Shouldn’t Lose on 9-11

Monday, September 12th, 2011

It never feels right to lose at home but Sunday’s L on the 10th anniversary of September 11th felt extra wrong.

While I think it’s borderline disrespectful to say, it’s now 10 years out from 9/11 and I’m speaking ONLY in terms of NYC baseball rivalries:

I find myself every year appreciating the fact that we the Mets are the team associated with 9/11 here.  The Yankees were out of town when it happened so they were unable to get home in short order.

The Mets and Bobby V were here & participating in recovery by using Shea as a staging ground and even going to ground zero.

The first baseball game back was be the Braves and has now gone down in the annals of history as one of the most epic sports contests ever played.

No matter what they’ve done and will do the wretched yankees will never touch this incredible bond the Mets have to NYC.

I’m just sayin’.

Parnell Worrisome

Sunday, September 11th, 2011

Y’know I think we’re getting past the point of rookie inconsistency and learning experiences with Parnell. Because these poor outings are becoming the norm.

There’s still a very strong possibility he rebound next year and grows into a closer but we certainly won’t be removing any question marks before season’s end.

Reyes watch:

Jose 1-5 batting .333
Braun 2-5 batting .331

Is Jason Bay about to finish the season hitting over .250? At this point thats a BIG accomplishment.

Not sure how many of you are still watching the Mets game but BMF is proud to say PIX 11 is running a promo for my show “City Gridiron”. Catch it every Sunday at 11A on PIX 11. - except today we air at 1:30pm due to 9/11 coverage

Get a Load of Justin Turner

Saturday, September 10th, 2011

The kids started out blazing hot when he first came up. He carried the team for weeks and could do no wrong for shockingly long.

Of course eventually he came back to earth and settled into a reasonable option but not a guy who was knocking others out of the lineup.

Then all of a sudden he has a big night like fri’s going 3-5 with a run and 2 RBI - one of them being the 9th inning walk off.

I’ve almost begun to sleep of Turner a bit lately but he’s still got the ability to plate runs. He gets big hits in big spots and that’s a special thing in NYC.

I don’t know if he’s gonna be the starting second baseman next year but if he is I’ll take it and not look back.

Swept by the Braves? Who Cares???

Friday, September 9th, 2011

I honestly could give a rat’s filthy ass about dropping 2 to ATL. Yes I want to avoid entering another Black hole as the season winds down but I’m certainly not getting twisted out of shape over it.

The big news is Reyes’ batting crown lead is beginning to grow Jose picked up a pinch hit in game 1 and went 1-4 in game 2 to push his avg to .335.

Meanwhile Ryan Braun wore an 0-4 collar and slipped to .329

So all of a sudden Jose has a 6 point lead.

A six point lead with less than 3 weeks (19 games) to immortality.

Personally I think he’s gonna do it…
