BMF just went into an unexpected, pre-Christmas, 3 day, flu-induced hibernation. Luckily I returned to the world of the living just in time to catch the whole foot fetish news that broke in Jets camp. That is definitely from the dept of “never coulda predicted that one”

It’s such a bizarrely quiet winter for the Mets, at least player wise, but I gotta say it’s sorta refreshing ain’t it?

Not sure I’ll be posting much till the New Year unless something pops so until then, Happy Holidays!

It may be a sign of a very lean winter for the Mets but BMF is definitely intrigued by Rule 5 draftee Brad Emaus.

Second base is certainly an issue this year and it looks as though Alderson and the gang are open to moving on from Castillo.

Tejada is already ticketed for AAA so the gate is wide open for Emaus. 

On paper he looks respectable - a 2nd or 3rd baseman with 15-20 HR potential. But the fact that Ricciardi knows him from the Jays system leads me to believe we may have gotten a steal. 

The intangibles are all there for this Rule 5 player to stick on the 25 man roster: a void at position, at least one suit in the front office championing his cause, versatility to play more than one position, and he’s a patient hitter with good pitch selection.

I love Rule 5 guys. I guess it’s the all or nothing gamble that makes ‘em so alluring to root for. If you’re a Rule 5er you’ve gotta have upside or you would never be selected.

But once the new team has you it’s a high wire act trying to stay with the Big club all year. Fall off the 25 man roster and you’ll prob end up back with the same team that left you unprotected in the first place.

Emaus doesn’t exactly come with the hype of a Beltran, Santana or K-Rod but I’m very excited about the possibility of him blossoming as a Met.

Even though the Cliff Lee free agent season turned up snake eyes for the Mets a Yankee hater like BMF would like to take the time to celebrate what just happened to the Evil Empire.

The top free agent on the market, a player the Yankees targeted all season just passed on them to take less money with another team.

Yes the same player all those obnoxious Yankee fans smugly joked “He’ll be in pinstripes next season” just dissed them.

HAHAHAHA!!

Lee dissed the Yankees, their fans, their money and their bloated rich kid contract offer. Oh it’s so great to see I’m giddy about it. 

This doesn’t happen often but when it does it’s so sweet. A victory for everyone else in sports. 

This just goes to prove that no matter how much money you have you can’t always get everything you want. 

And the best part is those same obnoxious Yankee fans helped drive Lee away by spitting and throwing beer on his wife during the ALCS!!!

BMF’s elation upon hearing Cliff Lee snubbed the Yankees was short lived since the very next bit of news was a deal with the Phriggin Phillies.

That pretty much sews up the division. I mean who is gonna beat a rotation of Halladay, Lee, Hamels & Oswalt? It doesn’t even matter who the 5th starter is, this is hands down the best rotation in the game.

In fact this may be the best rotation in the history of the game. Seriously.

The great Baltimore rotations of the late 60’s - 70’s were before my time but I’d say this Phils staff has the Braves Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine era rotations beat. Who was the Braves number four anyway? Avery?

Gotta hand it to Philly - they layed low and sprung into action to land their man before anyone even knew what was happening. 

I think this may be one of the greatest free agent blindsides in the annals of the game. 

At this point BMF is setting the bar at what should be a fairly attainable mark of 84 wins.

It’s still early and a lot can change between now and opening day but here are a few assumptions I’m making for the sake of a Dec over/under:

• Santana will prob be lost for the season - even if he returns you can’t expect any production

• i’m feeling a respectable season from Beltran - .265 23 94 … and maybe 8 SB - can’t imagine there’s much speed left in those legs 

• Big Pelf will continue to develop and find more consistency - but he may not exceed 15 wins

• Ike will begin to develop into a legit power threat 

• for better or worse i’m guessing K-Rod will be back as closer… I have no idea what to expect from him though 

• Pagan should continue being Pagan, one of the most underrated players in the game

• Reyes and Wright will both be back and are each due for an impressive campaign — especially Jose

• A new administration should refocus the troops and I expect a more patient and fundamentally sound squad
