause because Manny will want to have a good time where he goes and the rally was proof that Mets fans want to have a good time with Manny!

    Now I’m in.

    Let’s get Manny.

  6. JJ Says:

This Manny, Perez, Sheets, Perdo drama has more excitement than a Mets - Pirates game in mid July, and it lasts longer. Hopefully nobody will sign for a few weeks as this is getting kind of fun.

  7. Sam in North Cakalakey Says:

I’d rather sign Sheets than Wolf to put the pressure Bore-ass. At least with Sheets you get a #1-2 guy when he pitches, Wolf is at best a 4 and that would put a lot of pressure on the pen for the year, AGAIN! I love Manny, but pitching is still the first thing on the list.

Come on Bore-ass, give us a BOGO!!!

  8. Frankie Says:

Awful awful argument… are you serious????

  9. Phil Bak Says:

Post makes no sense. The Mets need to satisfy their customers; the customers need to let them know what they want.

    Manny! Manny! Manny!

  10. dykstraw Says:

having been there and talked to the guy, i’m pretty sure manny jersey guy is pretty bonafide

i didn’t check his background and give him a blood test…maybe i will when they start making mets caps in tin foil ; )

(plus the guys who organized told me what forum they were from…though i don’t recall now)

  11. USMF Says:

This all comes down to Bore-Ass…I’m not saying that he’s wrong in what he’s trying to do…but until Oh’Pea signs…then Manny, Wolf, Sheets and Pete are up in the air…

The more I look at it, I’d rather have O say Sheets…he’s a 2 year deal for 6mil+ incentives and a 3rd year option for 10+…while at the same time go to Oh’Pea and say 11mil 3 years or 10mil 3 years + an option…

Who ever calls back first to accept gets the deal…

Compare…you got an Ace who runs into several various injuries who still pitched more innings (and a ton more quality innings) Than a healthy Oh’Pea, who led the league in Walks and Fly ball ratio…

The only this the Left handed Victor Zambrainless has going for him is he’s Left handed and hasn’t been hurt in a few years…

I have no problem signing Pete for the 5th spot…we got protection if he gets hurt…plus i think his post surgery workouts (that got him in the best shape of his life) is what caused him to get hurt early in the season and his fathers death took him out of the game mentally….I really think he can bounce back and have a solid year…Watching pitch last year…he had velocity, he hit 90s, but his control was all over which made him pull back and start aiming the ball…

As for Manny…I think it comes down to breaking the luxury tax level…The Wilpons don’t want to break it…I say do it for one year, once LosD and Wags salary comes off the books we’d be back down below the LT. We also got a solid core for 3-4 years built and some good young talent in Murph, Evans and F-Mart to fill in at 1st and right…who cares about signing Matt Holliday…we can sit on what we got for a few years…

  12. Delgado's Dump Says:

“This all comes down to Bore-Ass…I’m not saying that he’s wrong in what he’s trying to do…but until Oh’Pea signs…then Manny, Wolf, Sheets and Pete are up in the air…”

    How does this make sense?

Wolf and sheets are rep. by someone else?

Why does can’t those two move us perez signs?
(yes yes, I know how cuz they are pitchers but.. they are not mutually exculsive like perez and manny)

Those guys could very well sign by some other teams and Perez could still be left of the table..

I do agree with a certain number and whomever calls back….

  13. wsbound phils Says:

sams got the idea. whats wrong with you guys. fashionable players get you no where. i wouldnt mind the mets signing a guy you can pitch around 4 times a game. as a division foe, ill take that over a dominating staff for a three game series. think positively not desperatly.

  14. Fort Greene Met Fan Says:

Trust me, if Boras was behind this the signs would be professionally painted and the people would be much more attractive.

  15. USMF Says:

Wolf and Sheets both know that the Mets need at least one SP…they won’t sign any deal without first knowing that the Mets are out of the bidding for them and trying to base their contract off of what Oh’Pea is willing to get…

Why would Wolf and Sheets accept 1 year 6mil if Oh’Pea gets 3-4 years 40-50mil??? Is Perez deserve any more than either of them??? i can’t say he does…

…but it does come to a point where the get sick of waiting…Garland was holding for a better deal and finally got tired of waiting or worried that he’d be with out a job and accepted a 1 year deal with a pay cut….

  16. schmifty Says:

I wonder if this is going to start a tradition of rallies outside SNY studios?

    We should have a BMF-organized rally! :)

  17. Sanchez Says:

I don’t it’s as simple as “sweaky wheel gets the oil”

It’s a nice idea that a billion dollar operation like the Mets would base their biz decisions on 30 or so fans on a sidewalk but that’s a fantasy

Unfortunatey if the street rally grows into hundreds of skweaky met fans everyday out there the happist guy going will be Bore-ass since he will finally have the negotiating tool he needs to either get the Mets in on the action or bluff the dodgers into outbidding themselves

  18. Derek Hoban Says:

Hahaha, Manny jersey dude is THE REAL DEAL!!! Believe it, bitches. In a Mets-loving contest he will pull his blue, white & orange dong out and shove it in your mouths, and you’ll all gag on his HoJo-scented spooge. HE’S GOT A JERSEY FROM A DUDE THAT’S NOT EVEN ON THE TEAM!!! A your base are belong to him!

  19. Cory Lidle's Corpse Says:

    Sign me!

  20. Jim Says:

“Omar took one in the back”

Are you serious? C’mon bro, you gotta do better than this.

Met fans have been taking it in the pooper for years, maybe its time to just say “enough”.

  21. Sam in North Cakalakey Says:

    Lidle has a dead arm.

  22. Cowboys & Angels! Says:

Hey fellas, I know this might not be a popular idea, but what about [drum roll please!]… BARRY BONDS! I bet he’s a tidy little bargain ($5M for one year? $8M for two), still hits a baseball with wonderful skill, is a scootch better than Manny defensively, and guarantees headlines! Think about it…

  23. Sam in North Cakalakey Says:

He won’t be able to run the bases with shackles on his legs.

  24. Joesky the Met brawler Says:

I THINK AS MET FANS WE HAVE TO TAKE DRASTIC MEASURES TO GET MANNY AND I WISH I WOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS EARLIER BEACAUSE I WOULD HAVE BEEN THERE FRONT AND CENTER. FOR THOSE OF US THAT CARE AND HAVE THE TIME, I PROPOSE WE GO RIGHT BACK THIS THURSDAY DURING METS “COLD STOVE” AND BRING THE ISSUE OF THE FRUGAL WILPONS TO THE FOREFRONT. THERE WERE NO SHORTAGE OF HIGH END VEHICLES ON THE PARKING SPOTS MARKED FOR BOTH OF THE WILPONS IN FRONT OF SHEA LAST SEASON. I HAD SEASON TICKETS AND THE CHANCE OF ME SEEING THE SAME CAR TWICE WERE SMALL AND THE LEAST EXPENSIVE OF THE GROUP WAS A RANGE ROVER WHICH WAS NEW. IF TIMES WERE THAT FISCALLY TOUGH THEN THEY SHOULD SELL THE TEAM!!!! MY OFFER STANDS. NEXT WEEK I WILL BE OUTSIDE OF SNY STUDIOS WITH A COOLER OF BREW (WEATHER PERMITTING). FOLLOW ME…

  25. Feltch Straws Says:

Forget Barry. I saw where Kevin McReynolds played in the Independent League last year and he was stroking it. He was the best OF we had since Willie. And Rickey wants to still play. We could use some of his speed. Bring back Rickie and Big Mac and we’re right there with Atlanta. And that dude in the Mets jersey is definitely a Mets fan. Anyone who dresses that hideously and poses for the camera has to be a Mets fan. I’ll bet he likes WWF too.

  26. wsbound phils Says:

    sign obama.

    hope

  27. Alex Cora Fan Says:

I wish I could have gone and pimped my new Cora jersey!

  30. darren Says:

Outside with a cooler? Good luck on the open container ticket moron.

  31. leadfarmer Says:

that dude in the jersey is a joke. look at him carefully and you will see he is a wine sipping Yankees fan just trying to stir up trouble. I bet he pretended to love pedro too.

  32. Joesky the Met brawler Says:

HEY DARREN YOU THINK I GIVE A s**t ABOUT THE LAW!?!?!? I WILL GET STINKIN DRUNK 24/7 WHENEVER AND WHEREVER THE f**k I PLEASE. I HOPE YOU SHOW UP I GOT A LITTLE MAGIC TRICK FOR YOU WHERE I REACH INTO YOUR TURDCUTTER AND PULL YOUR DICK OUT THROUGH YOUR a*****e. OR MAYBE YOU GOT A LITTLE p***y INSTEAD.

  33. BlondiesJake Says:

Maybe we should send Joesky the Met brawler to the Wilpons house to threaten them if they don’t direct Omar to sign Manny!

BMF, you know we love you, but YOU SOUND LIKE THE LIP TODAY WITH YOUR RIDICULOUS THEORY! A public show of love for Manny is definitely not a bad thing. Heck, if there are rallies every day and more and more people show up, it might even provoke management to act.

Even better, somebody needs to create a site (or do the calculations on here and post it on all the other Mets blogs) that calculates the dollars Manny would bring in terms of expected additional ticket sales (packages and nightly walk-up), jerseys/t-shirts and other Manny swag, Hispanic marketing revenue, playoff game ca$h, etc. and jam it under management’s nose so they see he’s not just good for the team and the fans, but good for their bottom line as well.

I’M STAYING ON JOESKY’S GOOD SIDE!
    SIGN MANNY!
    MANNY WILL CURE THE ILLS!

  34. WWMD Says:

Manny saves pets in danger. Manny makes sad babies smile. Manny makes trains run on time. Manny makes the sun set and the moon rise. Manny once walked up to John Rocker and bitchslapped him. Manny once made Chipper Jones not get a clutch hit against our putrid bullpen. Manny can cure cancer.

SIGN MANNY NO MATTER WHAT FRED AND OMAR. I’VE GOT MY MANNY WIG. I’VE GOT MY MANNY JERSEY. I WILL STAND IN FRONT OF MY TV AND SWING LIKE MANNY FOR EVERY AT BAT.

(and that naturalmegaschlong looks pretty good too).

That was the funniest comment I’ve ever read on any thread. Kudos Derek Hoban.

  36. Joesky the Met brawler Says:

I AM AFRAID THAT THERE IS A LOW LIFE IMITATOR WHO POSTED A COMMENT UNDER MY NAME WHICH MENTIONS PENIS’, MAGIC TRICKS AND OTHER DEBAUCHERY. WHILE MOST OF THE DIATRIBE WHICH WAS WRITTEN WAS FALSE AND JUVENILE, HE WAS RIGHT IN STATING THAT I WILL GET DRUNK… MAYBE EVEN PLASTERED (WEATHER PERMITTING). I AM ALSO HAPPY TO UPDATE THAT I ALREADY HAVE 4 VOLUNTEERS FROM MY VERY SMALL AND LIMITED INNER CIRCLE WHO WILL SHOW UP WITH ME AND SUPPORT OUR CAUSE. HOPEFULLY THIS CAN STIR UP THE RIGHT PEOPLE TO DO THE SAME…. NOW FOR SOME BASEBALL TALK; I SAW A STAT SOMEWHERE WHICH STATED THAT LAST YEAR, OUR OFFENSE WAS 12TH PALCE IN THE LEAGUE. KEEP IN MIND THIS WAS WITH THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF; CHURCH, TATIS AND MURPHY. TWO PLAYERS WHO HAD ABNORMAL YEARS AND A ROOKIE. YOU ALSO HAVE TO ACCOUNT FOR THE RESURGENCE OF DELGADO WHO HAD HIS BEST HALF YEAR AS A MET LATER IN THE YEAR. IF MOST OF YOU REMEMBER WHAT THE FIRST HALF OF THE YEAR WAS LIKE LAST YEAR FOR US, THAT MAY VERY WELL BE WHAT WE HAVE IN STORE FOR NEXT YEAR. MEANWHILE, THE CURE FOR MOST OF OUR OFFENSES ILLS ( A RIGHT HANDED, POWER, CLUTCH BATTER) IS LOOKING FOR A CONTRACT. THE CHOICE IS OBVIOUS. ALSO OUR TEAM HAS AN IDENTITY CRISIS AS FAR AS NOT KNOWING IF ITS A CLEAN CUT WILLE RANDOLPH TYPE TEAM(WHICH GETS OLD QUICK ESPECIALLY IF YOUR LOSING) OUR A LIGHT HEARTED TEAM WHICH WOULD BE THE THE REMEDY TO LAMES ACROSS TOWN. MANNY WILL TAKE US THERE. CLASS CAN BE OVERRATED SOMETIMES AND QUITE FRANKLY BORING WHEN YOU SHARE A TOWN WITH YANKEES. WE HAVE AN OPPURTINITY TO BE THE KINGS OF THE HEARTS OF NEW YORK EVEN AFTER ALL OF THE YANKEE SPENDING THIS OFFSEASON. WHAT ARE THE WILPONS WAITING FOR????? IF THE ANSWER TO MY LAST QUESTION IS FOR A BUNCH OF FANS TO PUT OUT THE WILPONS DIRTY LAUNDRY OUTSIDE OF THE SNY STUDIOS ON THURSDAY DURING THE TAPING OF “METS COLD STOVE” THEN COUNT ME IN…. AND OH YES, I WILL BE HAMMERED TO THE POINT WHERE I MIGHT TAKE OFF MY SHIRT. WHOS WITH ME?? THE REAL JOESKY THE BROOKLYN BRAWLER.

  37. Big Tony Says:

Hope both Manny and JJ go away…..

  38. The Lip Says:

Don’t you love getting linked to on the Mets Blog?

  39. Alex Cora Fan Says:

The Mets Blog link has nothing on “the guy in the Ramirez jersey” entourage that invaded here! Think about it. “Hey guys check it out! This dude thinks I was paid by Boras!” hahahaha Speaking of Boras… Does Natural Mega Schlong have an 800 number I could call? Does anyone know if they are hiring? Casey Fossum AL Cy Young! You heard it here first from Cora Fan! JOESKY IS A BIG DRINKER!

  40. Joesky the Met brawler Says:

HOLEE DIPCUP THERES IS SOME SERIOUS BS GOING ON AROUND HERE!! WHO KEEPS POSTING UNDER MY NAME? YOU KNOW WHY IM CALLED THE BRAWLER? BECAUSE I WILL TAKE A IMPOSER AND PUNCH YOU SO HARD YOUR WILL CRAP UNCONTROLABLY INTO YOUR LEATHER CROCHLESS PANTS!!! I MAY BE DRUNK AS HELL BUT I WOULD NEVER BE DUMB ENOUGH TO WANT MANNY PUNKMIREZ ANYWHERE NERE MY BELOVED METS, BROTHER! ALL IT TAKE IS ONE BEAT RITER TO START RIDING HIM AND WE DONT GET MVP MANNY, WE GET CRYBABY DROOPYDRAWERS MANNY THAT DONT SWING AT PITCHES AND FALLS DOWN TRYING TO CATCH THE BALL AND GROEWS HIS HAIR TO LONG. LIKE I SAID BEFORE ALL OVER THE PLACE, WE NEED SWEET PETE MARTINEZ BACK AT THE TOP OF THE RO, THROWING STRIKES OVER THE PLATE AND 90 YEAR OLD BENCH COACHES ON THERE ASS!! SEE YOU ALL OUT AT SNY WITH SOME BREWS!!!!!!!!!!

  41. Pete Falcone Says:

When I played we didn’t have these sissy blogs. You all sound like a bunch of fags. Especially you Klifford.

  42. WWMD Says:

There’s no need for name calling. Manny would take us over the top. Are you serious Pete? Do you want to go into 2009 with Ryan Church and Dan Murphy manning the corner spots? I know I don’t. Spend our f’ing money and get me some talent.
