Met O Missed Flight

Sunday, June 17th, 2012

I don’t know what happened to all that O in Tampa but it obviously missed the flight back to NY.

For the second straight day vs the Reds the Mets offense was flat. And now we’re in danger of getting swept… on Father’s Day.

Hats Off to J Bay

Saturday, June 16th, 2012

Talk about a guy with crappy luck. Man, Jason bay can’t catch a break. Fri nite saw another run in with the LF wall only this time he went top of head first and looked like he suffered a compression injury.

Word is it’s likely a concussion which as we all know is a minimum of a 1 week DL stint ( new for head injuries)  and more likely 15 days or longer.

At this point I just feel bad for Bay. Everything you hear is he’s a great guy, a hard worker and he genuinely cares about living up to expectations.

Unfortunately I think the Mets are better off without him. Of course we’d be better with the Boston Bay, or the Pittsburgh Bay, but the NY Bay simply cannot produce on the field.

I’d rather Hairston out there.

Still, say what you want about him but the guy plays hard when he’s out there. There’s no half assing it.

Sorta felt a loss coming. Returning home to face Cincy reeked of let down and sure enough it was.

But how about Nieuwenhuis with his 3rd bomb in 2 games. The guy continues to amaze.

9-9-9

Friday, June 15th, 2012

Forget Bill Mahr the Mets have gone Herman Cain 9-9-9 crazy scoring 9 or more runs in the last 3 games.

Possibly more shocking than a Herman Cain reference on BMF is the fact we just swept the Rays… IN TAMPA!!!

Where were all these runs and wins in the BX? As flat and overmatched as we looked against the yankees we were that good against the Rays.

The jury is still out on Santana who is yet to look dominant after the no-no. Johan struggled through 5 frames allowing 4R, 6H, 4BB, and 6K.

I think much of the world assumes everything with Johan is fine but I promise you TC is still yet to exhale as he waits for Johan to prove there are no long term effects.

Nieuwenhuis cracked a lead-off HR and a 2 run shot later  in the game as well. Everytime you think the kids magic carpet ran out of gas he re-establishes himself as most pleasant surprise in Queens.

TRIVIA TIME: What once highly touted Met hit a HR which might, just might, turn his season around??? No, not Ike Davis even crazier… yup JASON BAY!

Maybe its that AL East buzz that gets him going, although that never works vs the yankees, but I have a hard time believing Bay is ready or capable of a consistent offensive attack.

Dickey Best in Baseball

Thursday, June 14th, 2012

After last nite’s “shoulda been another no hitter” performance from RA Dickey I don’t think you can deny him the title of Best Pitcher in Baseball at the moment.

First off this crazy knuckler just set the franchise record for consecutive scoreless innings at 32.2. WOW RA Dickey ranks above Seaver and Gooden in the record books?!?

RA had no hit stuff and, BMF believes he did in fact toss a no-no but a home field ruling by the official scorer in Tampa gave their guy a hit instead of charging an error to Wright.

It was early in the game so no one thought much of it at the time but it now looms as an epic ruling since it would’ve given the Mets their second career No-Hitter inside of 2 weeks. How freakin’ crazy would that have been!

Personally I thought since he went for it with his bare hand and muffed it it should be an error. I admit its a questionable call one way or the other. My guess is that exact play gets called very differently depending on what stage of a no-hitter it occurs in.

Mets ERUPT in Tampa

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

Wow - didn’t see that coming. A good old fashioned 11-2 romp. Man, those games are fun!

The crazy thing is Tampa was ALL OVER Chris Young in the first and it looked like the Rays were about to blow US out.

Young hung in there to get the W but while he wasn’t dominant if you throw out the 1st inning he pitched great.

I like Ike’s strategy of dropping down a bunt to lead off the second. It worked since he not only got on base but later smoked a laser of a HR to right. Could this finally be the awakening we’ve all been waiting for?

Jordany Valdespin was 2-5 with 4 RBI and 2 Runs scored. He’s still only hitting .184 but I really like this kid.

Can someone please tell me why on earth ReoSpeedwagon is performing at CityField?

That’s the sort of post-game promotion you see at a Minor League park, or maybe Pittsburgh or Cleveland but not NYC. Are the Mets really so hard up to sell tickets they need to book Reo Speedwagon?

And the bigger question is will REO Speedwagon actually sell any tickets at all.
