Familia Arrives

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

So that’s Jeurys Familia.

If you’re a big time Met fans there are always a few names you’ve been hearing about as they develop on the farm. These prospects are often nothing more than faceless players whose names ring bells but they generally remain sight unseen.

Thats changing now with all spring games broadcast and some minors games on SNY but I remember hearing for years how “Strawberry was ripening on the farm”

Now almost 30 years later Familia is making  his Major League debut. Jeurys introduced himself a scoreless eighth inning and a 97 mph fastball.

I’m rarely a fan of moving these starters into bullpen roles. Sometimes it’s necessary and sometimes for the best but generally speaking I want my flame throwing prospects to remain in the rotation when the make the show.

I don’t mind a few relief innings to get their feet wet in September I just hope the Mets keep he’s eloping him as a starter.

Imagine a staff of Johan, Dickey, Niese, Harvey, Familia, Mejia … Or Pelfrey.

I could live with some combination of that in 2013.

Are the Yankees Choking?

Tuesday, September 4th, 2012

I haven’t wanted to even mention it because I don’t want to jinx the choke, but the Yankees are looking like they’re in serious trouble.

Now just 1 game ahead of Baltimore (!) the Yankees are in danger of slipping out of first after they built a 10 game lead.

And if the O’s edge them out in the East there’s no guarantee they qualify for a Wild Card either. The newly added second WC team may help them squeak in the postseason but that’s a 1 game playoff and they may not even finish top 2 in the WC.

Man how sweet would it be to watch the yanks and their fans crash and burn over the next 4 weeks.

I know I’m a petty Met fan but that sure would make me feel better after the season we’ve had.

Gotta Hand it to TC’s Team

Sunday, September 2nd, 2012

This is exactly why you shouldn’t even consider firing Terry Collins. The Mets fought tooth and nail to plate 4 runs in the 9th and beat the Fish.

Josh Johnson was unsolveable for 8 frames but once he was out of the game the Mets got off the mat and grabbed the W.

It may be football season and very few actually care who wins this NY v MIA game in september but the Metsies sure did prove they’re still hungry and not giving an inch on the field.

Such a strange sight to see the Marlins playing out their epic fail of a season. I expected the Mets to be mediocre but the Marlins were in WS discussions back in March.

He’s got a shot. Prob gonna have 4 more starts maybe 5 so it’s definitely within reach.

And I got news for ya’ - if RA wins 20 he just may take home the Cy Young also.
