Dare I even utter the word?
Dare I even utter the word?
The lowly Mets are officially SURGING but BMF can’t quite wrap my brain around it.
How are they doing it? They somehow have gotten better after Wright and Ike hit the DL. That coupled with Bay’s “invisaBat” and these crazy Mets are winning without 3 of their top 5 offensive weapons.
Of course the obvious answer is the lights out starting pitching we’ve been getting but the Mets I’m used to never let that stand in the way of losing.
Another huge reason for this .500 Mets team that just won a series in ATL(!!!) is the return of Pagan. This guy is magically back to exactly the game changing player he was last year.
But WTF happened when he didn’t slide on an easily stolen base?!? He said he thought it was fouled off which doesn’t make sense to me. I’ve been watching baseball for more than 30 years and I can’t recall ever seeing a runner tagged out while not sliding because he thought it was fouled off.
This coupled with Pagan not retouching second base while scampering back to 1st is giving me flashbacks to 2009.
I almost don’t even want to say it but Bay had 2 hits and is actually showing us there might be some life in his bat. Not holding my breath but…
Too bad for Gee the rains came because he was headed for win number 8.
Now that we’ve drawn back to even Thurs becomes the most important game of the season. We don’t want to immed fall back under .500 we need to build on this immediately.
A win tonite puts us back at .500 and gives us a series win in the A-T-L
Guess who just leapt into 3rd place? The almost .500 NY Mets.
Thanks to a couple weeks of good old-fashioned “winning baseball” and a 1-9 record by the tanking Fish. Suddenly we’re not that close to last place. OK we’re still just 2 games above the cellar but you get the point.
Last night felt like a Terry Collins win. We went into Atlanta and beat their best pitcher. With back-ups at the corners and a kid on the mound the Mets were unafraid and simply played better baseball to take the W.
Reyes picked up 3 more hits and is now batting .346!!! Crawford money here we come!
Great catch by Pagan out there.
I realize Willie Harris has great numbers against Jurrjens but I still can’t believe Jason Bay is on the bench for this guy.
I hate playing in ATL
You couldn’t ask the Big Pelf to do much more than limiting the Bucs to 2R, 4H, 0BB, 6K in 7IP. Unfortunately a bogus interference call in the 1st, a solo shot by Wood, and poor base running by the Mets cost Pelfrey the win.
First off the interference call on Reyes was an awful call. Jose Tabata advanced from 1st to 3rd on a single only to be gunned down by Pagan. Until the second base ump decided to rule Reyes had interfered with Tabata rounding second and this awarded the Pirate 3rd base.
At first glance it looked as if there may have been interference but Tabata sort of stuttered or hesitated around the bag before deciding to try for 3rd. Once he rounded the bag Reyes did leap out of the way to make sure he wasn’t interfering but the call was made regardless.
Replays showed Tabata was unaffected by anything Reyes did which was further proved when Tabata got up and walked back to the dugout w/o a complaint.
Tabata eventually scored a run that should never have counted. But much credit to Pelfrey for not losing focus there and letting a big inning erupt.
I was impressed with Pelf all the way around last nite.
Duda went from minor hero to minor goat in the 8th when he singled to put runners at 1st and 3rd only to get doubled off when he thought a ball was trapped.
Without that mistake the Mets may very well have taken the lead and game away from Pitt in the 8th.
Back to 2 under and headed into ATL where we KNOW we’re gonna lose at least 2 of 3 like we always do.
