Reyes is back in town

Game thread…

Should He Bay or Should he Go?

Monday, August 6th, 2012

Sunday was supposed to be the end of Jason Bay’s opportunity to prove he can still be productive offensively. He failed to prove anything encouraging.

TC and the brain trust are going to have some discussions that probably break along these lines:

Collins wants to bench Bay. Even Torres gives the Mets a better chance to win.

Alderson hoped some productivity could create a trading partner who would take at least a few bucks on his contract but that’s not happening. I imagine as far as Sandy is concerned Bay isn’t his contract and he would gladly cut him and eat the money.

But I’m guessing ownership and the accounting dept is still holding out hope there is some value left in Bay’s bat.

Unfortunately there’s not. The concussions have taken care of that so it’s time for a change.  I don’t want torres out there either I’d rather see DenDekker or another young bat get some experience.

Sorry Bay, ya gotta go.

Thole is officially in a defensive slump. For the second time this series he failed to record the out on a play at the plate. This time he was positioned improperly when the relay came from the grass behind first base.

Josh was on the 1st base side of home plate in FRONT of the dish, so when he caught it he had to stretch all the way back and was late with the tag. Had he been straddling the plate the ball would have been there in time to cut down the runner.

Harvey got banged around allowing 5 runs in 5 IP but BMF is fine with that. We still won the road trip and Harvey is so green it’s good experience for him to face some adversity.

Hefner! … ?

Sunday, August 5th, 2012

Check out Jeremy Hefner who tossed another solid game for the Mets.  Talk about an unheralded guy making it to the bigs and making an impact - that’s Hefner for ya’.

Looks like Johan will be back on Sat so this is prob the kid’s last start for awhile but hat to to Hef for holding it down when we needed him to.

Valdespin got the big hit to drive in 2 during a 4 run second. Jordany has cooled since he began starting so hopefully this will get him going again.

Daniel Murphy was 4-4. Man, if this guy could ever start generating some power numbers he’d be an all-star b/c he sure can hit.

Bravo to Mike Baxter for setting a Met record walking FIVE times in one game. I have no idea how that happened to a guy like Baxter who absolutely no one is pitching around.

Happy to see Bax get his name in the Met record books but he’ll always be the guy who Disabled himself saving Johan’s No-No.

I’ve never seen a guy get his donut stuck on his bat twice in a career let alone 2x in one game as befell Reuben Tejada last nite.

Relieved to see FrankFranc back recording saves again.

Hey don’t look now but we just won a road trip.

Love Those Unis!

Saturday, August 4th, 2012

What a tremendous look at the good ol days those 80’s uniform gave us last nite. Those were the unis BMF grew up watching and they’ll always have a special place in my heart.

The bad boys era of Met uniforms. I half expected to see Mex, Doc and Darryl trot out there.

The Padres throwbacks were awful. I remember when they  changed to those and I hated them then. The font was so cheesy they never looked like genuine Big League unis.

Tough loss. RA deserved to win but it’s great to see him back on his All-Star track.

The big play was the collision at home between Quentin and Thole. It was a clean play by Quentin who is allowed to put a hit on the catcher.

Thole could’ve done a better job. I realize it’s bang-bang but the young backstop didn’t get his barehand around the ball to secure it. I thought he had enough time to grip it but he was wearing the larger mitt to help catch the knuckler.

Tough play though.

Btw Loved seeing Dickey scamper after  errant ball and slide to arrive recover it asap. The guy is a GAMER.

Mets are Back! … ?

Friday, August 3rd, 2012

As soon as I fully give up on our boys they suddenly, unexpectedly put together back to back wins in Frisco.

Chris Young was back on his game, once again the pitcher BMF expects to see out there. Dominant across 7.

Y’know maybe I’m wrong. Maybe the Mets have a run to respectability left in ‘em… Maybe.

Prob the most insane stat from yesterdays game was Jason Bay going 1-4 with 2 RBI. Those ribbies pushed his season total into the rarefied air of double digits!

Yup, Bay now has 10 Runs Batted In.

I feel bad for the guy but it’s crazy that he was sitting on 8 rbi into AUGUST.

I guess inside word is Bay won’t be back even if they have to eat the contract.

It’ll be interesting to see what Met fan’s attitudes are toward Bay the rest of the summer. I, for one, hope it doesn’t get ugly.

Mets Win - Bay Still Lost

Thursday, August 2nd, 2012

Great to see Niese step up and deliver a game winning performance allowing 1R in 7IP. The kid has been a forgotten arm the last few weeks and he deserved this W.

Of course the O did as little as possible to help him out as they refrused to maximize the number of runners on base.

Jason Bay had anither game w/o an inpact hit and ya’ gotta wonder if he’ll ever make an impact again.

The thing about Bay is he’s now desling with concussions. He’s had 2 ( by my count ) as a Met and I think that’s as good of an explaination as any for Bay’s ineffectiveness.

The art of hitting in the Major Leagues is such an art that just the slightest shortcoming by a batter can mean being over matched in the box.

Bay’s had 2 head injuries.

He’s now no longer able to hit.

It ain’t hard to draw the conclusion that Concussions may well have effected Bay and rendered him incapable of hitting.

I’m just sayin…
