Dog Day Afternoon Game thread…

As much as BMF didn’t want to lose fri nite I will tip my cap and applaud Pagan for a triumphant return. In fact his solo shot made all the difference in the 4-3 loss.
I always was, and still am, a big Pagan fan. So long as he’s healthy he can be an incredibly valuable player. I guess the Mets quit on him after last season, can’t blame ‘em after a major regression.
Great play by Nickeas to catch short hop from Wright and tag out Melky Caberra. Mex was right Cabrera should be been running inside the baseline to legally interfere with throw - if he’d done that he would’ve been safe
If Kirk continues balls to the wall play I don’t think you can sit him down in 2 weeks when Torres “returns” - to a team he is yet to really play for. I like Nieuwenhuis’ energy on this team. You can’t send him down if he’s playing well.
There’s an old Tommy Lasorda addage, that he probably learned from someone before him, that sez:
In baseball you’re going to lose 50 games no matter what you do and you’re gonna win 50 games no matter what you do. It’s the 62 remaining games that determines your season.
Wednesday’s afternoon tilt with the Braves fell into the category of games we’re destined to lose no matter lwhat.
Dickey’s knuckler actually looked great until the rain came and then it was duck for cover as we got routed 14-6. I guess knuckle balls don’t respond well to rain.
To their credit the Mets kept battling back inning after inning until the game was finally out of reach. These guys aren’t afraid to get in the box and take their cuts. I feel like some teams in recent years were so tight in the batter’s box they couldn’t just relax and play ball. The 2012 Mets are doing exactly that.
Too bad we dropped the last 2 games to even out the road trip at 3-3, but so long as you play .500 ball on road you can put together a solid season.
After back to back losses I’m happy for a day off before we face the Giants this weekend in Queens.
Good News: we’ll miss facing Matt Cain - Not so Bad News: We’ll face Tim Lincecum who has been AWFUL so far this season on Sun. The Freak is 0-2 with a 10.54 ERA
Not sure how much of this game is going to be played due to a steady rain in the ATL….
Holy Crap that was an awful outing for Johan: 6R, 5ER, 4H, 1BB in 1.1 IP in what would amount to the shortest outing of his career.
Shoddy defense from Bay and Ike certainly didn’t help Johan but something wasn’t right. Judging from his previous starts this year he’s healthy and has still got “it” so maybe the extra day of rest the Mets are carving out for him adversely affected him?
I wouldn’t think it would put him that far off his game but if you’re a big routine guy something like an extra day just might knock you off kilter.
If someone has find the “get back ON kilter” button please press it for Duda and Ike Davis with their miserable batting avgs .171 and .125 respectively.
They’ve got a couple HR’s which have distracted us a little but c’mon these guys aren’t even close to the Mendoza line.
