Looking Forward to Moving Beltran

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

Don’t get me wrong - I’m a big Carlos Beltran fan. In fact I own a Beltran jersey.

But the inevitable is approaching and since I know he’s going I’m excited at the idea of adding a quality young Alderson acquired prospect. As good as LosB has been he’s on the backside of his career.

Beltran is also a giant link to Minaya and BMF is all for cutting most ties to that era.

But a strapping young Philly, Frisco, or Texas prospect will be someone new to root for and I can’t wait for the kid(s) to get here.

Niese should cross off one of those bullpen blown W’s off his karma list since he got a gift if a win after giving up 5 ER in 5 IP.

David Wright continues to rake ever since his recent DL induced maturation process. It’ll be interesting to see how he responds once Beltran is gone.

I really gotta tip my hat to Daniel Murphy. The kid can flat out hit. He’s proved this yet again in 2011 but the crazy part is he’ll almost certainly enter 2012 without a lock on a position.

Tough match-up in Cincy tonite

Game thread…

No K-Rod No Problemo

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

Izzy did it again. And not only that but Parnell rebounded to post an uneventful 8th.

But the big news is Beltran is still a Met. If you’re tracking the situation the Phils look as though they’re starting to fade from contention.

Apparently the Giants and Rangers have pulled ahead of the Braves as well. Sounds good to me if we can get him out of the division all the better.

BMF will listen to the reports of who’s closer and further from making a deal but I can’t put much stock in any of these digital rumors.

It’ll be interesting to see how Alderson plays this negotiation. Smart money sez Beltran’s value will rise the closer we get to the deadline especially since he’s far and away the best available bat.

I realize both the Phils and Braves could benefit from his bat but you have to imagine neither would be a quick to give us a top prospect who might beat them for years to come.

BoPa Stumbles

Monday, July 25th, 2011

In a perfect world Bobby Parnell would seamlessly step into the closer role and we wouldn’t look back for years to come.

Izzy has gotten the first nod at closing but you have to assume Collins and Alderson are grooming BoPa for the role.

There’s no real rush to get Parnell slamming the door but it sure would make a more comfortable winter if he shows us he can close games this year.

Unfortunately Parnell blew the lead in the 8th in a game that we shoulda won.

The funny thing is is Parnell is a real closer he may perform better in the 9th than the 8th. The catch-22 is he may not get a shot at the 9th is he can’t hold the 8th.

Meanwhile David Wright has erupted morphing back into the homegrown star we all loved and believed in.

BMF feared a lingering back issue but judging by the last series the back is just fine.

In fact I stand by the theory that Wright being forced to observe for weeks on end may have matured him in a way he was yet to evolve. Maybe sitting and watching a NY Met season from the sidelines helped him put the circus in perspective. In turn he may put less pressure on himself by taking all the NY media hyperbole in stride.

If we get the old Wright back and Reyes is resigned we’ve got a damn good jump on being competitive in 2012.

Duda Goes Deep!

Sunday, July 24th, 2011

Capuano looked to be in total control until that 4 run frame which basically cost us the game but the good news is Lucas Duda FINALLY put one over the wall.

I know AB’s are getting tighter so big hits can go a long way towards keeping him in the mix. Of course when Beltran goes we’ve got another spot…

Hey my attitude this season hasn’t changed - I’m looking for the good which we can build on for 2012.

And the power hitting Duda’s first bomb of the year just might break the dam and get him going deep like he’s capable of.

Another Met Win

Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

I’m sorta taking this weekend off from the site but can’t resist a couple thoughts:

Wright is back and Hitting! Great to see maybe the layoff really did refocus him

Definitely frustrated with Pelf during the game but he did get the win.

Duda continues to grow in the bigs. Yes he cost a run when he lollipoped a ball from left but I’m most concerned about his offense. 2 more hits…
