Shhhhh Jason Bay is Sleeping… Again

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

Remember a few weeks back when it looked like Bay was actually beginning to resemble a player who might be able to regain something close to his once feared self. Well that’s no longer the case.

I hate to stir this up again, because I’m sick of hearing, talking and thinking about how crappy Jason Bay is but the guy is in a 2-45 stretch.

Back to Awful.

Bay’s batting average now stands at .229 for the year.

What a friggin’ catastrophe this dude has turned into.

Pelfrey wasn’t bad last - much better then his numbers indicate.

Pelf has a VERY big Sept coming up so I’d love to see him finish some of these good starts.

At Least We’re Better than Florida

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

It’s easy to look up in the standings and gripe about being 21 games behind Philly, or 15.5 games back of Atlanta but we deserve to look below and celebrate being ahead of Washington and Florida.

Yesterday’s double header sweep put us 5.5 games ahead of the Fish which is a big enough margin to make BMF “fairly comfortable” we’re not gonna finish in last place… I hope.

Florida sucks and the truth is I’d rather be U’s heading into next year than them.

Dickey was SICKK with 7 shutout innings in game 1 and Gee was fantastic allowing 1 run in 6 frames in game 2.

For some reason I find it hard to get excited about either pitcher but they keep giving us great games again and again.

I’m really beginning to like Reuben Tejada. The fact that he’s producing offensively with a .282 avg at this stage is VERY encouraging for his future in the Bigs. I’d love to see this kid man second next year and beyond.

Speaking of potential second basemen Daniel Murphy was lost to another injury. Tough break for the kid… Or should I say “tough tear for the kid” who tore his MCL to end his season.

Murph is really difficult to figure out what to do with. He’s not good defensively… anywhere, can definitely hit, but very limited power. Plus now you have to throw in 2 consecutive years ending with knee injuries.

The thing about Murphy is he seems to always be easily overlooked only to grind it out and prove his worth again and again.

I hate to say it but if the Mets are fielding a playoff caliber team Murphy ain’t getting any regular PT.

Back to Baseball

Monday, August 29th, 2011

Turns out they coulda played Sunday afternoon afterall when Irene sorta peetered out before she hit NY. Of course there was still no mass transit but weather-wise Sun turned out to be a very nice day.

Now we’ve got 5 games in 4 days vs the Fish, time to get this team back on track. I’m not expecting an 18-3 run or anything crazy but we need to start winning games and series again for the sanity if the fanbase.

Not to mention EVERYONE, players, fans, front office and ownership could use some good vibes heading into winter.

… Or at least not negative vibes and so long as we don’t collapse from here till the end I believe we’re incubating some good vibes.
