Can’t Knock the Kids

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

There’s a lot you can knock about the Mets: their owners, investment strategies and the seemingly endless line of underperforming big ticket free agents, but the one thing you can’t knock is the kids.

Monday’s 7-3 win over the Bucs was a perfect example.

• Dillon Gee moved to 5-0 firing 7 innings allowing just 3R on 5H with 0BB and 8K. Gee has quietly become a hot young arm in the league with a WHIP of 1.00 over his last 3 starts.

• Josh Thole got the big hit doubling in the 7th to plate 2 and give the Mets the lead for good.

• Reuben Tejada had 3 hits and an RBI

• Justin Turner chipped in 3 more base knocks, and RBI and 2 runs scored

• Not sure if you can call Pagan and Murphy “young players” but each man had 3 hits too

There’s something about a young squad. They play their asses off and hustle like mad. Of course there will always be growing pains with youth but at least we can root for them.

This Mets team seems to have a dynamic it hasn’t had in years young players impacting the game and clubhouse. A youthful exuberance is replacing a bunch of over priced mercenaries.

Slowly but surely Sandy Alderson is remaking this team… Let’s just hope he can retain Reyes.

Mets Win Finale

Sunday, May 29th, 2011

Great to see the Mets salvage a W and/or not blow another lead.

A lotta offense on Sunday including 4 hits from Reyes. 3 hits for Murphy and Thole and 2 for Bay and Justin Turner plus 6.1 shutout innings from Niese are all accomplishments that deserve more press than I’m gonna give tonite but wanted to at least shout em out

Happy Memorial Day Everyone!!!

Big Pelf Stepped Up

Sunday, May 29th, 2011

It was another tough loss given away by middle relief. Pelfrey deserved the W, took the ND, and impressed me with his game.

BMF had sick seats behind home plate so I got an up close look at Pelf’s 6K’s but his best moment came when he kept it together mentally in the 4th.

It was 2 out bases empty before a double and walk prompted a visit to the Mound. Moments after Warthen left Pelfrey dropped the ball balking runners to 2nd and 3rd.

It was a classic moment where he’d get pissed at himself, stomp around, tongue licking in the wind and give up a big hit. But not this time. Pelfrey kept it together and got Domonic Brown to ground to short.

That’s a great sign for the future. As soon an Pelfrey harnesses the mental aspect - LOOK OUT!

Hey man, at this point I’ll take the game within the game victories even if we lose on the scoreboard.

Capuano & Pagan Not Enough

Saturday, May 28th, 2011

Chris Capuano is currently our best pitcher. I don’t think you can argue against that point.

It’s a shame K-Rod blew his game but Francisco isn’t perfect so we gotta cut him some slack.

Super psyched to see Pagan return with 2 hits and a SB. If he gets back to form we’re gonna be a dangerous 1-2 at the top of the lineup.

Justin Turner banged out 4 more hits! Kid is a stud so far.

We definitely missed Ike’s glove in the 9th when Murphy couldn’t handle a ball that gave Philly the lead.

BMF is very very sorry to hear Gary Carter has brain cancer. I’ve been remiss in not mentioning it until now but the tumors are 90% malignant.

I friggin’ LOVED Kid when I was a kid and always will.
