Izzit Possible Mets Get Lowe AND Perez?
Don’t look now folks but suddenly this is looking like it might be a very real hypothetical.
According to Ken Rosenthal, on SNY’s Hot Stove Report, ATL isn’t willing to going above 3/36 for Lowe.
BMF had predicted that all along so I wasn’t surprised but I kinda got the chills when I spotted this on MetsBlog, ”By the way, Rosenthal says, at this point, he is unable to find a GM who is interested in Perez, outside of Omar Minaya”
WHAT?!?!?!
I always figured Boras would open the bidding for Perez after Lowe but it never even occurred to me there might be ZERO market for the wild yet potentially nasty lefty!!!
Holy Crap! So if Perez is suddenly there for the taking that could mean a rotation of:
Santana
Lowe
Maine
Pelfrey
Perez
But before we start celebrating that staff we’ve gotta consider what Boras would actually do if faced with no market for Perez?
Ollie made 6.8M last year so would the super agent let the kid sign a 3yr/30M deal with us? Could we get him at 3/24M? And at what point do other teams start jumping in on the bidding?
Or would Boras gamble with a 1-year deal in an effort to get a multi-year contract next winter w/o a recession discount???
There are obviously ton of variables here but I’m just sayin’ all of a sudden a return by Perez is making a lot of sense…

Mojo Kitty rocks the batting helmet for luck!

No way the kid is signing for anything less than 4 years. He’s too young for that. If lowe is looking for 3 with an optional 4th then Opie has to get at least 4 with an optional 5. I mean, isn’t Opie like 6 years younger than Lowe?
BTW, they’re really dragging this out aren’t they. Lowe’s name is on the ESPN ticker daily now. Very annoying.

After a lot of b-tching, THIS would be a scenario that I could find platable! It never occured to me that no one would wnat Ollie - he’s cheap. The Mets really ought to sign him. He’s been good for us. He’s pitched in big games. He’s a lefty. It sends our young players a nice message that the team is behind them and willing ot step up to the plate and sign them when it becomes time fo rhtem to be free agents.
A two-fer is perfectt for all involved. If it is true that Bora is having trouble unloading goods, he’ll look like a hero by unloading both at once. I’m surprised that a snale like Boras would not wnat to sell Lowe first and then talk about Ollie. anyway, let’s hope folks. Let’s really hope. If the rotation B

I hear ya Sam - I guess if Boras can’t get the money and years he wants he’s going to extract his pound of flesh by having his and his clients names floating around to annoy the hell out of everyone.

I like the potential rotation you posted, but personally, I believe a healthy John Maine is a better pitcher than the other guys. Therefore, Maine gets my vote for #2 spot.

maybe atlanta may go for lowe..now that smoltz jumped ship

Yeah, BMF might have jinxed us…AGAIN!!!

I think the optimal rotation would be:
Johan/Lowe/Ollie/Pelfrey/Maine
why? Because in this set up, you never get the same look twice in a row. The lefties are split up, the sinkerballers are split up, and the flyball pitchers are split up.
Plus, before I’d consider moving Maine to the #2 spot, he needs to prove that he can miss bats. What we saw last year was the hitters ability to foul off pitch after pitch from Johnny, who couldn’t put the batter away, resulting in a high pitch count and an early exit. If he can get that curveball back into his arsenal, and improve the change, then we can talk about moving him up.

ravi : pelfrey in the 4th whole ?.. he clearly proved himself last year that he is NOT a #4 starter..

ha ha I’ve been saying from the start we could and might get both. If we can get Lip to stop bitching for even a day I think its a deal we have to make.
I like Ollie over Lowe, younger, more potential, more upside.
Good point Ravi about breaking up the rotation to mix up styles. I also like to have a strong back end, its not the post-season—for the first 100+ games it would be nice to not give away every 4th and 5th game. Takes pressure off of Johan not to always have to clean up the previous guy’s mess from the day before.

call me crazy..but..for some reason..i think ATL may get Lowe..

If O can pull this off, he deserves a box of cookies from Lip. Santana/Lowe are obvious 1 and 2, but after that it’s kind of a tossup. If these things really mattered, you’d have to give the 3 spot to Maine simply by seniority, but I like Ravi’s logic in splitting up the styles.
Oh and Dave, *you’re* not crazy, the Braves are for letting Smoltz go. Pressure is definitely on them to make a move. http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/braves/stories/2009/01/08/john_smoltz_chipper_jones.html Poor Larry isn’t going to have any friends left on the team boohoo.

You said it, Dude. Half of my dialoguu was eaten by the comment monster. I fell that IF Minaya cna land both of these guys, it will be his best off season yet, becasue it will make Putz and Krod be everyday guys. Johan and Maine and pray for your f–kin lives becasue it ain;t getitng any better with Pelf, Lowe and Ollie. Easily the best rotation int he bigs. In order for Krod to be effective, the Mets need more pitching. This would be huge. If the Mets cna only have 1, I too would take OIllie over Lowe. My instinct tells me that Boras will want to sew up Lowe before Ollie, but who knows. Haivng the 2 of them would take the pressure off of the need to have a world class bat, but it would still be nice. Liek I say, The Lip will give Omar minaya huge praise if this comes together.

Lip, are you sure you still won’t bash O because all he did was spend the owner’s money and there’s no farm system and Beltran sucks and there’s no 2B and no LF and the tickets prices are too high and the logo’s suck and the grass isn’t green enough and the seat backs in Citi field are uncomfortable and…..

Now, now, let’s be nice to Lippy when he’s in a good mood. Think he got some last night. You go Boy!!!

You may have all seen this… I present to you Tim Redding. That might put the kabosh on the whole Ollie and Lowe thing. It’s not a minor league contract so I think you can pencil him in at 5.

Hey don’t knock the ladies privates! Since presumably most of you have spent endless energy, money and creativity in their pursuit.
How about, LipLovesLosing 08?

Citi Field is a hitters park. We have a stud infield. Sigining Lowe, the vetern, world series experience, sinker pitcher seems like the more logical choice.
Why gamble four years with Ollie?I’m in favor of him signing a one year deal, that way he has incentive to stay consistent all season long. We have to resign Pelfry (Boras client) anyway in a few years and that will cost alot of money and years.
But signing both perez and lowe, it’s hard not to smile at what the rotation would look like…

Hi everyone…35 DAYS TO PITCHER AND CATCHERS REPORT… IS WOLF STILL IN THE METS PLANS TOO…ALSO ARE WE WEARING THE ORANGE AND BLUE …NO MORE BLACK…IF ANYONE KNOWS OUR TEAM COLORS LET US KNOW…GREAT SITE THANKS B..

bad, bad, bad feeling that Ollie will be passed over, Lowe will be signed, and so will Pedro. Even worse feeling that both will spend time on the DL.
