Shouldn’t Lose on 9-11
Monday, September 12th, 2011It never feels right to lose at home but Sunday’s L on the 10th anniversary of September 11th felt extra wrong.
While I think it’s borderline disrespectful to say, it’s now 10 years out from 9/11 and I’m speaking ONLY in terms of NYC baseball rivalries:
I find myself every year appreciating the fact that we the Mets are the team associated with 9/11 here. The Yankees were out of town when it happened so they were unable to get home in short order.
The Mets and Bobby V were here & participating in recovery by using Shea as a staging ground and even going to ground zero.
The first baseball game back was be the Braves and has now gone down in the annals of history as one of the most epic sports contests ever played.
No matter what they’ve done and will do the wretched yankees will never touch this incredible bond the Mets have to NYC.
I’m just sayin’.
